      I have to say this I bought a beautiful mojito elephant ear from nursery soaking wet. A leaf died then another in 1 week. I repotted beautiful white roots. It grew 2 new roots the next week then declined. I dug it up all of those beautiful roots gone in 1 week. Nursery gave me a new plant. I cut off all brown roots some white roots and I put it in water with a large amount of peroxide and kept changing water and adding peroxide. Low and behold a new leaf and about 20 new roots sprouting. Woo hoo

    I find that the Heartleafs, Brazils, Rios, all are prone to rot. They tend to somehow create wet zones that the moisture meter misses.

    Thanks for sharing! I've had a hard time finding a video showing me the difference between rot and healthy root instead of just telling me and having to interpret the difference. Super helpful to someone who worries about over watering all the time!

    Next time, before you put your cuttings in water to propagate, to avoid the cut section to constantly rot, you can leave your plant out overnight for that cut section to callous.

    Whenever I’m scared of root/stem rot in water propagation, I put them in separate jars, just to make sure healthy roots/stems don’t get affected by the rotten ones!!

    You can put pinch of zeolite to water for water propagation. Zeolite is part of lechuza pon, and keeps the water clean. Some people also dip the cut-end to 3% hydrogen peroxide which eats up dead tissues prior to water propagation.

    Erica, did you wash the roots with dish soap or treat it with Hydrogen Peroxide? Root rot is a fungus infection so you have to treat it with more than water. Maybe you could have left the cuttings for a few hours to scab over before you put them into water?

    My Rojo Congo I've had since early September has grown 1 full beautiful new leaf since. Another new leaf was start to unfurl in this past week, but today I notice it's fallen over. Not the stem but just the leaf. It's dark too.
    I've had it in a nice aeroid soil mix. I wait until at least the top 2 inches are dry before watering. But about 3 weeks ago I gave it enough water that the largest leaf was dripping water for a day. The next time I gave it less water, and that was 4-5 days ago.
    All the other stems and leaves look normal. Should I just cut the one new leaf and use some hydrogen peroxide mixed into the water, or do I need to repot too?

    • @Sabrina-qg5tk
      @Sabrina-qg5tk 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    hi do you have a movie here about a totally dry out philodendron brasil, with very large stems,
    I saved it from my bad caring neighbor, he give me the plant,...
    I wil try to save him, I have watering it like a orchid, to suckitup from bottom, a little bit.
    the leafs looks all yellow, with some dark green, but the leaves looks rimpled, also the large rankels stems, but they have soo many little new nodes, I don't want to cut him, an start from rooting, leavenodes...
    please can you give advice what the best way is to save this georgious..

    • @ErikaLodes
      @ErikaLodes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had my philodendron like this also, but I had to cut it because the base of the stems were dried out so it wasn’t connected to roots anymore. If the stems aren’t completely dried out, then just watering it consistently will revive it in time. Bottom watering is good 👍🏼
