Best review i have seen on that thing. Firstly, great job going into detail, told my landlord for best price to performance to get this air purifier and the filter cost isn't half bad either. You have to press that watts button a second time on your kill a watt (which I also own). Fans like air purifiers use require that VA watts (as listed on the Kill A Watt manual) to be accurate, switch to VA and that Coway till come close to it's 77watt max power draw as listed on the manual. Thanks for the review, it's cool to see someone go into detail. "The actual power for the fan, lags the voltge, and as such, it no longer is called Watts any more. Now it is call VA or VA.R". Could just add annotation with the Apparent power - The combination of reactive and true power measure in volt-amperes (VA) is... I learnt about reactive power via my apprentice electrical schooling, it is caused by the voltage being out of phase with the amps so Watts is not accurate, utility companies in Canada when they added the digital power meters it read the actual power and many people suddenly received much higher electricity bills.
I love the size, the fan sound, and how reliable they seem to be. I however, got 3 of them in this last week and all the filters had a sweet chemical smell emananting from them. got so bad in the course of 9 hours that it was stinging my throat, and caused asthma symptoms to flair up for the last few days. Turns out a lot of people have been complaining of the same thing online recently
@@MarshForLow don't get the Levoit. it's pretty anemic. this is much beefier and a good unit. just be warned the filters they've used post 2020 have a nasty chemical scent that many people are not happy with (it seems to be hit or miss)... you can buy 3rd party filters that are good though and avoid that. otherwise get the winix 5500-2 or the D360 (the D360 is the 5300-2 just without the ionizer, but the 5500-2 and the 5300-2 you can turn it off manually.). the Winix's are better unis imo, especially the 5500-2... I have 4 of the D360s (exclusive to HD) and they're very solid, and zero nasty smellls.
Oh, wow. When I was comparing it vs the winix 5500 to purchase recently, I didn't think about it gathering dust around the intake and enables particulates to get trapped around the ring. Which would have been a deal-breaker and am really glad that I got the winnys now. Yes that is plural, I bought two of them and am really liking em so far. I was torn between the two because the coway is also an excellent product and both have their advantages, but chose these for the fact that the carbon filter has pellets rather than sprayed on a textured mat like the coway.
I didn't find the link to buy the others talked about, but I have decided to get this one for our bedroom to try it out. You gave very good information and I really appreciate it. Thanks for sharing

Thank you for this vid you got yourself a sub. Also you really called it at the end, I've watched recent reviews of other products and still they recommend this.
best review video I've seen in a while. Nice to see how much it packs. I have a GermGuardian for 5 years now(!) and hardly a spec of dust on the hepa just a thin dust on the carbon filter.
Thanks so much for all this dope info ill go buy one after I'm done watching your video. I'm a new subscriber now you're awesome, informative , and entertaining. COWAY should sponsor you I was on the fence before watching this.
I have a Winix 5500-2 and it’s also an excellent air purifier that is pretty up to par with this unit. Though the Winix has a better carbon filter that is pellet based which is better at filtering odors and gases. The PlasmaWave as I will say is actually a better ionizer that emits dual polarity ions that create hydroxyls which breaks down pollutants rather than shooting them down from the air by making them heavier. It also doesn’t produce any ozone, there is a video on TH-cam that shows this
So... my Coway arrived. I was happy for your advice to unwrap the filters out of the plastic. So... I know you threw the manual away but I also discovered accidentally,(AND the manual confirms) if you hold the ionizer button for 3 seconds it turns off or on the giant blue light so you can sleep at night! 😁
Your approach is a bit unconventional , but it works for you dude. As others have stated, this is a great review. I feel like I've owned the unit and now know it's in and outs.
I used to be swapping resistors to dim down annoying lights but now ive just been sticking perfectly cut kapton tape over things. By applying several layers you can dim the blue light to barely visible and the other colors will still get through.
Every time I clean my Conway I pull up your great video. Just a thought - the little magnet in the top always seems to drop out. I look at it and can’t remember what it does each time until I plug it in and it doesn’t work. Maybe show the magnet and remind us (me) why its necessary. Its odd that it just drop out when you pull the front off. Thanks again for a great video and great instruction.
I wish I could edit this video without re-uploading it and starting over from scratch. You're right - that magnet tends to fall out, it's basically an interlock so that you can't power the Coway on without reinstalling the door. I've pinned someone's comment regarding caution with that magnet to the top though!
So, I ended up buying one of these after I watched your review and read a bunch of others, and I love it. Right out of the box, it was great. The one thing I noticed after-the-fact is that it has a Prop 65 Warning. Did this ever give you pause? I mean, I know basically Cali has determined that everything causes cancer and so we should all be warned accordingly, but certainly not every air purifier has this warning. As I'm thinking about buying a second one of these, I wondered whether you'd weigh in on this as a 3-year user. Thanks!
Point well taken on a product that is supposed to be good for your health. The problem with Prop 65 is it encompasses over a thousand substances, and it doesn't really say how much of said substance causes cancer, and how you'd be exposed. For all we know, we'd have to *eat* three Coways to risk cancer. Cali punishes severely for missing the label, so many manufacturers just slap it on to be safe. I'm not worried about it, the benefit of filtering out pollutants heavily outweighs the low risk of some Prop 65 substance that I'd have to put in my tea daily for two years before I'd develop a problem.
@@Bootstrappin Thanks for corroborating my initial opinion. That if I were planning to eat it, or perhaps wear it right next to my skin, or pet its bright white casing all day long, maybe I might be at a higher risk. But then, just the regular ol' unfiltered air kinda has a Prop 65 warning, too. Lol. Glad to have your take, humorous as ever.
Oh this is perfect for me then. I like using a night light so that blue light can double as my night light. The only possible issue is the carbon filter. Another video mentioned a pellet carbon filter was better at VOCs. This one uses a carbon sheet instead.
Blue light tricks the body into thinking it is daylight, and blocks melatonin production, so it should be avoided. The new models you can turn off the light by holding the ionizer button. Haven't personally had trouble with odors.
GG Been looking for an air purifier. Every time I see sunlight at home those tiny little dust particles come in to view. A Lot Of Them come into view. Currently on sale for 116.32 on Amazon 11/25/2019.
Again, thank you for your reply to my question. It was so helpful, thoughtful and thorough. Now I have set up the purifier, though not yet the co2 detector as you had suggested. I wanted to see if I could register any difference the purifier might make to our apt air.. Because the indicator light came on blue and stayed on blue, indicating that there is not pollution, I imagine it is not detecting any pollution. On eco mode this machine is quiet and seems only to use energy for the blue light. Also, to my distress, I find when it runs it gives off the unpleasant smell similar to that of the inside of an airplane. This makes makes me wonder what this machine, of all man made materials, (plastics of different sorts I imagine) might itself be off putting into the atmosphere of my little apt. already plagues, apparently with CO2. :( If you have any thoughts I would love to read them. . . items made of our polluting technology, using our polluting technologies to make them, purported to clean the pollutions they create. . . I am not at all sure today. Thank you.
In time, it should air itself out. And hopefully you didn't repeat my mistake of forgetting to remove the plastic wrapping of the filter inside the unit. I would like to stress an important distinction - I'm assuming that you're talking not about CO2 (carbon dioxide), but CO (carbon monoxide). Monoxide is deadly, so you should definitely be aware about the CO levels inside your home and keep the detector running. Also, the blue light on the Coway will *not* indicate whether there is CO present in the air - it can't detect gases, only things like dust and particles. I definitely hear you though, a unit designed to clean the air should not have any odors. It has been a couple of weeks, how is your situation now?

The PlasmaWave as I will say is actually a better ionizer that emits dual polarity ions that create hydroxyls which breaks down pollutants rather than shooting them down from the air by making them heavier. It also doesn’t produce any ozone, there is a video on TH-cam that shows this
One of the best reviews I have watched on YT & genuinely enjoyed every second of it. Thanks for sharing!
So... my Coway arrived. I was happy for your advice to unwrap the filters out of the plastic. So... I know you threw the manual away but I also discovered accidentally,(AND the manual confirms) if you hold the ionizer button for 3 seconds it turns off or on the giant blue light so you can sleep at night! 😁
That's awesome! Must be a new feature, I got all excited but didn't work on mine. Nice update.
Wirecutter update confirms that this is for the updated model. thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-air-purifier/
That a giant iPod shuffle you got there.
no words man except thanks.
I have same but in black color 5 years with it ,still working pretty good
Seriously, I loved this review!
Your approach is a bit unconventional , but it works for you dude. As others have stated, this is a great review. I feel like I've owned the unit and now know it's in and outs.
Interesting perspective, thank you!
Thank you for your thoughtful, thorough and helpful response!
I used to be swapping resistors to dim down annoying lights but now ive just been sticking perfectly cut kapton tape over things. By applying several layers you can dim the blue light to barely visible and the other colors will still get through.
Fantastic review. Appreciate you taking the time to make this.
This was a really informative review. You covered everything important.
Excellent review, I appreciate you going through all of the features, showing electrical usage and maintenance in such detail
Excellent review style I can understand (retired sailor) anyways best review I've listened to in a long time.
Nice video! Also, newer versions have the ability to turn off the blue air quality indicator light.
Noticed that on my second one I recently bought, great update!
The Best Cow-ay Review of all time ! mooooo !
@2:55 the exact same thing just happened to me, right down to "wow, the air is so fresh !"
Meanwhile, I, with my 400+ IQ, ran it that way for probably 3 months...
same here! hahaha
Such a good review!
Thanks I just ordered two. 😊
Brilliant! THIS is a review!
"Meanwhile...it's not doing jack shit"....That's the moment I did three things, Liked the video, subbed the channel and went to amazon and ordered it.
Thank you. A true and honest review!
This is a GREAT video. Thanks so much for the cleaning tips. Taking stuff apart & reassembling is a challenge for me.
You got this! Happy to help.
I was thinking of getting a coway up until I watch this video! So much simpler to clean the Winix range.
👍

Perfect review thank you man!
Got this a few days ago and can confirm that it now has very clear yellow stickers on it to tell you to unwrap the HEPA filter 😂
10/10 review
11:47 The one I just got, if you hold down the ION button for 3 seconds it turns off the air quality light.
@@StephaneeK I do highly recommend for you to pet it, it likes that.
@@Bootstrappin 😄
Great job! best review on TH-cam.
You're very kind, thank you!
LOL. I love the way you talk.
Haha thank you
I have to agree with the others in saying what an awesome review!!
Perfect review! Thank you!
I agree. Great review. thanks
GG Been looking for an air purifier. Every time I see sunlight at home those tiny little dust particles come in to view. A Lot Of Them come into view. Currently on sale for 116.32 on Amazon 11/25/2019.
Yeah, it's a nice quality of life improvement. And damn, at that price it's tempting to pick up a second one.
Thanks for this! A really huge help
You're welcome!
Brilliant review!
Thank you!
best review ever!
Thank you!
great review!
An excellent, excellent video.
This review was awesome. Thank you. Lol.
great review. Very comprehensive.
@@gordonkobayashi4415 thank you!
Hey btw if you hold the ionizer button for three seconds, it should shut off the light (although maybe that's only on the later models)
Yes that seems to be the case, doesn't work with mine. Great feature!
Awesome review!
