Winter is not considered an optimal time for growing, however this is not true for all plants. Some plants like the cold and are frost hardy. In this video, I am covering 10 frost resistant vegetables you can grow in winter. These vegetables tolerate light frost and some also tolerate light snow as well!

I forgot to add the hardiness temp for Peas which is 28F and Garlic which is 10F. Also, some subscribers pointed out that Brussel Sprouts and Bok Choy is also frost hardy, so the list has grown to 12! Enjoy!

We had planted Radishes here in Texas. When the frost came, we were sad that the plants died. However after the snow and ice thawed out and we dug them out and the Radishes were completely edible. Super happy about it.
Try dykon radish,it's underground! Easy cover with newspaper,hay, etc. Cleans liver, best winter detox!

Rosemary Herbs grows all year round. I have a Rosemary plant that I've been growing for years. Thanks for this great info. I will definitely add this to my list
This depends on how cold it gets. Go too far north and Rosemary is an annual, unfortunately.
@@mandyjedi And how well you mulch with airy mulch. Mulch reasonably and you can keep many crops going strong through light or harder frosts.
Over a hundred types of rosemary plant! Look them up. Some hardy, some not.
Using all your ideas to start a winter garden... something I've never done
Ive had so much fun using my God given garden veggies to create wonderful healthy soups!
I had red russian kale and mustard greens all winter long last year. If it was going to get very cold I just covered it with a bin or a tarp overnight for insulation and took it off midday. I loved the fresh greens every day.
+ Parsley (survives any frost, leaves grow even under light snow), Horseradish (roots survive any frost), Onions (some varieties tolerate down to -15C, but won't actually grow below freezing), Wild garlic (bulb survives any frost, leaves grow from -5C)
Yum yum and yum. The underrated ones. Horseradish along with other goodies, are really great to make fire cider vinegar from homemade apple cider vinegar. Brilliant immune boost. P.s. a good idea to grow the horseradish in a pot, so it doesn't take over the whole veggie patch

It's 18.12.'22. Temperture, the coming days should be 5-12°C during the day and - 1 till 5°C during the night. The ground, dirt is wett. Can they be planted outside or In a glass house?

I once had some brussels sprouts that didn't appear ready when the snow came. I forgot about them and in spring when the snow was melting I discovered it all finished and ready to harvest as if it had been in the freezer, only fresher.

Cheers for the video, came to Western Victoria from Darwin so i wasn't sure what i could get away with growing down here. We got big frost and light snow as late as September last year. I put corn, potatoes, carrots and onion in a newly established garden back in October and had some good success

Diatamatouse earth used with a puffer, is fantastic, and the soil loves it. It will stay on the plant for a few days too.
Sugar snap peas are delicious and can eat the pod and all. We grow ours up an old piece of Rio that I lent up against the fence. I used some part dried gum branches to weave in and out on the edges. Topped it off nicely

The one issue I've had with overwintering carrots is they can get woody. A local nursery owner told me which variety to plant to avoid this, but I didn't write it down, so now I can't remember. 😣I would guess the shorter and fatter ones like Danvers Half Long? I know for sure rainbow carrots are NOT good for overwintering unless you like gnawing on sticks.

FYI we are in the north east and plant garlic in the fall and harvest the following year. Before we wised up we planted it in the spring assuming we should 🤔 well we were wrong, lesson learned. Last year we planted in mid October and had a beautiful harvest in August. 💝

I’m in southwest Ohio (zone 5) and currently growing kale, Swiss chard, Brussels sprouts and Bok Choy right now. We’ve had two frosts with temps down to 26F with no problem. Bok Choy is a great “cut and come again” veg!

@@ClaraTunwin I’m in Zone 5, and I planted Bok Choy from seed in mid-September. Hope this helps.

@@ClaraTunwin I just checked my garden journal. I started the seeds in mid-August under grow lights, moved the seedlings to a shady spot on my deck the 3rd week of September, then transplanted those to my garden the 4th week.

Not frost or light snow but heavy snow and way below freezing in Colorado, still nothing happened to them.

I live in the Pacific Northwest. Our winters are usually mild. I had lettuce growing in November, all winter! Because I grow in containers on my balcony, I don't have a pest problem. Gonna try most of these.😏

Hi Jags, I am in the NY, Long Islands, and new to Gardening. Growing vegetables had been on my wish list for a long time, but was nervous getting started until I came across to your videos. Have subscribed to your videos as well. Planning to build a small greenhouse and get in to venturing together with nature. Gardening seems simple and interesting but challenging as well.
