    Nice. All of my bolts and nuts where 18mm. Love how they always change small stuff like that through production

    Noticed that the new shock appeared much smaller in diameter? Seen similar company's cut corners like this to keep cost down... my question is hows the ride quality?

    I have a 97 f150 4x4 and i do not have the access hole in the frame that you point out at the 54sec mark of the video. Oh how i wish i did. the threaded stud and nut at the top of the old shock is rusted together. vitually no room to access top nut. 14" vicegrip wont hold the polished shaft tight enough to break the nut. help

      Snap it off. Doing what these people are saying will take days in a home shop. Or for your case you can’t get to it

    Is there a torque spec for top/ bottom or just as you said until the top stops and then just crank it down on the bottom?

    Ha! Kenda Klevers! Great tire for a great price! Haven't seen very many truck owners run 'em.

    I feel like a lot was edited in the removal of the top nut... I cut mine off at the rubber. Not fun. But ride 10 times better. Northeast 🚚. if only the guy before me replace them while the bed was off

    So my 03 came with Rancho RS5000 shocks- do I have to put those back in (possibly oem lift?), or can I just put in any shocks? Just looking to replace for safety reasons and not spend a ton of money.

    👍 good job & thx however, @ 3:45... Replaced? Get a hammer & pry-bar- it’s hi strength steel, stuff gets bent in/on/underneath a truck!

    What if the lower part of shock won't go in to bolt it?

  • @rogue3095

    This video does not really apply to the 97s. Not sure when they made the changes to the rear frame but i know for a fact that my early 97 does not have the access holes in the frame. and top bolts are 18s.

    Does the 2003 f150 7700 take same shocks?

    I have a 2003 SuperCrew F-150 is there a reason why the right rear shock has two different mounting positions one for in front of the axle and for behind the axle when I first got the truck the right rear shock was over the axle facing the engine but now I switched it to over the axle facing the rear????

    • @kitcarson6806
      @kitcarson6806 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The right rear needs to have the top of the shock leaned toward the front of the pickup.
      The left rear needs to have the shock landed toward the rear of the pickup.

    As for the upper mount... if you've an overly stubborn nut do you have a last resort kinda procedure suggestion? Technique?

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +BradlyJ03 We would suggest using some penetrating oil and letting it sit for quite a while to break up any corrosion. 1aauto.com

      @@1AAuto finally managed. Took some effort. Couldn't get anything to grip. Ended on a pipe wrench.

    the rebound on that new shock is INSANELY too low, that is a defective shock

    How many people out there have a lift to raise their vehicle so they can perform this shock replacement??? Get real! Show us how to do it if you have to do it on the ground, in the dirt, and if you're lucky, on a concrete pad. That's why we come to 1A Auto! Otherwise we would take it to a shop and have someone do it for us!

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Poprocks4u Lifting the vehicle makes it easier for our video crew to film the repair. Of course, we understand the vehicle does not have to be lifted to complete the repair.

      Aren't you a whiny little biatch. It's the same shit on jack stands, you're just sitting on the ground instead of standing upright

      for anyone else that may need. there are no oem or related parts for replacing the mount itself not even from ford directly. you must get an aftermarket, built or fabricated one to replace the old one and weld on. that is at least for the 98

      Hammer and pry bar as previously mentioned. The steel mount is very forgiving, so don't be afraid to out some @$$ on it when you swing the hammer.
