Both were getting something out of the marriage and it wasn’t love for either of them. I’d be surprised if each didn’t realize that. It was a transaction. Jackie got wealth and protection and Aristotle got to thumb his nose at polite society that always looked down on him.

Jacqueline Onassis was a well known " fortune chaser". JFK left most of his money in trust to Caroline and John ( about 10 million/ Jacqueline was dependent on the Kennedys after JFK died). The Onassis Marriage was an opportunity , that worked out well for the former US First lady! Aristotle Onassis tried to leave her only $200,000 per year when he died. That was to be paid by the Onassis estate ( Christina would have been the overlord). Jacqueline and Teddy Kennedy fought to get Jacqueline a 25 million dollar payout.
That monstrous payout in 1975,gave Jacqueline financial freedom (that would be 100 million in 2022 dollars/the time value of money). Jacqueline, Caroline and John lived on easy Street after Jacqueline got her payout from Christina Onassis! Caroline ( appointed Ambassador to Australia by President Biden) has had a very privileged, and exceptional life. She is the Ambassador to Australia as of July 2022 ( she was the Ambassador to Japan under President Obama)!
I guess the toad wasn't so bad after a $25 million payout.

Actually a number of Americans did feel disappointed when Jacqueline married him but a lot of us came to understand later why she needed to have access to that kind of financial power and she did not want to be under the thumb of Rose Kennedy .
Sally Quinn did what Jackie did but on a smaller scale. Except Onasis was already divorced from his wife Bradlee was not. 🤔

the other reason why Jacki knew that Onassis could protect her, is because he was an "elite" and a world rich man. he also had criminal ties and Mafia ties. he had as much power as Rockefeller. Read the book about her, her mom, and her sister entitled Jackie, Janet, and Lee. Her mother raised them to value wealth and prestige. Lee had an affair with Aristotle before he married Jackie. Marrying Aristotle gave Jackie wealth and when Jackie died she didn’t leave Lee a dime.
But was her sister Lee doing really well when Jackie died ?

He shipped oil for some of the wealthiest Arabs in the Middle East! The emirs of United Arab Emirates, Qatar , and Bahrain used his ships. I am quite sure that Persians also used his tankers to ship oil across the oceans!

Aristotle Onassis may have been considered attractive to someone like Maria Callas but believe me , a lot of Americans did NOT consider him attractive ... especially not after JFK .

But later on some of us did come to understand that she did not want to be controlled by Rose Kennedy and she needed to have financial power .
What she found attractive about Onassis' life was his power and his financial power and the fact that he often entertained some of the most glamorous people .
