Deborah Harry is now 79 & still tours the world with Blondie. The band was formed in 1974. In there early years they were a frequent act at CBGBs. They were also one of the pioneers of the New Wave genre
Just their 4 U.S. Number Ones alone shows the band's versatility: rock (Call Me), Rapture (pop/rap), The Tide Is High (reggae), Heart of Glass (disco/pop).
They actually have a hit song about a stalker, which is a true story that happened to Debbie Harry - it's called 'One Way Or Another'. In a separate incident before they were famous she and her boyfriend (guitar player) were the victims of a home invasion, he was tied up and she was raped. The thief stole the guitar and she said that was the worst part because they couldn't afford to lose the guitar at that time. Tough lady.
For some excellent reggae based songs- it’s gotta be the Police. Walking On The Moon was one of their biggest hits- the official video has great sound and the drumming is so infectious.
I would like to recommend the track "DOUBLE BARREL" by Dave & Ansel Collins. It was one of the first Ska/Reggae tracks to reach number one on the UK Charts in 1971. It was a very influential track that inspired many bands like Blondie, The Clash, The Specials, The Police, and other similar bands at the time. The track possibly has one of the sickest Basslines out there. Many attribute it as being influencial to many of the artists who would be influential in the Rap/Hip Hop scene in the late '70s and early eighties. I think it is an important track that needs to be discovered and illuminated. If you guys consider this track I recommend the 1971 Top of the Pops performance rather than the recorded single. It is a better produced version plus you get the visual of the band.
Most of the members have been together since the beginning too. This group is similar to Sade (which you guys reacted to I see) in that there is the perception that the group's name is really the lead singer's performing name, which is not the case.
Original was by the Jamaican group The Paragons released in 1967. John Holt was a member of the Paragons. I very much like the original because the song is classic rocksteady.
Check out some other Reggae covers: Sublime - "River of Babylon" 1992 (originally by The Melodians, 1972) Musical Youth - "Pass The Dutchie" 1982 (originally by The Mighty Diamonds as "Pass the Kouchie"1981 )
I just added this song to my "Jeep Jukebox" a couple of weeks ago. This might be the first time I have seen this video. Like you guys, all I could think of was WTF? Definitely was a "throw all the technology in" video. It actually took me a little while to catch on to Blondie but I like quite a few of their songs. Also, I think to get away with the Star Wars reference they had to make "Vader" look ridiculous. Well, they didn't have to make him look that ridiculous, just different.
Damn I love Blondie. Debbie Harry is a true icon. A band a way ahead of their time. You want a stalker song try One Way Another, Dreaming, Atomic, Heart of Glads.
Love Blondie but please listen to the original rocksteady (it’s not ska, people, ska is a faster beat) song by the Paragons, it is sublime. Also, John Holt was lead singer of the Paragons until he went solo.
Great video guys! Agreed about the song but the video...smh. So I know you guys love musicians and hip hop. Please check out "Hi Ren" by Ren. Some of the best guitar playing I've ever heard and lyrically its incredible. It's gonna take you down this "Ren hole" that you WILL NOT REGRET!
They are best in a live performance She is way more interesting to look at than the dumb random imagery . Music videos were weird. everyone was trying to figure out what works .
8bit computers were advanced and expensive... We heard audio only 1st... That's how we judged it... Visuals are huge distraction and hinders your ability to focus
Omg. The one song i hate by her. LOL. Nothing but respect for Debbie Harry ( i like most songs by Blondie). but i just always hated this song. But cool. I watch all your reactions.
Well, videos weren't big in 1980. Also, budgets for videos weren't big in 1980. Had to be somewhat creative or goofy for the $$$ you had. But, more original than rap groupies twerking with low riders in the background while rappers in tank tops wearing gold chains grab their crotches. 😅
The video is strange because the original storyline was edited like this. The original video makes more sense, although it's still a little odd. This is just a disaster of a video.
This is a cover of an old Rocksteady/Ska song first recorded in 1967 by The Paragons, written by John Holt!
Blondie is the name of the band, Debbie Harry the singer...
To be fair, that was her nickname
70s rocker who really dug this band a lot. Saw them live a few times lots of energy . Blondie , Talking heads , Ramones. etc.

So talented and so fine.
We all had crushes on her when we were young teens.
The entire group rocked.
Just their 4 U.S. Number Ones alone shows the band's versatility: rock (Call Me), Rapture (pop/rap), The Tide Is High (reggae), Heart of Glass (disco/pop).
Very impressive!!!!
BILLBOARD #1 FOR 4 WEEKS IN 1980 🥇
We didn’t care about videos back then , still don’t , it’s about the music
In the day we thought the video was a hoot, very purposely cliched, & hilarious production 'values'.
Good tune, fun video.
Bought the 45 with my allowance, still have it. Never get tired of it. Blondie Is A Group was one of their taglines, lol.
She started off in a punk band during the 70's.

Tough lady indeed!!!
This was 1980, 19 months before MTV launched.
For some excellent reggae based songs- it’s gotta be the Police.
Walking On The Moon was one of their biggest hits- the official video has great sound and the drumming is so infectious.
Bloindie usherd in punk/new wave to the pop charts . A decade later they did the same with Rap
They hold a very special place in music history.
BLONDIE - DREAMING (Banger!!)
yep
Amazing song
Probably one of the best cover songs originally written and recorded by the Jamaican ska/rocksteady vocal group "The Paragons".
There was a t-shirt that said "BLONDIE IS A GROUP"
Maybe the tide wasn't the only thing that was high when they were making the video?
Top tier comment!!!
Debbie Harry and Diana Ross were my first 2 crushes when I was a little kid.
Next do "Dreaming" official video.
One beautiful woman right there! Her voice is beautiful as well!
Blondie appear to love their "stalkerish" songs: One Way or Another, The Tide is High and Accidents Never Happen. A recurring theme.

Gotta love 80s video - "We need something to put on MTV for this song, and we've got no budget!"
Love the reggae connection with the Police that you caught Fenom. Reggae had just gotten into the mainstream around the time the bands formed.
Most of the members have been together since the beginning too. This group is similar to Sade (which you guys reacted to I see) in that there is the perception that the group's name is really the lead singer's performing name, which is not the case.
Heart of Glass
Love her solo song 'i want that man'
Original was by the Jamaican group The Paragons released in 1967. John Holt was a member of the Paragons. I very much like the original because the song is classic rocksteady.
I never knew that.
Early videos were strange.
We thought so at the time as well.
Other musicians know who the musicians are. Clem Burke is regarded as one of the greatest drummers in rock.
Chris Stein, Clem Burke, Nigel Harrison, Jimi Destri.
Check out some other Reggae covers:
Sublime - "River of Babylon" 1992 (originally by The Melodians, 1972)
Musical Youth - "Pass The Dutchie" 1982 (originally by The Mighty Diamonds as "Pass the Kouchie"1981 )
Debbie sure did hold on Olli lol
Just found you chaps good stuff subbed

Blondie's like SADE.
Damn I love Blondie. Debbie Harry is a true icon. A band a way ahead of their time. You want a stalker song try One Way Another, Dreaming, Atomic, Heart of Glads.
Whitesnake 'Here I Go Again' ❤
now you must listen to john holts original
The video for Rapture was kind of odd, but it was a pretty good video. This one...what in the world were they thinking??
☮️💙💙💙🔥🔥🌊
They use to play it in roller skating rings. All three of her songs
One way or another ,stalker, Blondie
Yes John Holt sang first. John was a Jamaican reggae singer he died in 2010 from a heart attack.
You MUST listen to THE HARDEST PART. And watch the video. It’s FIRE.
Love Blondie but please listen to the original rocksteady (it’s not ska, people, ska is a faster beat) song by the Paragons, it is sublime. Also, John Holt was lead singer of the Paragons until he went solo.
This was the worst video I've ever seen buy a major band, but I remember the song well and still do love Blondie.
I'm the whitest person ever...love your channel, my new fav!
Road Trip stuff
But good job guys
Even Vader Vadered to her
They are best in a live performance

Great song. Not so great video.
Yeah its 1980s video. I didnt watch em.
It's a little stalkerish 😀
Pre-MTV. The art of the video had not yet been perfected.
These videos in the 80s were just stupid, they just needed to get airtime on MTV. Music is good, just wish videos never existed
8bit computers were advanced and expensive... We heard audio only 1st... That's how we judged it... Visuals are huge distraction and hinders your ability to focus
sorry, have Blondie on Audio Cassette
It doesn't matter what the video means. As long as you get to see blondie in the short skirt
Omg. The one song i hate by her. LOL. Nothing but respect for Debbie Harry ( i like most songs by Blondie). but i just always hated this song. But cool. I watch all your reactions.
Have to close your eyes and just listen... the video is that bad 😅
Well, videos weren't big in 1980. Also, budgets for videos weren't big in 1980. Had to be somewhat creative or goofy for the $$$ you had. But, more original than rap groupies twerking with low riders in the background while rappers in tank tops wearing gold chains grab their crotches. 😅
I thought the reactions were on the songs. Who gives a fuck about videos. 😂.
The video is strange because the original storyline was edited like this. The original video makes more sense, although it's still a little odd. This is just a disaster of a video.
yep great song but a real bad irrelevant to the song video lol
there are better Blondie Tracks
Never was a fan of Blondie. Sorry, just not. Ty however for the reaction
Most music videos, especially in the 80's were just bad. Way too much "creative license."
