@@3DJapan I've seen a video from one of the early rap artists (maybe Grandmaster Flash?) who said he and other rappers recognized the importance of Rapture and were thrilled that a mainstream band like Blondie saw the value of rap enough to attempt their own rap song. His reaction to the actual rap was "What the hell was that all about?"
Landmark song. Disco was nearly dead, New Wave was popular, Hip Hop and Rap were in their infancy. This banger brought them all together. This video was everywhere back then......
Those are two of my favorite Blondie songs as are Heart of Glass and Rapture. Other favorites are Die Young Stay Pretty, No Imagination, Atomic, The Tide is High, Accidents Never Happen... You know I should quit or I'm just gonna end up listing half of their songs. 😄
This one is in our history books. Rap had been around as an underground genre, but Blondie's 'Rapture' brought Rap into mainstream attention for the first time. Blondie has a great music catalogue to explore. They were pioneers that mixed a variety of genres including new wave, punk, rock, pop rock, disco, & funk. Here is a very short list of song recommendations: "One Way or Another" "The Hardest Part" "Dreaming" "Call Me" "Atomic" "The Tide Is High" "Union City Blue" "Die Young, Stay Pretty" "Detroit 442" "Hanging on the Telephone" "11:59"
I think her best vocal is on "Picture This." They have a ton of huge hits. "Dreaming" is my favorite, but "Hanging on the Telephone," "One Way or Another" and "Call Me" were also giant rock hits. There's also "Union City Blue," "Sunday Girl," "The Tide is High"...

Your reactions and comments about Debbie and my favorite band ever are so lovely. I think you express what I’ve always loved about this song, Debbie and the band better than I ever could.
*It surprises a lot of people that Blondie's RAPTURE was not only the first number one rap single in the USA, it is also THE FIRST number one rap single in THE WORLD! Secondly, Rapture was the only rap single at the time - and throughout decades - that used original [Blondie's] music, not a sampling or a backing track of another person's music. Lastly, and most importantly, these facts led Blondie and RAPTURE to be featured in the Rap Hall of Fame and The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! Debbie Harry and Blondie's RAPTURE was BEYOND - and still is - GROUNDBREAKING.*
First Rap Song on MTV; Blondie is a rabbit hole you will enjoy. They had no genre, they dabblied everywhere with their song, which is why they have always been one of my Favs.
Dear Aileen… Thank you for this reaction…and SO many more. If you want to hear a COMPLETELY different ‘Blondie’; a sweeping, powerful, yet somehow haunting (the ending scene of an amazing series; ‘the deuce’) version of ‘Sidewalks of New York’ I only wish it was available for download…but can be found on TH-cam. I don’t want to spoil the series (in case you enjoy watching series’)…but I will simply say that the main character played by James Franco (Vincent), WAS a twin brother. His final walk through Times Square finds him in present day…but still able to see the spirits of those that impacted his life and memories… Quite beautiful… I hope you check it out! Oooh…to see the actual final scene with the song (for full effect)…please watch ‘the deuce’ final scene Part 1 and Part 2…
I was a young gay boy in the late 70s-early 80s and even *I* had a crush on Debbie. So did virtually everybody: black, white, straight, gay, man, woman.. She was IT! There never would have been a Madonna or a Gaga had it not been for Debbie Harry and Blondie fused so many genres of music together, I can't think of another band who did it so successfully commercially (there are probably are some, though).
Hi Aileen. Recently discovered your channel as a Floydian and love your passion for the songs of yesteryear. Debbie Harry was the epitome of cool and the "RAPture" title cleverly told us of what was to come. "Atomic", "The Tide is High" and "Call Me" are among many classics and show the variety of styles she could pull off.
Debbie is the GOAT & Blondie is so vastly underrated as a musical group in my opinion. This song proved you can mix so many genres yet remain true to rock/pop. I hope you do ATOMIC & DREAMING soon (they're my faves). Glad you're vibing w/them A xoxo
There's a lot to be said about the origins of rap surrounding this song - man, Deborah Harry in that New York scene in the mid-to-late seventies. This was a tip of the hat to that scene, and it's so fun. I love the way you analyze her voice, and if you haven't already, I would give a close listen or react to her huge hit call me. The things that she's doing with her voice in that, some of them quite subtle, are just so cool. Shows a lot of strength but then the ability to go airy, and she really twists certain things into a slang kind of delivery that is just so cool.
Options (from human jukebox) ++++++++++++++++++++++++ 1. One Way Or Another (fun!) 2. Call Me (featured in a movie so could be a movie trailer!) 3. The Tide Is High (could be after any story where lovers are separated) Yes, multi-part songs are so cool! Some bands pride themselves with not sticking to any formula or one music type.
Thank you another great reaction video. I remember when this song came out. We didn't know what to think of it at first. Your surprise with debbie rapping was the same surprise we had. I never paid much attention to top one hundred charts. If I heard a song I liked I listened. Thanks again.
I am glad you chose this one as the next song. I am pretty sure we all knew you weren't expecting that!!! LOL Great reaction Aileen!!! 'Call Me' and 'One Way or Another' are iconic. She has a bunch of great songs though.
Blonde, especially Debbie Harry, was embraced here in NYC--I love her. I'm glad the group helped push hip-hop further into the mainstream. Great choice!
Wasn't taught, singers have been rapping for centuries. It was just never called rap. Debbie Harry was big in getting rap music heard. She took on the whole industry. The major labels started signing rap artists during this period because of her. She refused to appear on SNL when this song was released unless they included The Funky 4 plus one. On February 14, 1981, The Funky 4 Plus One made history when they performed "That's The Joint" on NBC's Saturday Night Live. She was a huge contributor to the rap industry and it's rise. She actually fought for it to happen.
@@bettyrose959 I'm so proud to have been part of that time🙏 70s/early 80s is the only rap I listen to. I myself a B-Boy from the time (Still aB-Boy) I knew when Blondie appeared in American Bandstand, they were going to be Special, even as a Kid in grade school.
@@robertserafin-uc3qn Well, they were all in the same neighborhood making music. Just walking up to CBGB's you walked past a group on the corner rapping. Most of them all knew each other. Debbie took on the industry who wasn't signing any rap and it was getting very little airplay. She used her status to help make that all happen. That whole NY music scene helped in that. Same place that brought out the Beastie Boys. Also a punk band that rapped. I guess people don't understand the history of the music industry and how much control they hold on what people listen to. Took some brave artists to force changes on that stronghold. Anyway, most of the bands (and rappers) from that area were all in for each other. They did big things in NY in those days.
I loved your reaction to this, Aileen. 'Blondie' is the band, the lead singer is Debbie Harry, she now likes to be known as Deborah. Songs which I recommend by them are: "Fade Away and Radiate", "Picture This", "One Way Or Another", "Union City Blues", "Call Me", "(I'm Always Touched by Your) Presence, Dear", "Die Young Stay Pretty", "Atomic", "Dreaming". There are many more tracks by them as they have an extensive catalogue, but these are good ones to continue with.
To this day the band remain a great watch. Debbie is the star but she is surrounded by some very good musicians especially Clem Burke who to this day remains one of the world's finest drummers - check him out on Dreaming. Aileen another hit - thanks for sharing.

Love this song! The groove is so funky, and it's an early homage to Brooklyn's then mostly unknown hip hop scene. The video is full of references to the genre's Caribbean roots and cultural touchstones like street art. I'd also recommend Blondie's "Call Me" for a whole other side of the band.
My fave New Wave/Rock/Disco/Rap/Reggae/Pop group. Blondie has so many amazing songs. My personal fave is probably "Dreaming", but it changes depending on my mood. Probably the best one to react to next is "One Way Or Another", to see another side to them. Debbie is still rocking into her 70's. A recent(ish) song that I liked is "Doom or Destiny", featuring Joan Jett. Cheers!
I’ve heard a few blonde songs over the years but not sure if I’ve heard this one before. Loved this reaction and always look forward to more from you! 💙
Aileen, Debbie is amazing at everything she attempts. She even tried her hand at acting and was fantastic. Back in the day, when we got Blondie with Debbie in the lead we also got the band Berlin with Terri Nunn (who was also an actress) on vocals and the band Missing Persons with the "wayyyyyy out there" Dale Bozzio as lead. New wave music brought us some truly amazing female vocalists all at once. The 80s were a great time.
Debbie Harry (blondie) Was offered a lift once in New York, but luckily for her, she thought twice and didn’t accept it. She later found out that the man who offered her the lift was TED BUNDY !
Hey my dear Aileen! I love to see, that you had uncovered Blondie, NIIIICE! One fact of her legacy as an Artist is: "Blondie's “Rapture” (1980) became the first single featuring a rap to reach number 1 in the USA", and of course much more, she, Debbie, together with her Band, made Music with style, part was influenced by disco und punk, part is her own innovation, this RAP ture for example, her influence to wave, mixing everthing with elements of funk, astonishing and really nice, take care my dear, see ya! 😘💝
Yessss! Great stuff!! Just to blow your mind a bit. 2 of the band, the guitarist and the piano player. Are twin brothers. Insanely famous here in England for this, and also for playing the Kray twins in a film in the 80's about the Krays. Also, the piano playing brother wrote this song! 😊 Pure badasses P s. I knew the PM Dawn version maybe 25 years before I saw/heard the original. It's a funny old world 😁😎👌
As an 'arty' alternative (15-year-old) high school kid back in 1980, I remember spinning this album late into the night while I created my angsty artwork. Every time I hear this album (Autoamerican) and this song I'm transported back. My favourite song by Debbie Harry is 'Inner City Spillover.' - very alternative for the time and super cool. Great reaction Aileen.
I discovered you when you were first looking at Primus and being somebody who is in the base I thought oh my God this should blow your mind. But now you're looking at Blondie I absolutely love Blondie I'm a Debbie Harry fan forever welcome to the journey of Blondie there are too many things for me to recommend at this point. I will recommend a bunch of stuff the other people need you to their hits and then I will pull out some of the stuff that'll blow your mind later
I think I was in the 4th or 5th grade when I first heard Blondie, I actually seen her on American bandstand and that was amazing. Either way I fell in love, with her voice and the style of Melody she and the band produced. You had disco, pop and rock, it was all there for the taken 🙏
Iconic song. In the day MTV would not play black artists, but Debbie had met Grandmaster Flash and included rap in this song, and this song is the one that introduced rap to the MTV audience, and soon after rap and hip hop got traction on tv and the radio.
Triumph is a Canadian rock band with an incredible guitar player & singer. Gil Moore is one of my favorite hard hitting drummers. Rik Emmett has an incredible vocal range. I have no idea how he hits those high notes. To hear that incredible vocal range, check out the song "Time Goes By" I'm pretty sure you and the subscribers will enjoy this band.
I was born in 1964 the last year of the Baby Boomers. I am 60 Years old Rappers Delight by the Sugarhill Gang was released in 1979 the first Rap song to chart. Rapture By Blondie was the first Rap song to go number one. This was what we knew as Rap Music. It was great to dance to and had great fun lyrics. Please react to Rapper's Delight by the Sugarhill Gang. There is a short version that was played on the Radio and a 14 minute version that was played in the Clubs and school Dances etc.
Most of Blondie's "Early work" pre dates the need to have a video to accompany the song. Shows like Top Of The Pops in the UK had a Dance group to perform with a song when the band could not attend live (not that they were allowed to perform LIVE !). LIVE MUSIC was one of the attractions of shows like THE TUBE (Early Frankie Goes To Hollywood performing RELAX was a highlight !)
Hi Aileen 😊 Absolutely brilliant reaction and analysis of Blondie's Rapture 😊👍 I'm glad you and your team figured out how to get around the blockage from TH-cam... great job 😊👍 You are a very very smart business person and you understand the numbers game 🎯 All the recommendations are fantastic from the comments and I look forward to your reactions in the future 😊👍 Have a great day you and Arya with much love 😊👍💪❤️✌️🤘🎃👑👑 PS I agree with Barren that this is a way to get around TH-cam for future blocked videos. The eternally cool Debbie! Thanks for continuing to check out these guys! 🥳 Edit: By the way, I recommend checking out live clips of Blondie. They often sounded a bit more raw live, and I always find it a treat to watch Debbie bounce around all over the stage while Clem Burke massacres his drums!
Great reaction, Aileen. Imagine how most of us acted the first time WE heard this. It was unlike anything most of us had heard at that point in our lives. TBH I didn't even realize I'd just heard someone rapping. I respect this lady and this song even more today. She was a traliblazer.
Wow that was weird just as was ready to type how I love your grin and smile through this you mentioned it, it show an appreciation to the music the artist has supplied, keep smiling x̌
There were so many ofvus that were rock/progressive rock people that liked Debby Harry and Blondie and when this came out we couldn't get enough of it. The place I would go to play pool at this was played at least two or three times a night and you could look around and a bunch of people were lipsyncing to it.
Blondie was very much into the NYC art scene in the 80s. The song is about the underground dance clubs they would go to where rap was born. "Fab Five Freddie told me everybody's fly" - Fab Five Freddy is considered the "Father of Street Art" 4:55 That's Fab Five Freddy painting the word "RaP". Freddy was good friends with - "DJ spinnin' I said, 'My My' Flash is fast, Flash is cool" - Grandmaster Flash.
The first rap video to hit it big. Way ahead of its time. I remember seeing/hearing this on TV while playing poker with some buddies. We wondered what we just saw. We didn't know, but we definitely liked it.
Blondie was part of the NY art scene that included early rappers.. I think they would see this as tapping into a new art form for inspiration. I think they would also reject any Ideas that they were part of pioneering rap music
Groundbreaking song for Blondie and the industry because it fused pop and hip hop. She honored Fab 5 Freddy & Grand Master Flash, two hip hop pioneers! Go Blondie! 🔥🔥🔥
Interesting note, Rapture was the first number-one single in the United States to feature rap vocals in 1981. 👍😎👍

Saw Blondie, back in 2013. Fantastic show! Debby Harry, is an incredible vocalist.
Amazing Aileen - this rocks!!!
Loved Blondie, I was 13 in 1980 when this was released. Great reaction, thank you.
Debbie Harry had such an angelic voice.
Loved this cover of Soldier Boy’s song. Rest in Piece Soldier Boy. Stormed Normandy with my grandfather
I think I was in the 4th or 5th grade when I first heard Blondie, I actually seen her on American bandstand and that was amazing.
Either way I fell in love, with her voice and the style of Melody she and the band produced.
You had disco, pop and rock, it was all there for the taken 🙏
oh you want a good one "The Hardest Part" is must see tv!
I just love the way her singing slides up and down effortlessly. Bored in the car, stick on Blondie, and everything is fine with the world.
LIVE MUSIC was one of the attractions of shows like THE TUBE (Early Frankie Goes To Hollywood performing RELAX was a highlight !)
if you really want to hear some great vocals from Debbie Harry, you need to listen to "Atomic" or "Maria"
Atomic was used with great effect in the movie Bend it Like Beckham.
Hi Aileen 😊 Absolutely brilliant reaction and analysis of Blondie's Rapture 😊👍 I'm glad you and your team figured out how to get around the blockage from TH-cam... great job 😊👍 You are a very very smart business person and you understand the numbers game 🎯 All the recommendations are fantastic from the comments and I look forward to your reactions in the future 😊👍 Have a great day you and Arya with much love 😊👍💪❤️✌️🤘🎃👑👑
PS I agree with Barren that this is a way to get around TH-cam for future blocked videos. Hopefully I get to meet him when I see you at the Meet and Greet next year 😊👍
Please do Dreaming. It's more punk...rock...mix. very cool
The Tide is High, Dreaming and Atomic are other great tunes by Blondie.
Great reaction! I love me some Blondie. Nostalgia all around. Recently I stumble upon a group named Brutus and i was instantly blown away. I would love to see you're reaction on their song 'War' ( Live at Rain City). ♥
Thanks for starting my mornings off with great content.
This song/rap/video was so far ahead of it's time though very innovative unique and pleasurable!!
Good reaction 👍🏽
Great reaction, Aileen. Imagine how most of us acted the first time WE heard this. It was unlike anything most of us had heard at that point in our lives. TBH I didn't even realize I'd just heard someone rapping. I respect this lady and this song even more today. She was a traliblazer.
Dreaming, Hanging on the Telephone, Accidents Never Happen, Atomic, Sunday Girl, X-Offender, In the Flesh, are all Blondie Classics
Try 'Dreaming' next ! (with Clem on the Drums!!!)
My fav reaction from the lovey Ms. Aileen. Thank you.
Pls react next to "Call Me" and "One Way Or Another". 😊
The first rap video to hit it big. Way ahead of its time. I remember seeing/hearing this on TV while playing poker with some buddies. We wondered what we just saw. We didn't know, but we definitely liked it.
Blonde was always a great singer for her and the bands music. I was very surprised as a kid when she ended up on my Playboy magazine😻
I have been watching you for awhile but have never commented. I love ❤ your reactions. You are such an amazing person.
Go Blondie! 🔥🔥🔥
Hi Aileen, Good song by Great Group. Other songs are One Way Or Another, Heart Of Glass, Call Me & many more
Debbie was a Pioneering Legend ...😊 🙏✌️❤️
Sunday girl and One way or another are my favourite Blondie songs i still have all their albums on vinyl lol
