this one brought tears to my eyes -- i visited ronchamps first when i was 7 years old, and then again just last summer.... i truly love this little building -- that has inspired sculptural architecture for decades.... truly exquisite.... thank you so very much for presenting it in this beautiful way....
I was introduced to Ronchamps when I was seven years old, traveling from Stuttgart to Paris... I was reacquainted two years ago when visiting Reims and Epernay for business, taking a side trip to revisit this magnificent little building... I still have sketches of it from when I was a child -- it never left me, and became the subject of a thesis in undergrad.... Thank you for your usual brilliant presentation!
La maestría y el genio de Le Corbusier no tienen edad; siguen siendo inspiración para los arquitectos contemporáneos. Gracias Franco por regalarnos estas imágenes
franco, i STILL love your architectural presentations!!! simply magnificent!! btw, i was at ronchamps just 3 years ago.... while i was visiting reims/epernay for business... please take care....and carry on - you are a great artist!
Corbusier inspired many architects. Holl, Hadid, etc. George Wu, Architect, AIA, NCARB 2017-10-19 ........and yet he swam far into the deep water in the middle of the day ! ....
The architecture more dominates the function rather than following it. It's an excellent piece of sculpture. As a church, not so excellent. In any church, the altar should be the focal point, with the cross and tabernacle as secondary focal points, but at Notre-Dame du Haut it's the wall of irregular windows that is the focal point and the altar and cross are given minimal attention. The seating is also nonfunctional, hugging the infamous wall of light and not concentric to the altar. Outside it works better, providing a covered and protected patio with an altar, cross and elevated ambo to preach to crowds scattered on the hillside.
d, I think you are more religious than Corbusier himself. Therefore you spoke from your religious point of view as you did. However, I don't believe Corbusier was as religious as you are. As an architect with no religion myself, I love this building. Period. George Wu, ARCHITECT, AIA, NCARB 2017-10-19
