    Japan is always stretched between its traditions and modernism.
    One man spent his life trying to reconcile the two worlds: Tadao Ando. Today I invite you to explore some of his most prominent work in Osaka and its region:
    00:00 - Intro
    00:47 - Row House or Azuma House
    01:03 - Osaka Prefectural Sayamaike Museum
    01:40 - Chaska Chayamachi
    01:51 - Nakanoshima Children's Book Forest
    02:08 - Church of Light, Ibaraki
    02:28 - Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art
    03:07 - 4X4 House, Akashi near Kobe
    03:26 - Yumebutai the World of Ando Tadao, in Awaji
    06:09 - Water Temple, in Awaji
    Former pro boxer, born in Sakai near Osaka Tadao Ando is a self-taught architect. While traveling in Europe he discovered Le Corbusier's work and the beauty of concrete. For Tadao Ando, a house is a shelter to refresh yourself. Like a bridge between a house and a modern temple. With a strong attachment to spirituality; Tadao Ando naturally designed temples or churches. While Osaka is a buzzing city, Tadao Ando offers sober architecture, minimalist. His building, made of raw materials is an invitation to a spiritual retreat in the bustling Osaka. Tadao Ando also explained that Japanese architecture gives a great importance to shadows creating a world of great depth.
    For Tadao Ando, proximity to nature gives more sense to our lives. He recently planted 3000 sakura trees in Nakanoshima next to Nakanoshima Children's Book Forest. You might ask yourself: "What's so special about Tadao Ando?" For him, concrete is alive. The Environment, Light, and Wind make Tadao Ando's raw concrete alive.
    Talking about Osaka: Tadao Ando declared that he's not sure to make its people happy but he's aiming to make the city a bit more beautiful. For a long, Osaka and its people sulked Tadao Ando. Maybe because his pioneer designs were too avant-garde. Now respected all over the world Tadao Ando is the best ambassador of Osaka and its region.

      Working on this video made me realized how productive Ando Tadao has been. It's great to see so much of his work within short distances from Osaka where he was born.

      I was surprised to see how much work he's done around Osaka. My favorite one is the Yumebutai on Awaji Island.

    What happens with 4x4 II, the one which were black? It's the second video where I can't see it.

    • @RediscoverTours
      @RediscoverTours  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question! When I filmed the video this spring, the 4X4 II was already gone! I will try to figure out what happened to it.

    • @RediscoverTours
      @RediscoverTours  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The 4X4 II was built in 2005 and demolished in 2014. Its wooden structure would not have supported the particular design of the house for a long period of time.
      But 4X4 I made of concrete is still in good shape!

      @@RediscoverTours I'm curious about the way that message has been redacted. It's Ando-san itself who it's responding?

    The video is good and interesting, but your sound isn't good, stereo or headphones don't work because it's only possible to hear you on the left speaker.
    Ok, that's an overstatement. It's just annoying to hear someone on only one ear.

    so, whats so special about these uninventive boring concrete-and-glass bunkers? where are the surprises, the joy?
