I ate there a few months ago and I have an almost identical review. I had the oxtail entree instead. The drink vibe is exactly like you described, the service was similar for me… but the bone marrow dish was next level good. Nice accurate review.
Thank you! I appreciate it! Yeah, that bone marrow was amazing! The oxtail sounded good too. I was definitely impressed with the food, but the service was the most notable fault. Still, it was a good dinner!
Loved the uniqueness of this episode. As well as what I’d call it’s reality. Unrelated, I’m amazed your beforehand prep for such an amazing meal is by savoring a coffee and pastry. It must be my age (82), but were it me, the prep would have involved an early martini. James, many thanks. R.
Thanks for the excellent video. I know you also do your own editing, voice-over and filming and camera work. And good taste in background music. Were you able to visit the Rijksmuseum and see Rembrandt's "Night Watch" masterpiece? The Kroller Muller museum is also outstanding, outside Amsterdam. I remember also seeing a Van Gogh Museum, near the Heineken Brewery in Amsterdam. So many wonderful sights, not just coffee houses and Sh*T
Thank you so much! Yeah, I went to the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum. I enjoyed both of them a lot! I'm a big fan of Van Gogh so seeing that museum was really special to me. I never got to the Kroller Muller museum unfortunately, but hopefully next time. I really enjoyed Amsterdam and found that the city offers a ton!
I used to travel there quite a bit. Its where I discovered Indonesian food and Turkish food. Hard to find either of the two at the same level of quality in NYC as Amsterdam.
@@Jamesnu Good Turkish food is hard to find in New York. In fact Queens lost two good ones. Indonesian food in NYC tends to be too spicy whereas not as much in Amsterdam.
Great video James. Yeah, the bone marrow dish looked amazing and weird at the same time! Too bad about the service towards the end. I also heard the service can be lousy at times!
Thank you! Yeah, that bone marrow was amazing and is a very eye-catching dish! Indeed, it was a little frustrating at the end of my dinner, but thankfully the food was so good it made the experience worth it!
Dude…1 hour just for check??? You have patience! I would have lost it after about 25-30. Food looked absolutely delicious. I agree that bone marrow with mushrooms..omg..
That bone marrow looked amazing! I'm a big fan of duck as well. However, the hour wait for the check isn't tolerable. I often dine solo, from small neighborhood spots to Michelin Star restaurants (I ate at Per Se solo because no one wanted to go😂😂) so I have found that it's easier to get overlooked. With that said, I'm even more critical about service.
I know what you mean. A lot of my friends just aren't into food as much as I am, but I don't let that stop me from going to a restaurant if it interests me. Yeah, I definitely feel that one can get overlooked more often as a solo diner, but still, the service should always be attentive no matter the size of the party.
I know what you mean! I really liked the look of the place. The warm lighting and atmosphere gave it an inviting and comfortable feel. And yes, that bone marrow was amazing!
The food here is great! Before they also served a sort of croquete with a bit of brains, delicious. The service is quite bad and I also didn't like the portion size there, the bone marrow with two pretty big pieces of toast is just way too much for a mid course. The servers act and look like every other cafe on a corner, slightly hungover and not very "fresh". For your next visit I recommend Rijks, it's the absolute best.
Yeah, the food there was some of the best I had during my trip! That croquet sounds amazing! I just really appreciated their whole menu. Thanks for the recommendation! I actually wanted to go there, but I unfortunately wasn't able to get a reservation.
Yeah, I was upset, but I knew going into the restaurant that the biggest complaint I've seen about it has been their service. Thankfully, the food was fantastic!
How muuuuuuuch it was the bill?! Stop with the bone and give us details😂 Typical Dutch lame service letting you wait 1 hour to pay... ignored completely ^^
It was 105 euros, which was expensive, but at least it was less than what I would probably pay in NYC. Yeah, the service was frustrating and what I read on Yelp and Google reviews is that others had similar complaints. Thankfully I really enjoyed the food, which is always the most important factor for me.
Thank you for your honesty! And thank you for letting us join you on this adventure. This channel is so special to me.
Thank you! That really makes me happy to hear!
You should be a testimonial for new dishes in Michelin starred cuisine. Absolute fun to watch.
Haha! Thank you! I really appreciate it!
Waiting over an hour for the bill? I would have walked right the fuck out.
Yeah, it was frustrating!
I now know where to go if I have a craving for bone marrow if I ever find myself in Amsterdam!
That bone marrow was perfect!

Thanks for this video Bro. Ive never been to a Michelin starred restaurant in my whole life. Feels like Ive been from your videos. Stay Safe alwys.
Thank you! I appreciate it! I hope you get the chance sometime to try a Michelin Starred restaurant. It's an incredible experience!
@@Jamesnu I will Bro.

Yeah, I heard that the Indonesian food in Amsterdam is excellent. I just wish I had more time there to experience it.

That bone marrow, Oh My God!!!! 🤣🤣 Love it👍
Absolutely! That bone marrow was something really special!
Watching you eat is just yummy!
Thank you!
The New Yorker is impatient for the dessert and check. 😆 No one puts James in the corner!
Haha! You would think that the restaurant would want their money as soon as possible, but at least the food was really good!

Great video.
Thank you so much!!
The cocktail 🍹 could have been in a different glass I think that would have made the difference
Definitely! The glass it was in completely overwhelmed the amount of liquid inside it.
this restaurant rather looks like a library haha I love bone marrow too :D!!

This guy loves him some bread
It was good bread!
brother, you should have just gotten up and asked someone for the bill instead of sitting complacently that long
I should've, but because of where I was sitting, it wasn't that easy.
@@Jamesnu certainly easier than sitting for an hour?
