It really needed the scales to apply to the note keypad like the Minibrute 2S. With how similar their sequencers and note adjustment pots were, I thought they were the same but sadly not the case.

can you load your own sounds into the sequencer or only what it can produce on its own?
allaboutNDIRISH It doesn’t produce ANY sound on its own. There is no internal synthesizer, and no speakers or audio outputs. Even the metronome sound is merely a midi note send that must be generated by an external synth, sampler, or computer (running a VST, DAW, etc.). It is not a standalone product. It’s meant part of a larger setup - but having said that, you can get pretty streamlined these days, with just an iPad, the BeatStep, and a camera connection cable.

Most 'tutorials' or 'demos' are really just dodgy sales videos. This video is a true tutorial - and it will probably make me buy the device!

Wish Akai did tutorials with their more expensive MPC Live like you guys go in depth with your sequencer. This was explained so well!

Does it just play percussive notes? Or can you play any length of notes? Does the keystep pro play varied note length better?
I'm late to the party, but I just ordered one today. Can't wait to get my hands on this. Say...it may be covered in an update but is there a way to "sequence" or record rolls or ratchets, instead of just playing them live? Either way, phenomenal gear here, way to go Arturia!
i got one of these. ive had an arturia minibrute for years and have to say its very durable and hled up great
Is it possible to make the tuning so its more loose so I can get inbetween the notes? I'm trying to emulate the Moog 960 how each knob/step can be tuned by ear.
So awesome that you used a double shakkas to describe slide.
Just wish all this functionality was in the original BeatStep, even just the touch sensitive knobs and screen make this a much more playable sequencer.
We should have the possibilty of sequence 3 or 4 instruments in each melodic sequencer. Ex, doing sequence in channel midi 1, then change to another midi channel, for example midi channel 2 and the sequence of the midi channel 1 will continue. If the channel if already occupied by another sequencer(midi) in the choosing midi channel option it will have a red color or something like that since midi only have 16 channels.
In this moment we can only use one instrument in each sequencer which is limiting. Do that to next update in the firmware if possible.
And choose between monophonic and polyphonic in each melodic sequencer. To play chords for example. We cant. We can do it in the drum sequencer but then no drums.
It will make the BST a beast.

Can I rec 2 diff sequence with the same synth? And if my synth as a sequencer in it "minifreak" does it mean I can play up to 3 sequence total?

Can one sequence be double the length of the other? Let's say I have a drumloop 4/4 and i want to throw in a synth riff that's 32/32, is this possible?
Great product I think there’s no comparison in versatility and price. I use Rene 2 sequencing mid to high range frequency melodies into very effected grooves....and with beat step doing the main drum rhythms and bass sequences can get sonically interesting quickly

Hello :) I really dig my BSP, but could someone please help me understand how to save all my patterns to my computer. And then transfer them back to the beatstep pro? The maunal confuses me, Iv tried dragging and dropping to no avail and using the the recall and store to scares the hell out of me as I lost a pattern doing this. Please help :)
How come when i make a melody, and then i make some drums i can hear the sounds of the melody when press a pad on my drum sequence??
Would be nice if it could record when you change the octave...

Is it a polyphonic sequencer? I mean, can u record chords? Second question: is it possible to connect an external midi keyboard, play stuff and redirect it to a midi connected synth? :)
it's not a polyphonic sequencer but it sends polyphony when played, so you CAN play chords via midi and then record them with whatever program you're working with. it only sequences 1 note per step tho...
still i found that usefull to me, since i'm not really a keyboard player :) ...but you're limited to only 1 octave tho....

You can assign the drum sequencer to midi notes in the software. You then have 16 note polyphony on One channel
@ 24:20 you transpose the machine. Is this possible to record into the BeatStep Pro? Would be cool if I want to use it straight with hardware.

Hello, im havin an issue with the device where on picth mode for seq 1 and 2, it doesn’t go past the pitch F*3, is it possible to go to higher pitches with the device??

Hello, I'm having an issue: when I record some sequence ,let's say in Sequencer 1, and I try to put another sequence on top of that, for ex in Sequencer 2, it keeps playing the same information that I just recorded on the previous one, but with the sound of the new Sequencer. You did that in 18:04 and it went well. I 've tried everything with no success. What am I doing wrong ? Thanks a lot

Where do the actual tones themselves derive from? Are they local to the unit, or or they input from your synth plug-in on your DAW?
Plugin. Theres no tones built in. Its a sequencer only.

at the video u tell they are push encoder - but at my BeatStep Pro are normal encoder and the function for the notes at the sequencer is "knob-pitch and than direct to rotated the encoder - is this right " i don't have any push function at the encoder
Considering getting one. Can sequences change automatically, like a song mode? Also, as far as drums go, let's say I'm using an electron machinedrum. How would that integrate? And if I connected them so that they share clock, and had a chain of changing sequences going on the machinedrum, would there be a way for the beatstep to trigger changing sequences in sync with the machine drum? so arturia couldnt throw in an internal metronome-klick, you have to provide the soundsource for that aswell. Thats a bit stingy if u ask me. Also it would be good if the knobs lighted up in correspondens to the steps, so you see what steps are acitivated. I turn the wrong ones all the time.

Yes. I think you mean shift + seq + from-to number (steps = sequences)
What’s the best app to use with it for melodies for iPad? Should you use the i spark program? What is recommended?
Great video, I have a simple question. It's possibile to change the pitch on the Beatstep in Octave C-2 and C-1 when I do the sequencing? because in my Beatstep, if I don't use the Midi Control Center in the computer, the pitch arrives at maximum C-0 ????

I could get extra BSPs, but I'm rather sure I'd often mute the wrong track...
8+1 song track for the BeatStep and Keystep would be perfect and would dominate the market.
Even better if the KS came in 49 or 61 key format. More room for displaying track data and banks of assignable knobs for each channel.
great tutorial ! I was wondering how you can set the drum sequence toa vst and sequence 2 to a vst and,lets say, sequence 1 to trigger a hardware synth...and play all the at the same time?? How would i go about doing that?

How do you automate pattern and sequence changes? Like 4 x patt 1, 4 x patt 5, 2 x patt 10, 1 x patt 5. I looked through the manual and I'm not seeing anything on this.
Ryan Jones we are considering a pattern chain type of function but it was not really designed to have a SONG Mode. We are also considering having it receive program change info so that you could change patterns on each sequence remotely.

Glen Arturia I just bought a BSP and am really enjoying it. I don't care about song mode but pattern chain would be really great. 4 bar loops are good but 8> would be so much better.
I get that I can choose the scale. But how to set the key. So that all notes are in F# min for instance.

When you use the Arturia pro with other hardware it should negate the use of a computer.
And that's what some of us old school heads actually prefer.

with the shift we can select the mode scale but can we select the scale? because by default is in C. In the minibrute2s sequencer we can select the scale too but here I can t find the setting. Is there any way, and please don t say mcc because It s not useful in the middle of a project. Thanks a lot for the video and machines

nice, but how do i step sequence a 48 or 64 steps long melody-sequence , step by step and not live ? Like the famous sequence on ABBA's " Gimme, gimme , gimme " song that later was re-used by Madonna in her song " Hung Up " ? I still do not fully understand how to do that ?
I think you do it whilst sequence is stopped, using the arrow keys to switch between banks (of 16 steps..i.e. 1-16; 17-32 etc)
Can the drumtrack also be used to hook up to a synth, or can it only be used to sequence drums? Not sure about that. So basically: can I sequence 3 synths / sounds with this thing? Or only 2?

I want to use the microbrute via CV but when I try i only get very high pitched sounds..dont know whats wrong....could it be the 3,5 mm stereolead instead om mono-ones?

Hi, I saved the pattern on the BSP and when I got to store on the midi control Center after mapping, the pattern in the BSP goes away and I loose everything, can you explain me please how to fix it

I don't have any synths with cv connection, I have a Roland Gaia and an Electribe by korg. can I hook up by midi connection to both and have beatstep sequence them via midi.
+Jeffry Tessier Yes but you will need to split the midi using a thru box of some kind. There's only one midi out on the BSP - I'm sequencing my TR8, TB3 and System-1 from the single midi out on the BSP using an IConnectMIDI4 to split the midi (the IConnect is total overkill for my/your needs btw). The MIDI Solutions quadra thru box seems the best for buy to do the job.
Are you really using an iPad charger? That's 12volts... Does this makes it more stable?

Hi. I'm considering getting a Beatstep Pro and just wondering one thing, can I record a sequence of notes using the pad (as demo'ed around 6.10) but lock the pads to a specific key/mode like you can do with the knobs just so any pad I press will be in key? Thanks
yes , once you put your desired scale the pads are locked to that scale just like the knobs. - I got one like 3 weeks ago, total game changer highly recommended tbh
