- Part of maximizing your winrate in poker cash games is learning to navigate the minefields of strong hand vs. stronger hand situations. This video is a perfect example of utilizing positional awareness and handreading skills to prevent a big loss unecessarily. The caller had an opportunity to read the situatiuon but ended up getting pot stuck and making the wrong decision in the end.

An important key thought process to note was thinking about the likelyhood of being up against 2 other flushes vs. someone having boated up. The probability is much greater that someone has a full house therefore this river should have been a check.

I’ve only seen 3 flopped flushes. Playjng in Arizona. Board didn’t pair.

On a side note, Bart I heard you say someone is really butt hurt about not having reveals to the point of being threatening? 😂 I do agree it's annoying though and I wouldn't bother calling in unless there is a reveal. Maybe you can require it? I just heard a call where the guy called river and didn't get the reveal, which was annoying.

Bart.....as played can hero ever have AA with the ace of hearts? And is there ever an opponent that would fold to that particular bluff shove?
@@jamesbell1613 Because whether you play the hand right or wrong doesn't have anything to do with the reveal. At best the reveal can simply confirm the guy did have a hand that was part of the range you thought (and that doesn't change if your action was right, even if you won/lost the hand)...or, it shows the guy had a hand he never should have played that way, and then that doesn't really change whether or not you played the hand "correctly"

Incredibly easy fold after the flop action with two other players. Almost face up- one had a flopped set, the other had the lower flush. 😂
After he bet river, he has to call. The problem is he bet the river, which is a snap check against 2 on a paired board given the flop action

Love the perspective of what’s more likely. The BTN sandbagging or 3 flopped flushes
Yeah more likely one of them had the set, then boat.
I imagine hero’s problem was he thought anybody with a flopped set would just get it all in trying to shut down potential draws. Truth be told this is often the case, most people never think someone flopped the flush, they always think you need a fourth heart to hit it with AKo.
That being said absolutely nobody would ever get it all in on this particular run out with a worse flush, but it’s just too easy to sit here in my armchair and pretend like I’m going to be folding ace high flushes.
Hero is a marine biologist who points to shark infested waters, says hey look at all the circling fins, then proceeds to cover himself in blood, jump into the water and then wonders why he got bit.

too funny, i knew how it was going to end before the flop, from a psychological point of view i find it so interesting to watch the mental gymnastics people go through to convince themselves to call hands they know they logically should fold..........
He was still doing all sorts of front and backward metal flips during the call. He wanted to hear that he did the right thing, he wasn't trying to hear a word Bart was saying.
Once the board paired I skipped to the reveal. Obviously one of those two at least boated.

Thank you. This is one of your classics posts. Personal story. Back in the day I would enjoy watching the nose bleed fixed games on PS. The one thing I remember was when the table paired the 'pros' would proceed with caution.
I really enjoyed this hand. Rely on hand reading more than emotion and fear of foregone value.

Loved this hand, absolutely wild. The flop betting made it so face up everyone had a piece of the flush or a set. I think the turn checking through should have been disregarded as button can be pretty sure his river bet is getting called by someone and is pretty insane to bet into as a bluff
Amazing hand from start to finish - liked this caller a lot - he's 80% of the way to becoming an awesome player I think - and great commentary (and facial expressions) from Bart.
This one was painful. No one likes to have to fold the nut flush, but as played, this was a trivial fold.

on this board (three hearts on flop) when 2 opponents are not afraid of x/r, spells trouble when it pairs. Lay down anything lower than a middle FH to a jam!

The more interesting question to me is what happens if hero checks and BTN jams, SB presumably still folds (though they make life much easier if they don't).

@@jamespohl-md2eq there if turn checked through BTN potted it SB folded I'd feel forced to call. At that point BTN could conceivably still have a few hands that turned into bluffs and maybe SB X/R flop with some non-flushes. If we are discounting pocket 9s BTN has about 6 combos that beat us I think there are 3 combos of hands we beat.
As played I don't see how BTN is ever bluffing into 2 people here given the amount of strength so we are looking at scenarios he is betting lower flush? Unless I thought he were incompetent I would seriously question that he believes he can A) get called by an even lower flush and B) neither of us have the Ah or sandbagged quads. The more I think about it the more I feel like it is a fold, though I don't know if I'd ever lay it down during a game.
@@qazzaqstan Agreed...I'd eliminate a bluff by button into 2 players...and would have to believe him totally inept to value bet a lower flush. I think this is an easy check fold - they both don't have worse flushes. 64 would be an interesting dilemma. (ie. the next best hand over hero's)
@@johnf1772 given same action that would be a clear call imo (unblocking A high flush for BTN to value bet while blocking a lot of the super strong hands), but the hand is instantly off the rails if we played 64s that way.
Just had a similar hand to this an hour ago, except I was in position and called down against an omc. He flopped A high flush and bet first to act into the pre flop aggressor and 2 other people. Didn’t think he’d fast play so egregiously with the nuts, especially since most omc’s chronically slow play. Then I turned Q high flush and called his 120 into 140 bet. Was thinking sometimes people spaz when they flop a mid to low flush and the 4th flush card on the turn downgrades their hand. This logically aligns with that I don’t think he’d fast play the nuts. But then he jams River 175 into 380 and I felt pot stuck and called. In the end OMC’s are jamming river with the nuts 9/10 times, gotta fold River probably even turn

Was the flop 3bet a mistake because it got hero potstuck? Or it was good because he got value with the nuts? ~2 SPR at the turn with no 3bet.
Building the pot at that point was great, if hero knew it would get called then it was objectively correct. Potential problem would be that it looks so strong it could fold through a lot. That said hero objectively made a mistake on the river by feeling pot stuck, and probably by tilting a little knowing they hit it big on the flop and not wanting to admit not it was all over now.
We've all used similar stories to tell ourselves in order to call.
I just made the analogy with some friends the other day that playing poker is like going treasure hunting in an active minefield.
Around 15:00 he's talking about his image and how button is forced to call lighter. Shouldn't he just jam all in if he wasn't planning on folding to a raise?
The small bet makes some sense in that you can bet/fold to a raise, but if he wanted to play for stacks, he should have jammed, knowing he can get called by worse. With the river raise you're never good there. Am I reading this wrong?

I think when you raises the 25 it's the same as calling the straddle when you're sitting in the button with anything questionable So it's almost like he didn't even raise it at all so I would be calling way wider

Why not check the flop? You are out of position on a board that favors the field? What would you do here with overpairs that don’t have a heart? If the flop was black would you still suggest betting?
If you go all in on the flop after the bet and raise you probably get one caller given the hero’s wild image and if not you made $260.

I know it is Omaha, but one time the flop came. 3 hearts and 3 people went all in on the flop. With hearts, the turn and the river were also hearts. And I had folded the other 2 hearts..
So all thirteen hearts were out on the end
Never seen it since and that was about six or seven years ago.
I have seen five players have a flush ONCE. Sadly, it was just micro limits Hold Em, back in the mid 2000s, but to have all 13 of a suit in play is pretty crazy.
I folded K high flush in hold 'em a few years back after a bet and a shove in front of me. No pair on the board, and I still had 3rd best hand.
I know this is limit, but there was 3 people to the river and the fourth flush card came out and there was a bet and a raise. And the guy next to me showed me the Ace of the suit and mucked it.
And he was correct to do so.

After flop play it was so clear it was 2 flushes and set. I wouldn’t have lost another nickel after turn card.
I was actually on the winning end of a 3 flop flush just last month.

button cold calling the 3b closing the action is virtually 100% of the time 99. I don't even think it's 44. maybe 66. once they both call the flop 3bet you put zero money in once the board pairs. button can ALWAYS check back a boat here multiway with 1SPR.

Was the hero really as bad as everyone including Bart is saying he was on this hand? We've all played on tables where reputations are known amongst each other and act hugely aggressive and know their opponents are capable of playing aggressively and give credit to them for having that capability so play back at them. I think this hand had levels to it that Bart wasn't necessarily allowing the hero and viewers to consider. Yeah...in hindsight the villain turns over the 2nd nuts but how many bluffs was the villlain capable of having, because it sounds like he could have had a far wider range than the typical player on the button might have?
Annoying spot, probably avoids the spot if he doesn’t 3 bet flop. Super hard to balance that spot probably best to simplify and fold/call with range
His flop discussion didn't make any sense. He's got a terrible bluffy image and they think he never has it, but he's going to check raise with Ahx as a bluff..? Why? To get called by better every single time?
He sounds like one of those players who plays backwards. Always C-bets with air and wonders why he always gets called and always decides to trap with a monster and wonders why everyone folds (except here where they also had big hands).

What’s supposed to happen is this. And it goes to what Bart said in the clip. And that ultimately hero levelled himself here.
If hero makes a healthy cbet. The button will call and then the sb will XR both of them big and then hero can jam and then button may fold.
Then hero wins the pot.
Absolutely correct. Once you have hooked your fish (SB), don't risk losing it to a bear (button)! Doesn't matter that your jam is 3 x pot, the bear will run away, and the fish is reeled in.
Note to the guy who will probably listen to this after the fact, pay attention to the number of times you say "Like you know". If you say this so much here, you most likely do the same whenever you talk. Start listening to yourself talking (not as easy as it sounds), and you will get rid of this very bad speech habit.
Good advice for life but terrible for poker. His speech is tilting the whole table and greatly increasing his win rate.
It’s a bit tougher for minorities for various reasons, one of which is due to English being a second language.
I have a YT channel on another account and boy was this the best thing I ever did. I learned I had so many annoying habits of speech! Listening to yourself talk is a great way to rid yourself of those habits.
meh. Caller is apparently a maniac, making it hard to strategize based on hands he plays. And when the crucial point in the hand is reached - it's a poker 101 spot. What did Bart say? After all the hands he has played in his career he can think of maybe 2 or 3 triple flush flops. I know it sucks to flop the nuts & then need to fold, but that is this hand. When the turn pairs the board you simply cannot invest more $ here.
As someone else has commented, I liked his flop discussion where he says because of his aggressive image he’d always 3-bet the naked Ah because people would er…not fold?
