Trained with him a decade ago for a while at Serra BJJ in Long Island. I was young and new to the sport and the place. Walked in and was shy and intimidated. Matt was behind the counter and immediately made me feel comfortable. Cracked jokes and made me feel at ease. He’s one of the nicest guys you could meet. So down to earth and humble.
I always pictured him that way, so it's great news to hear that he's actually the way you think he would be. Legit 100% down to earth awesome Champ. Love from the West Coast 💯👍🏽😎🫡

This guy gives hope to all of us short guys! Always been a big Serra fan, great guy, hilarious, humble, has done a lot for the sport and will continue to do so…
@@zealpulses3826 i mean it 100% does cause that , but matt hughes had an accident were a train hit his truck and he had some pretty bad brain injuries from that
When Serra shocked the world, I was weeks away from turning 18. One of my favorite moments in all sports history, and to a better guy it couldn't have happened. Absolute gent, and absolute legend.
It's funny, my thoughts on Matt. It's like those teachers back in school that you just didn't like, you didnt care to see the big picture, you just couldn't stand them, but years later, you realize that you saw it wrong, you misjudged and that dislike flipped to respect. Much respect to Matt, thank you champ.
Best part: 'Look how pretty my wife is'. 15:00 I love how genuinely he said it as well, like a kid seeing her for the first time. Yes Matt, well played, well played indeed!
The real life Rocky story of the UFC! What a career “The Terror” had. Seems like a fantastic guy too who adores his wife and no doubt his kids. Hope he’s doing well! 💪🇮🇹
I wish the 145 lb was around when he started and he was dedicated to the weight. He was short even for LW, and then he had to bulk up as he aged to fight guys like Karo (before TUF). I was teaching in Long Island and another teacher was the Serra Jui Jitsu kids instructor. I was way into MMA and shocked him with my knowledge of Pride and UFC. I got invited down to do a striking intro day (kick pads for zero down and sign up and we’ll take your money each month) Everyone was really nice, but Serra has to make his nut to pay the rent. Prices for a months training seemed astronomical when I was in my 20s making shit money. Now what I pay for golf, and suck, wish I trained BJJ when I was young (now I’m 41)
Look at his neck, he thicc booys. No, all jokes aside, Matt seems like the most loveable guy u could meet. Since i watched "Dana Lookin for a fight" i started to really like this fella.
The terra serra! Easily on a short list of best all around characters to ever fight in the ufc. Just seems like a really good dude. Plus I remember watching tuf 4 and I was rooting for Matt since the first episode, he's hard to root against I'm telling ya
I would love to see a movie about Matt serra if only joe pesci was 30 years younger hed be perfect for the role of Matt. Deepfake him or cgi a younger him would be mind blowing.
Great seeing the older footage of Matt, I remember him ko'ing GSP like it was yesterday. I'm Irish and none of my friends watched mma at the time. Stayed up all night to see the fight.
This era of UFC or MMA in general was awesome, now it’s very over saturated I find it hard to keep up with all the new names. I’m sounding like an old man 😂
Jeez. I hated this guy the first time I saw him fight.. hated him even more the first time I heard him talk.. Didn't think it was possible but I hate him even more after this..damn he sucks.
Man I love these year of the fighter videos. I wasn't a big matt Serra fan, but until lately we all love him as fans obviously. But I just remember wanting GSP to always win during this era LOL. But when Serra won I was pretty nub fan, I thought it was a fluke. Turns out he was just an elite fighter, but small for the division?! either way LEGEND! and Dana's friend/body guard?
Lol until Matt Serra I didn’t like New Yorkers but I’m always going to back someone from the US vs someone from another country. After the TUF season and the fight against GSP I was a full blown fan. Probably one of the first times I cried being happy for someone else fulfilling their dream. This year was an awesome year and I love remembering it.
Matts ability to generate power when in positions that he can't use his lower half to load up , is unmatched . His shots from the back an in guard, in transition are just disgusting

Thank you for this
The embodiment of New York toughness💪
Matt is the type of guy you have to really try to dislike, he is humble and true to himself. Gotta love the Long Island Living Legend.
Would be awesome to get a Frankie Edgar episode!
Matt has always been a good hearted person,
I couldn't be happier for him, Matt deserved having a good career in the UFC.
Good things happen to good people.
Matt is the man. He lived a life better than the best movie and he isn't close to being finished. I'll always be a fan of The Terra
Never really watched Matt growing up, but I’m glad I saw this. He seems like a way nice, cool man with a big heart. Nice to see
As a retired dog walker, I completely agree.
Matt huges deserves some limelight these days. He was a huge part of the growth of the ufc.
Matt hugs. What a guy.
Surprised The Sopranos never used him in an episode.
Chuck Liddell Tito Ortiz Randy couture

Nice to re-live all these. Watched all these legends live back in the day. Tha Terra. Well done man.
Great loyal guy, great fighter and just plain entertaining. Couldn't ask for anything else. He had a dream career and will ALWAYS be remembered.
My favorite dude in the sport. I think he's just a kind soul.
Genuinely miss Mike Goldberg
GSP , GSP in his PRIME, underestimated him and shocked the world. Lets not forget

Matt beat GSP before GSP ever had a title defense. Not that special. I love the person but the fight is revisionist history.

For me this was the biggest upset ever, no more champs at the end of the Ultimate Fighter
The movie you talk about should show the rematch Matt HAHAHA where you literally got the living shit kicked outta you hows that for an idea LOL
No matter what he will still be known as a champion
Its true, there will be a movie about this win one day. There is no other way.
I’ve never heard a bad thing about this guy.

Still the biggest upset in UFC history. When he caught George with that punch, he was not gonna let up until he was out of there.
Matt Serra with what I think is still the biggest upset in UFC history at UFC 69, nice
