      @@sdcoinshooter he isn’t a conspiracy theorist, strongly worded. But seriously, senetors and politicians are bought out so easily in the US by companies that continue to pollute the air we share in the name of profit. Just look it up…
      Side note: the reason air purifiers are needed for some even in countries or places where the air outside isn’t visibly polluted is that indoor air can accumulate airborne allergens over time like dust, mites, bacteria, mold spores, vocs, etc and particularly those who are more allergic can suffer the effects of indoor air pollution, indoor air is said to be up to 100x more polluted…

    Have you ever considered reviewing a vacuum that uses water as a form of filtration, such as Rainbow vacuums? My family has owned a rainbow vacuum for the past two decades and it still runs well with very little maintenance. Reliability aside, I am kind of curious to see how they would fare in your vacuum tests

    We bought a Coway Airmega 2 last year and have been extremely pleased. It is used in our bedroom and has really helped with our allergies. It has a wonderful sleep mode which turns off the indicator light in a darkened room and we can scarcely hear it running overnight. The design is more retro which suits our 1950's home perfectly.

    I'm really excited to see that you've started to do air purifier reviews and comparisons. I have followed your channel for several years and have used your reviews to inform purchasing decisions on multiple occasions. My wife and I have been debating between a more traditional HEPA filter-based purifier (The newer Wyze air filter) and one of the photocatalytic oxidation-based air purifiers (puraclenz). I'm a bit skeptical of the claims of the puraclenz but it is an interesting concept. Any chance either of those two air filters/purifiers are on your upcoming list?

  • @alextaylor8776

    Just bought one. You have to take off the plastic coverings on the filters of course but make sure when your putting the black filter back in that it is secure in its frame holder and that it “ snaps “ into place into the unit as the first time I did it and put the cover back on I felt something was wrong. Sure enough, the filter wasn’t snapped in its proper position. I fixed it and now it ok. Excellent review and I hope my unit works perfectly for me.

    I have one of these - or maybe its lookalike predecessor - that I got about 4 years ago and I love it. I leave the ionizer on - it doesn’t seem to generate any ozone and it causes particulates to fall out of the air and surround the purifier. Better on the floor than in my lungs. Even tho it costs about twice as much now as it did then it would still be my go to choice for an air purifier.

    I'd have loved to get more info on the quietest setting and it's effectiveness. I picked up a Levoit after the video you did with the battle a couple of months back, and even on the lowest setting it's very audible when trying to sleep so it's a bit disruptive. I suspect that might be down to the size of my bedroom where the only option is having the filter right by my bed, so maybe add a rating for how far away you need to have the filter away until you can't hear it as much?

    I bought one of these years ago when I developed severe allergies, and I couldn't afford an IQAir. What really cinched it for me is I left it running all day on high while my landlord was painting the apartment. When I left, there was a very strong overpowering latex paint smell. When I came home, there was NO SMELL at all. I expected there to still be some smell of some kind, but there was none, not unless I stood against the wall and really looked for it. I can be cooking or cleaning in another room down the hall, and I will hear it kick on to rev up its filtration.

  • @logicalparadox2897
    @logicalparadox2897 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Your reviews are great. But, when it comes to air purifiers… honestly, anyone can test particle filtration. It’s easy. And even a box fan with a high MERV furnace filter attached to it will do an OK job filtering out pollen, dust, etc.
    What is NOT easy is testing VOC filtration. I have gone done the rabbit hole on this. We purchased a Molekule and wanted to make sure it was working as advertised, so we also got an air quality monitor (AQM) to test it out. We returned the Molekule. We got a pair of Mila purifiers. They were nice! They had built in AQM’s and were “smart”. But we were early adopters and there were a lot of problems (inaccuracies, lack of obvious features, etc). We returned the Mila purifiers as well. We ended up with two Air Doctor purifiers (very popular amongst the Wellness community, and would love to see that one reviewed). They worked really well.
    But here’s the thing. Along the road, we ended up going through a whole bunch of different AQMs. Not just the home user kind, but even a couple from TemTop, which is what Wirecutter uses for their reviews. I devised a number of improvised tests to try and see if these expensive purifiers were actually doing what they claimed for the air in my home. Throughout this … journey… the biggest problem was always VOCs. It’s confusing even to try and measure. Most AQMs that say they measure total VOC (TVOC) don’t actually measure ALL possible VOCs as far as I can tell. Rather, they seem to have some subset of VOCs or classes of VOCs that they are designed to detect and measure. I really couldn’t figure out any way to verify, let alone even compare, how well any of these purifiers I owned performed when it came to VOCs. For that matter, I couldn’t even verify or compare the performance of the AQMs. One AWM would detect VOCs the others couldn’t and vice versa. It seemed like none of them ever had readings that were even close. You can’t compare the performance of an A/C if you don’t have a reliable thermometer.
    It’s been a couple of years. I’m mostly happy with my Air Doctors. Particle counts in my home are near zero most of the time if my windows are closed. But, if I cook, or clean, or buy new furniture, or if there were a problem with some kind of other source of VOCs in my home, I wouldn’t trust any purifier on the market to protect me, or even make much of a difference. Because I’ve been unable to observe a single instance from any of the products I’ve tried where that happened. I also wouldn’t even be confident that any of the several different AQMs I have throughout the house would alert me to it (and, if one did, I wouldn’t be sure it wasn’t a false positive).

  • @TheEntireUniverse
    @TheEntireUniverse ปีที่แล้ว +4

    We’ve had one of these running in our house continuously on medium speed for 2 years now, and it makes an appreciable difference in air quality. I do wonder if other purifiers might be faster at removing certain smells but we leave it next to the litter box to control the smell and dust, and it does so very well.

    Hey, I was thinking about getting a Mila air purifier since the company says they are close to finishing HomeKit support and rolling it out this holiday season. Of course I’ve seen reviews online but in my opinion you are the best reviewer and you are unbiased with everything you do. Do you think one day you might check that out? It looks really advanced and has multiple filter types and options and it think it would go well with the air purifier series on this channel!
    Thanks,

    For the price, its phenomenal. That's probably because Coway has some of the best research and development of any appliance company on earth. I saw a video of them showing the airflow of the purifier in a real size room using computers, its on their website. They have strict tests that abide by south Korean filtration standards which is also how their kn94 masks are tested in case of an outbreak, all civilians have something to protect themselves. They aren't the best purifiers on earth, but for their price id say they are.

    My roommate picked up 2 of these to make our apartment smell less (their cooking...). For smell, it very much was plecebo effect because I would leave for an hour and come back and things would smell... then would get used to it and think the smell was gone, leave for a few minutes, come back in and the smell was still there. They swore it smelled better though. Ignoring that, the unit looked good and I believe it did clean the air as it would automatically jump from fan 1 to fan 3 whenever the roommate cooked. They took the units when they moved out and my guests and family have noted how the apartment smelled a lot better.
    TL:DR - don't buy this for smell reduction, buy it to clean your air.

These filters do have a lot of charcoal granuals, so it appears you get what you pay for. The 300 & 400 don't have the ION button. Those air quality lights are quite accurate, in my experience. Even running an ultrasonic humidifier on the other side of the house will cause the indicator light to turn red and the fan speed to kick up to high. And several times when there have been forest fires, they've detected that before I can smell it. They are much cheaper than the IQ Air and still do a very good job.

    Any filters you can suggest that get 0.01? I ask since many people use 3D printers and don’t realize they need to be either using a fume extractor or filtering the environment around the machine while in operation. Lots of VOCs and nanoparticles get released while 3D printing and some materials emit more than others. Thanks

      Particles smaller than 0.3 microns travel in zig-zag patterns (called Brownian motion), and are captured by quality filter at 100% efficiency. 0.3 micron is commonly known as the "worst case".

    If I wanted a robot vacuum to clean dog hairs off my floor, not carpet, which would one would be best? I’m leaning towards the Roomba J7 but there’s so many out there it can get overwhelming

    I got a dozen vivosun branded hepa filters for 20 bucks each when they were discontinued.
    Charcoal is more of a gimmick in these than anything else, get a dedicated carbon filter if you're concerned with actual smell control.

    New sub. I took this exact air purifier apart to clean the front. When I did a very small metal piece or something almost like a magnet fell out and It has disappeared. Ever since then it hasn’t turned back on. I have no idea to have that small piece replaced. Anyone have any ideas ? I’m at a loss for words as to what to do!

    • @XxXnonameAsDXxX

      Just put a magnet to that place. Probably the machine detects the magnet to sense it is closed!

    I think ECO Mode is pronounced as "E"-co and not "Echo". But I don't like that the black is shiny piano black, that just shows fingerprints and scratches easily. And I don't want white. But companies need to start selling flat black products.
