  • How to mix insulin NPH (cloudy) and regular (clear) in nursing. In this video, I demonstrate mixing two insulins in one syringe (mixing NPH and regular insulin). I also talk about the purpose of mixing insulin, the do's and don'ts when mixing insulin clear to cloudy, and give you a mnemonic on how to remember the way how to mix NPH and regular insulin.

    CORRECTION: At 3:14, the reason for drawing up clear to cloudy is to prevent contaminating the CLEAR insulin (not the cloudy). Here are the notes from the lecture which clarifies this: www.registerednursern.com/how-to-draw-up-insulin-steps-on-how-to-mix-insulin-clinical-nursing-skills/.

    I was taught Nancy Reagan, Reagan Nancy. First Inject air into NPH (Nancy) and then inject air into Regular (Reagan), then draw medication from Regular (Reagan) and then draw from NPH (Nancy). Idk if this will help anyone but it helped me remember 😊

    You really deserve to be a professor.
    Thank you very much for the enlightenment!

    a tip i use to remember order: the R comes before N in RN (which we all will be), therefore the (R)egular insulin is drawn before the (N)PH insulin.

    Great job as usual Sara!! I have more than half of your videos saved in my like file!! they will all come in handy when I have to refer back on them. Your method(s) allow for a student to take notes, get a full understanding of the topic!! Sara, have you thought about becoming an instructor of nursing? You really should!! as an educator returning back to college for nursing..trust me when I say; I can recognize an influential teacher when I see one!!

      @RegisteredNurseRN  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wow, thank you so much...that means a lot to me :) Some day I may consider it...who knows what the future holds. I didn't know you are an educator...very awesome! As always, thank you for your encouraging comments about my videos, and I'm glad you have them saved so you can refer back to them when you need them. I hope your summer is going great :)

    Yes, I am a certified Reading/English teacher in Louisiana. I am returning back to college in nursing as my 2nd career goal. I am very excited about that!! I have been fortunate that my teaching credentials have covered all except 4 prerequisites prior to applying for nursing school-which I have completed as of this summer!! I will be applying to nursing school in Aug.!! Your videos are informative, detailed, and right to the point of subject matter. If and when you decide to advance your career, you will excel well in whatever area/choice you make!! Keep up the great work Sara!!

    • @RegisteredNurseRN
      @RegisteredNurseRN  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you so much :) It's very awesome you're a teacher in Louisiana. I've met other teachers who are going back to school for nursing, and I've met nurses who are returning back to school to enter teaching. It seems like the two professions go together and attract the same personalities. I bet you were very relieved to know that most of your pre-reqs were covered. Please keep me updated on how applying to nursing school goes :)
      I have to say that I really appreciate your comments about my teaching abilities, especially coming from someone who is a teacher. Thank you for the encouragement :)

      Shoot, You should just start your own Nursing School. I have plenty of teachers even DON that could benefit from your mentoring. These videos have helped me through this trying time doing school online during the quarantine 2020. I feel like everyone has gotten lazy since we've had to switch doing everything from home. It's been a rough past 10+ weeks. Thank you so much for your help with all your videos and info on your website. Unsure where you are from but I appreciate it all the way here in Virginia!!!!
