    Could you use trace elements that are used in gardening be use to replace elements exhausted by the aquarium? It's just a silly question out of interest. I will send some pictures and info through to you once our new aquarium has a running time of 3 to 4 months, to give you an idea of its progress using your complete system using a slow moving Plenum and BCB's in the sump.

    I've been working on my 75 gal setup. I was able to get those plates for it. I added some material under the plenum. As shown in your 90gal setup
    I'm also excited to have a similar layer of clay and laterite under my sand. This has worked really well for me in my 36gal. I'm excited to see the results in a larger aquarium!

    This video is really great for me as it clears up many of my logical thinking. I have always wondered how negative charged nitrates gets attracted into the negative charged BCBs[ I've asked that question many years ago]Negative charged ions should repel each other. Diffusion is what is pulling nitrates into the BCBs besides convection flows. So as Dr. Novak had so painstakingly pointed out BCB had 3 'forces' :- ionic,diffusion and convection. BCBs will take a very much longer time[a year or two?] to clog.One just has to simply lift up the BCBs and put it back[no disassembling]. I think I saw that in one of the older videos. Really great, Dr Novak rocks! lol

    In one of your previous videos you mentioned the ratio of fish to plant requirements for proper balance. Can you give an approximate PCB size to fish ratio? Example: 10 6inch discus = PCB size?

     @Kevin Novak Ph.D. Kitty litter made whith bentonite and and montmorillonite clays, could be usefull? We are trying to find correct materials for BCB baskets in Argentina.

    • @annalee7403
      @annalee7403 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I won't pretend to speak for Dr Novak. But bentonite and and montmorillonite clays are essentially the same type of clay formed from volcanic ash. As long as the kitty litter you are looking at contains no dyes, perfumes, or other chemicals (100% baked clay) it should be okay to use for your BCB baskets.

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@annalee7403 thanks a lot for your assistance. In another comment, Dr. Novak warned me that the problem is that they are not baked. Then I asked him if natural zeolite that aquarium brands sell, wich has a negative electric charge and stays very solid in water, could be used replacing the Kitty litter, but he didn't answer. What do you think about this?

    • @annalee7403
      @annalee7403 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @ You're welcome. I don't have experience with zeolite in a freshwater system for the purposes you intend. I have used it and still do in salt water systems for a different purpose. So I don't feel qualified to answer your question. I have done a cursory search and it appears that zeolite will work. You might want to give it a try, and let us all know. It would help a bunch of people, i think.

    • @sakleo8
      @sakleo8 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @ He replied to me earlier yes it can be used, challenge with Zeolite is it releases ammonia when you add salt to water, so if you ever need to add salt to the tank to treat the fish that will be an issue

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Dear Dr. Novak,
    I'm from India and would like to setup a slow moving plenum with clay but I'm unable to find non clumping Kitty litter. It would be really grateful if u could help me in finding alternatives in India so that I can be the flag beared here to spread the better way to filtration. I see a lot of hobbyists spending money on expensive fishes and loosing them over time just like I lost my interest for sometime after loosing my Precious Frontosa colony. But your videos have rekindled my spark to get back into the hobby with the use of Anoxic filter.
    Looking forward to your reply
    Thanks and Regards

    • @anoxicfiltrationplenums
      @anoxicfiltrationplenums  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you’re going to make a slow moving Plenum in your aquarium you don’t necessarily have to use kitty litter. Watch my video and see how I made it and see if you can replicate what I did in my video. One person used entirely Fluval fluorite red and made his plenum out of that. The pictures I show in my new video are of his tanks from New York and he has no kitty litter in those tanks.

    Do you know what purigen is?

    • @anoxicfiltrationplenums
      @anoxicfiltrationplenums  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I guess the question you should be asking is to a saltwater hobbiest why they are not using it? I mean if it’s as good as seacem claims it is you would think every salt water hobbyist would be using it and they would not be running into the problems that they have to this very day. If it were as great as they claim, also why are people still using algae scrubbers in saltwater aquarium‘s and not using purigen?
