Simply said definitely helps you hear more of the nuance in style in the thrash metal style of Zakk unreal vibes in contrast with John's laser precise style. Where's the collaboration album already?
@@darkallyrecordings4931 yes it was respectful and honorable but musically unexciting compared to the rest of the improvised performance imo. Clearly, from other’s comments, my opinion is not favored though lol
@@Truebleux I agree. He does the tandem leads a lot with Rudess in DT. It's kind of cool to see him doing it the 1st time with ZW, but we already know JP has the chops to mirror pretty much anyone. It's nice to see JP just let loose and groove.vs trying to be overly precise and technical. I miss the old JP from the 90s when his solos were much more tasty vs the sterile technical shred-fests he does so often now.
I feel so happy seeing this!! My day is complete!! The only part that I was suffering was when the camara guy was just recording JP during Zakk outstanding solo.
...and don't forget one of the best best bass players in the world in Dave LaRue. There is a reason why Petrucci has Dave on every solo gig he does. This was great!
Dave is awesome. Saw him with Satriani on the Super Colossal tour and met him outside after the show. He gave me the set list that was taped to the stage floor and signed it for me right before satch came out and signed my guitar. Had a nice chat with him and he's so down to earth you would never know he was a monster bass player lol.
Music is beautiful man, Metal is love, jamming and making music together, thats real love. Amazing version of the song, and you can see the brotherhood there, just read each others hands and playing the song. Thats what matters now with all the digital work on recordings, this is what its really all about. Metal Forever. \\m// \\m//
THIS is more interaction than I've ever seen Petrucci have from at least a dozen shows that I've seen. Zakk's energy is infectious. If only DT would have this much interplay and excitement on stage... their live shows wouldn't be so monotonous
Yeah I love Dream Theater and Petrucci, his playing is always awesome, but my only knock was always his stage presence…way too clinical. Now I don’t expect him to run around jumping and still be able to execute some technical solos, but show some life out there. It looks like here he was just able to cut loose and have fun for a change.
@@travislee9662 Couldn't agree with you more. I saw them a few weeks ago in Philly, front row, dead center, and left before the end of the show. Jordan Rudess is the only one with any 'stage presence', and LaBrie has zero personality and his voice has become shrill and annoying live. They're all so incredibly gifted as musicians but as far as a live act... not so much
@@1rblackman yeah I hate to be a person that piles on to the LaBrie hate, but yeah he’s always been the weak link of DT and live his voice can get REALLY bad. Rudess; I could watch him doing a keyboard or synthesizer demo and be entertained all day…and I play guitar lol
@@travislee9662 I'm sure they've got a lot of loyalty to LaBrie based on their history, but it's cool to think how they'd sound (and appear onstage) with Russell Allen fronting them. I'm a classically trained pianist and Keith Emerson was my hero, so as much as I wish Petrucci was more dynamic onstage, Rudess never disappoints
Love seeing Petrucci do stuff like this. When he peforms with DT he is almost restricted in his performance in the sense that he is playing particular songs and can’t really improv. When he does stuff like this he can just fucking let loose and it’s completely insane
I agree totally. Let him fly. Forget the limited structure of stupidly complex songs, just make the music that's inside. John has been restricted for way too long. He also looks much happier when playing outside DT. Solo tour was just fantastic. Last time I saw him with DT he looked miserable
that was such a breath a fresh ass air lol!!! JP nailed the sound and goddamm they look like they are having a blast together. lets keep this colab thing going, it just might save music as we know
Damn.... I want to see these two make at leat an EP worth of material together... make JP really change gears for a side project! I mean, I know we all reserve beard comments for ZZ Top, but damn, this is beard-core at its finest!
Imagine that conversation....like, hey John, we have a song that's like 4 chords and about 8 minutes of solos. Think you can handle that? Hmm... I dont know, but I'll do my best.
Two of the most epic beards in metal on the same stage at once?!?! Priceless
And guns, haha

Is Zakk on stage somewhere 365 nights a year? 🤘
One of the best
I swear I say the same thing. I guess he’ll sleep when he passes away, in 50 more years at least! Legendary icon!
Without a doubt !
Gotta take metal to the children 😂
More!
I normally don’t like people recording at shows, but thank god somebody captured this!
If this does not put a smile on your face, nothing will. Just kick ass!!! Love it.
Dude, I literally couldn't stop grinning during the dual solo.
Seeing/hearing JP play Black Label Society - Wow! Never thought I’d experience this. Love it.
And his current playing style matched perfectly with Zakk's
Dang!!! This is so awesome! 🎉🎉

Dude no shit, this was so phucking cool and good!!!!!!
When they ask you "who plays rhythm for you?" and you can say "John Petrucci" you know you've achieved godlike status.
That’s a fact! And vice versa. ❤❤
You do realize John was playing lead basically the whole time right?
@@Gem-Ex 1. It was a joke 2. not a lot of people get JP rythm section for even just a little while
I wish Petrucci did some stuff like this. Love the energy.
You could see he really enjoyed it as well!
It's too 4/4 for him
He has a band called dream theater. They have 20 minute songs with tons of shredding
His solo albums have stuff more riff centric vs how DT is written.
This won't fulfill him musically to simple.
Gotta hand it to Petrucci for putting these Guitar Universe things together. They're great.
Those two sound killer together their tones mesh perfectly together….

THAT SOUNDED SO SICK ON THE DUALING LEAD! I could hear that all day!
The solo in unison actually sounded really badass
That part was so amazing.
that two shredding together takes guitar playing to a whole new level
That was so badass both playing the lead in Unison....chills.
That was the least exciting part of the video lol
