I really like how you differentiate how they could be best utilized across the various mediums and needs you might have. The black one reminds me of hiragana/kanji pens, especially with how the top lays and how quickly and wet it writes. I think I'm going to pick one up in regards to practicing my Japanese writing.

I think that if you held the pen more parallel to the surface, especially for wider strokes it would work better. You can change the pen angle in mid stroke, too. Making the nib do all the work will wear it out faster.
That black is soooooo flexible like you said. When I tried it I thought I was just too heavy handed but it's good to know I'm not the only one that can't control. I also wish the in the Tombow colored pens were as rich as these.

You gotta try out the Karin Brushmarker Pro they are pretty awesome! You get a ton of colors for a decent price and their shipping was so fast only two days for international shipping i was literally amazed! Oh don't forget to get a pack of the metallics also cause they are beautiful!
I agree, I love mine. I usually prefer a real brush nib as opposed to the flexible felt nib but Karins are gorgeous, I love how you can layer to ombre. The shades are lovely and opaque. Can't say enough good things about them.
There is new mildliner colors out to i know everyone loves those!
They look exactly like the Pilot Fude-makase pens and I really like those!
Yes, I'm so confused. How do we know which one is which. I thought the ones I have are the makase, but now I don't know.
On jetpens website, a blue-black is available. That is the only extra color.
I wonder how good they would be on Tomoe River paper.
Cindy, I wonder if the bold pen is more so designed for Japanese calligraphy (despite this product having handlettering/english instructions). They are Japanese in design after all, but the bold pen really has a traditional Japanese calligraphy vibe to it, even when you write in English.

The big brush pen seems ideal for Chinese characters. The brush is held differently than a pen, and with the particular stroke order, the characters would come out nicely! The smaller pens remind me of the Pentel fude touch
Did you test how these do on watercolor paper at all?
Any idea if these can be opened from the back and refilled?

PSA: Pilot Fude-Makase Color Brush pens and Pilot Ensō Watercolor Brush pens are the same thing. Don't be dumb and buy both like I did. JetPens sells a blue black and that's the only color that isn't in the Ensō pack.
