Quite literally, I gasped out loud in shock when I saw those so called "assorted garden vegetables" appear. However, the following segment with "Linzi ~ destroyer of desserts", more than made up for the shock, haha ! Gracias !
Ha ha ha. They were shocking those veggies. But you can always rely on us to destroy desserts. New Suite Nature Merch “ Destroyer of Desserts” 🤣 coming soon 😉 Linzi and Mark
Thanks for your review. I was excited to consider this, a French restaurant, which we have no access to where we live, and the price on board the Discovery Princess is now $10 more than what you paid!
Thanks for the comment DJT. We were really looking forward to it, for much the season reason, and we've never been so disappointed at a restaurant before. As we said in the review, we have had worse food, but never been more let down. Even worse now they've increase the price. Have a lovely day, Linzi & Mark
Hello guys, thanks for posting - we enjoyed watching it! It seems as though you had a similar experience to us, and were left with the same confused impression. The presentation of dishes was bizarre, as were the interpretations of dishes - like fish fingers on a napkin for fish & chips hmmm. Can't believe how basic those peas and carrots look - not a million miles off from a school dinner really. Hope you enjoyed the other dining venues onboard :)
Thanks Dan and Jay, it definitely didn't live up to our expectations and as you said just some bizarre choices of food interpretation. Those little veg were the opposite of fine French dining. We still laugh at the thought of them. The other venues were much better, thankfully. Linzi and Mark
Ah, I'm glad to see you reviewed this - we actually didn't do this on Discovery Princess. I'm always 'turned off' by a restaurant where people walk past the table going about their night - feels odd for Speciality!
Thanks Fraser. We have sat in other restaurants on other ships (Anthem & Ventura springs to mind) where people walk right past you, or through the tables, but for a higher priced speciality it seemed such a odd design choice for Princess. Linzi & Mark
I totally agree with your review. We did Bistro sur la Mer on Sky in June, and was really disappointed. I was also disappointed with Crown grill on that trip, we had done Crown grill on Regal and it was excellent. We also did Sabatinis on this trip and am pleased to say it was even better than when we visited on Regal(which was great). In future just Sabatinis for me if I do speciality dining. Great video as always. 👍
Thanks Lorraine. As we said, it was just so disappointing. Alarm bells started ringing when the waiter basically refused to let Linzi order the Red Snapper. It doesn’t give you much confidence when they don’t want you to order something on the menu. It was made even worse on that cruise as we love Sabatini’s but despite trying constantly we couldn’t get in. Crown Grill though was much better on Enchanted than our previous experience. For us on Princess we would just got to Sabs and Crown Grill. At least until some new speciality opens. Thanks again for watching and getting in touch. Linzi and Mark
I had a few cruises on Princess and a couple more in 2023, and I always skipped Bistro Sur La Mer just because I thought the menu is not attractive. Thank you for experiencing Sur La Mer, so I will not have to! Did you like Crown Grill?
You are very welcome for us experiencing it for you 😂 Yes we've been to Crown Grill and you can see it here th-cam.com/video/yzirpiPu0_Y/w-d-xo.html It was a much better experience than Sur La Mer Thanks for watching and have a lovely day, Linzi and Mark
We were on in June , also really looking forward to this restaurant, really disappointed with the food ☹️ Thank you for your review, not just us then.🙂
100% agree with your comments...........even if it had been part of the cruise fare, it would have been disappointing. Mediocre food ...... apart from the appetisers. No wine menu....huh? We ate early and had a window table....which was fab, but other seating areas were very poor. Service was so slow for us...1½hrs and still no dessert menu....walked out and went to the International Cafe for desserts. The waiter was an arrogant arse!......
Thanks G H, oh no, your experience, if anything sounds maybe even worse. At least for us, the staff were good. But it is such a shame. If Princess didn't build it up so much or if it wasn't a speciality at $29 a piece I think they would get away with it more, but it's not, and they shouldn't get away with it. We ate quite early too (about 6.40) and there was loads of window tables, but they stacked us all near the pathway, I guess to make it look busier. Hopefully we will see a reinvention or change to the Bistro soon. It says a lot, when it was the only speciality on board that you could get a reservation for every day. Crown and Sabatini's had sold out for the whole cruise. Thanks for checking out the review, and letting us know your thoughts too. Have a lovely day, Linzi & Mark
oh nooooo Linzi and Mark. You know, I have never heard a good review of this restaurant. I have heard lots of amazing expectations ( like yourselves ) , but never a good outcome. I have thought about it a few times, and thought maybe give it a go next week when we go on Sky, but, you have reminded me that its just not a good idea lol. And those veggies...OMG!!! I think they have got the star system confused somewhere along the line lol..I wonder if its some local star system like MICHAEL star, as opposed to the renowned Michelin hahaha The only think ive had in Sur La Mer, was coffee and tea, as when it was closed for food, they used it as an extension to the piazza / international cafe when that was full. I did laugh at points in your review lol - but, Im not sure why because, when you look forward to something sooo much, and realise that maybe even the buffet may have been a better option, its more than a little disappointing lol. I have a question - have you ever sailed with NCL? im asking because my sone and his girlfriend went on a cruise last month with his mum, it was his partners first ever cruise, and she loves it. Its her birthday in October, so my son has booked another NCL cruise for them on the star, and Im trying to find out from others what its actually like, as we could go with them if I thought we would like it? Hope you are both well my lovelies Terry x
Hi Terry, lovely to hear from you. It was not the best experience this and it sounds like using Sur La Mer for a coffee area is a better experience. Lol. We are with you on the Michael Star system. We genuinely just sat here laughing out at that comment. We’d definitely pass on this Terry. Sabatini’s. Big Yes. Crown Grill. Big Yes. Sur la Mer. Big No. On NCL. Yes we’ve been on them and enjoyed it. More in common with the likes of Royal Caribbean, MSC or Carnival. Loads to do, big entertainment and partying late into the nights. We do plan on doing the new Prima class as soon as we can. So we would say NCL is worth checking out but very different experience to Princess or Virgin. Hope all is okay with all of you. Linzi and Mark
Thank you for the review....ate at the bistro 2 weeks ago and it was the worst food i've ever had on a ship! the lobster bisque was bland and the two muscles were hard and not edible. the escargot in the panko was bland and dry....who wants snails with no garlic and butter??? the waiter urged me to try the filet mignon - and i had to send it back!!! i don't understand as it;s hard to wreck a filet - but this was dry and tough! they brought me some scallops which were nice. the dessert was sort of standard. All in all, a huge waste of money, as the food in the dining rooms was really good.
I did have a laugh but such a shame you expectations weren't met. I do find it odd that there is a public thorough fare going through the restaurant which spoils a romantic evening. It was nice to see you both could laugh about your experience x
You’ve got to laugh 😂 It was a real shame, but we a good time regardless, and laughed throughout. And it has given us some memories to cherish even if it wasn’t for the reasons we’d have thought. Linzi and Mark
A swing and a miss, do you think the chef who has his name attached to the restaurant is aware of what is being served. It lands on the people on the ship who makes the call to serve those meals. We were on a ship once that it was difficult to find a good meal on board, later that year we traveled on it's sister ship and the food was excellent. In that situation we believe it was the manager in charge on the food was responsible. Great live chat this morning, looking forward to seeing Mark in his tux, you sure no Top Hat. Cheers
Yep swing and a miss for this one. But we’ve gone to other restaurants in the past with low expectations and had amazing times and food. You just never know for sure, no matter the reputation or expectations. It’s never the best start though Steve when a waiter refuses to let you order a dish 🤣 that was a first for us. It could well be the manager or exec chef on board, or just a menu that doesn’t work. Even the bread was a bit rubbish (we forgot to say that). Thanks for joining the live Steve, it was great to have you there. And as for the top hat. Really don’t see that happening anytime soon. Have a lovely day Steve, Linzi and Mark
@@SuiteNatured Also the constant parade of people checking out what is going on must be uncomfortable, at least they didn't pick food off the table to sample, they probably were charged for the tour. As always it has been fun to see you both again. Cheers
Some of them did have uncomfortably long stares at peoples food and we did joke that someone was going to ask for a taste before long. They didn’t. At least not while we were there. Thanks for joining in the live Steve. Linzi and Mark
We are glad we cheer you up Stu 😉 Whilst the meal was not great, and we obviously don't recommend spending $29 to experience it. We did create new memories that an "normal" restaurant experience probably wouldn't have given us, and lots of laughs. Linzi & Mark
That is a fair comment Brodie, although we'd add London to that list too, as there are some amazing French restaurants there too. Just don't expect it at Bistro Sur La Mer. Linzi & Mark

@@SuiteNatured totally agree - I much prefer a completely sectioned-off speciality restaurant!
We are cruising on Enchanted Princess in March 2023 and they raised the price to $39 per person.
Wow. $39. That is a lot for that particular restaurant. If you do decide to try it let us know what you think when you get back. Linzi and Mark
