Ranger VS1682 Overview

Overview of my brand new Ranger deep v aluminum boat and its features. Hopefully this will help anyone who is considering this model!
Some notes:
1. I was concerned whether I would regret the smaller size. I went smaller because this fits in my garage. I am glad I did this, as I can get from garage to in the water in less than 30 mins. Having to store the boat offsite would add 20-30 mins at least, which is an issue for me as every minute taken away from water time is a problem. Having 2 or 3 extra feet or maybe extra storage is not worth the additional time it would take me to go get the boat out of a storage lot.
2. The boat was plenty big for me and my 5 year to fish no problem at all. It got a little tight with 5 total people, which is the max. If you plan to fish alot with more than 4 adults, I'd seriously consider the bigger models.
3. This year I have added a 2nd trolling battery - 1 battery was only lasting me 4-5 hours, and since one of my main lakes is electric only, I needed some more time.
4. Fish Finder - I like the Helix series, but should have gotten side imaging and down imaging. I upgraded to SI/DI this year. Just spend the extra few hundred and get it.
5. The boat tows and backs great. With very little trailer experience I quickly adjusted. I hardly notice the boat behind my Tahoe when towing. I even took it through a McDonalds drive through with no problem (kid was asleep in the back of the truck, give me a break)!
6. Launches and recovers very easily. I only looked like a fool on the ramp once or twice, and that was because a wind was pushing me off a straight line.
7. Top speed at full plane was between 40-45 MPH with the 90HP engine. That was PLENTY fast enough for me and I don't think I'll want anything faster for a LONG time.
8. CON: Cargo nets in the front. They are nice for storage but a real pain getting lures hung up. I ruined several trebles due to snagging them in the netting. I haven't taken them out yet, but that could happen if I ruin anymore lures.
9. Not really a con, but I'd advise getting the nice auto-retract straps for the cover. The safety straps on the trailer came with my trailer (not sure if that was added by the dealer), and that is a plus. Paying a $60 bucks is worth it to add this handy feature for the cover is totally worth it.
10. CON: The decals on the side rub off when bumping up against a dock. I docked overnight without bumpers and tore up the decals on one side fairly badly, although you have to go looking to notice. Easily fixed by using a bumper, which I had in the boat but didn't use.
11. It fishes really good as far as I can tell. Adjusting to boat fishing is an adjustment for me so I won't attribute any lack of catching fish to the boat. It handles very well was a ton of fun just to drive around.
12. Never had any issues in shallow water, even down to 2 feet. Don't think I bottomed it out a single time, which is probably an accomplishment as a beginner.
13. CON: The floor of the midsection, which is not carpeted, got pretty hot from time to time. Bare feet on that was uncomfortable, but not a huge issue.
14. CON (or my stupidity)? Live well - it took me almost all summer to figure out I had to manually screw in a drain plug to keep the live well from emptying. I read every manual that came with the boat, including the live well, and it didn't tell me that. I spent alot of time trying to figure out what the hell was going on and losing alot of minnows. This could be a first time boater idiot mistake and not a con for the boat.
15. Radio sounds real good and is easy to use. I stream iTunes to it and have a blast when the bite is slow.
16. Sips gas - one full tank got me through at least 8-10 days on the water and with a quarter tank to go
17. Engine is pretty quiet - spent a ton of time trolling without being bothered by the sound of the engine
18. CON: On a busy lake with boat wakes hitting you, it will make sound against the aluminum hull. Not horrible but you are going to hear it. I'm more annoyed by getting knocked around than the sound, but be aware.
