You should have mentioned that you can use IDMUS to change the music to songs that don't play in levels, like the Readme theme and the bunny scroller. At least, I could have sworn that it was possible in some source ports.
I always figured the 'Very happy' referred to the Skull keys given with the cheat, since in vanilla doom, only the Skulls appear on the status bar if you have both keys + skulls. So, you have the smiling skull keys with the weapons.
I'm seriously loving your content man, it's amazing the scope of your videos on Doom alone - so many questions answered and new ones explored. You've created a gold mine of information and I can't tell you how grateful I am (and no doubt everyone else is) to you for putting this all together for us. Oh, and from the sounds of it, you and I were just starting to put some wear on our Marine-issued space boots around the same time - I always call the 90's 'the golden age' of PC gaming. I was lucky enough to play the beta of Doom several months before it shipped - there was no sound but my eyes soaked up an experience that forever changed my definition of immersion. Apologies for the rambling post, it had to be said. Cheers man 👍🍻
Things I learned from this video: * the background story of IDCHOPPERS's popup text * the actual text having lowercase letters but not being able to display them * Berserk not actually being infinite duration * IDCLEV game crashes (how did I never try this in 1996?!?!?!) * the source code scrambling of the cheat codes themselves
I am incredibly amazed that I am learning something about a game I was playing hundreds of hours nearly 30 years ago. I was contemplating all the texture, I was imagining a Hell culture/lore/universe, I was writing and drawing all my teenhood on this topic. And Today, near 2021, you still teach me stuff. Thank you so much.
I found a tiny mistake you made (maybe others did as well, I went through the comments and did not see it mentioned though). The special hurt floor at the end of episode 1 doesn't "hurt" you when you have IDDQD on, it disables the cheat entirely once you are supposed to take the 1st damage. You can test it by putting IDDQD on and IDCLIP (IDSPISPOPD) move into the area, take damage and leave. You will not have god mode anymore.
fun fact about the putrid debris cheat code, the alternative rock band Smashing Pumpkins actually acknowledged the name and in response used a Doom explosion sound effect in one of their songs, Where Boys Fear To Tread
Another thing worth mentioning is how "IDKFA" is also an achievement in DOOM 2016, which you may unlock only after getting every weapon upgrade. Great video, though!
One of the things I find most disappointing in the cheat codes is that there isn't one to give you the upgraded ammo capacity that you get from the backpack full of ammo. I'm playing The Ultimate Doom v1.9 in DosBox, and it only fills up my ammo to the current capacity. I was hoping to see something about that in this video, like maybe a cheat that _does_ increase ammo capacity, because when I'm cheating my way through, it's nice to minimize the amount of times I have to type "IDFA" to refill that BFG 9000. 😉
I could have sworn IDGOD was a code... either way, this brought back memories of my brother proudly reciting IDDQD and IDKFA when he found out I was playing Doom for the first time on PC. So thanks for that, my dude.
Man I loved Mock II's music. Especially what it *did* with the music. Like that one level that kept changing the bgm to the same song, but in different keys. My favorite has to be Oh Noes Hell Is Falling for how boldly awful it is. One of my old site admins still uses it to make sure their ingame audio plugin works!
Finding out how the cheats were found in the first place was definitely the most interesting part. I always wonder about that stuff, and cool to learn that fans figured them out first!
Decino: "... interestingly, this cheat was added later in version 1.666, released when doom came out." Me: "1.666?!" *_Now we all know why Doom 2 has "Hell On Earth" at the end of it's name..._*
I may not remember cheat codes for doom, but I do to this very day remember all Warcraft 3 cheats. Since my original exposure to DOOM was the PS1 port, when I was just a child. The cheats there were different (Some super long input combination, where one needed a notebook, yeah and no save system, just a code and the end of every level).
I remember I played Doom (2, tnt, or plutonia) in cooperative with a friend. it was in 2001 or before, and as far as I remember we used the dos version of the game. we played using modems over telephone line. we were interested in using iddqd cheatcode, but it didn't work in the game directly. but we somehow got invulnerability to work (only for one of us). I think it involved saving the game, loading it offline, enabling the code, saving again, then resuming the online game loading the 'modified' savegame. I'm not sure about the above-mentioned procedure, it may have also required transferring the modified savegame to another player. if anyone can confirm it works, or share the exact way the cheatcode can be enabled in multiplayer, I'd be happy to know.

@@decino Thanks
I really love how much fun you had with this video. Your personal edits are stonking great.
I'm a little concerned that I immediately recognized the track at the beginning of the video
Things I learned from this video:
* the background story of IDCHOPPERS's popup text
* the actual text having lowercase letters but not being able to display them
* Berserk not actually being infinite duration
* IDCLEV game crashes (how did I never try this in 1996?!?!?!)
* the source code scrambling of the cheat codes themselves
Dad Decino: the dad we didn't want, but the dad we deserve
I am incredibly amazed that I am learning something about a game I was playing hundreds of hours nearly 30 years ago. I was contemplating all the texture, I was imagining a Hell culture/lore/universe, I was writing and drawing all my teenhood on this topic. And Today, near 2021, you still teach me stuff. Thank you so much.
IDKFA stands for "Keys, Firearms, Ammo" no?
Makes more sense.
you’re pretty much right
According to Romero, it's "kick fucking ass" lol.
It stands for I DON'T KNOW FLIP ALL
And here I was believing it to say "id Kills For America"!
Cheats. The best way to send all the demons to therapy sessions after you log out.😂
I found a tiny mistake you made (maybe others did as well, I went through the comments and did not see it mentioned though).
I've played Doom for 20+ years and I still remember almost all the cheat codes by heart. That's the sign of a legendary game.
Everybody gangsta until decino pulls out the yellow thumbnail
fun fact about the putrid debris cheat code, the alternative rock band Smashing Pumpkins actually acknowledged the name and in response used a Doom explosion sound effect in one of their songs, Where Boys Fear To Tread
Holy crap the list of patrons are huge now
Another thing worth mentioning is how "IDKFA" is also an achievement in DOOM 2016, which you may unlock only after getting every weapon upgrade. Great video, though!
Happy Ammo Cheat: *exists*
*Goth Gamers had left the chat*
Gotta say I love the production value that you're giving to your vídeos lately
One of the things I find most disappointing in the cheat codes is that there isn't one to give you the upgraded ammo capacity that you get from the backpack full of ammo. I'm playing The Ultimate Doom v1.9 in DosBox, and it only fills up my ammo to the current capacity. I was hoping to see something about that in this video, like maybe a cheat that _does_ increase ammo capacity, because when I'm cheating my way through, it's nice to minimize the amount of times I have to type "IDFA" to refill that BFG 9000. 😉
I believe Decino mentioned in the power ups analysis video that the backpack is the only item in the game that you cannot obtain via cheats
I'm very grateful for the use of music from MOCK 2
1:42 I did not expect that to happen
Edit: I think he said Killer F*cking Arsenal
I always thought "idkfa" stood for "I don't know fuck all" and that's why the cheat gives you all weapons/keys
That intro made me feel old :(
Two videos from you in one day is always exciting.
I laughed at the thumbnail looks like doom guy has the ability to pop guns out of his body lol.
3:38 pog doomguy
Finding out how the cheats were found in the first place was definitely the most interesting part. I always wonder about that stuff, and cool to learn that fans figured them out first!
0:28 Did the kid get Doom Eternal for his bday?
We may never know.
Love the way how Decino says "Cappabitch" *Every. Single. Time.*
Seriously, asmr to my ears.
Decino: "... interestingly, this cheat was added later in version 1.666, released when doom came out."
Me: "1.666?!"
*_Now we all know why Doom 2 has "Hell On Earth" at the end of it's name..._*
*doom II
@@ThatGreenLED Youre one of those people who spells doom as DooM aren't you?..
@@ManDudeMcHumanGuy Wait...
**Looks at other comments about doom**

1.666 was the original floppy disk release of Doom 2. The concurrent CD-ROM release was v1.7 instead.
@@ManDudeMcHumanGuy Well, as Decino said, doom font only has capital letters, WHICH MEANS THAT TRUE DOOM PLAYERS ONLY TYPE WITH CAPS LOCK ON!
No one:
Decino: Da-Vinki’s (Er uh i mean Pinkies)
The intro is just perfect 😂 also thanks for the code you use to pistol start. Super useful! Great video :)
4:41: So Bezerk only lasts for 1,420 days, eh? :D
This is actually more interesting than I thought, thanks decino!
Kind of funny that they created a little challenge to finding the cheat codes in the hex code.
0:59
Mancubus: "Take this Doomguy! No one can deflect the triple flame belch!"
Doomguy: "ZA WARUDOOO"
that intro skit should've run through the whole video
6:45 I died laughing :D
lol at all of those Snapple bottles. My man Dave Taylor needs to keep hydrated.
This video teaches a lesson: don't tell boomers about DOOM
?
@@expendableround6186 the joke at the beginning of the video states that the zoomer child of the boomer told the boomer about doom eternal, and the boomer starts ranting about doom cheat codes that is the video
I think its very obvious what "Very Happy Ammo Added" means: YOU are very happy that Ammo was Added!
I know I sure was!
"Very happy, ammo added!"
