- This video explains the process for growing bluebonnets at home.
Here in central Texas we face many challenges, but nothing grows as easily as the native Bluebonnet. These beautiful flowers take a year or two to grow, but it is well worth the wait. If you want to grow your own personal bluebonnet meadow, get started here.
Recently I've done an interview about growing these wildflowers at home with KUT - Austin's NPR station, you can read it here: www.kut.org/austin/2024-04-18...

Love this!! We moved to TX in 2022 and can't wait to buy (in non HOA) and then I'll plant bluebonnets in our yard! Someone else in our HOA 'hood has them in their front yard and looks great!
My new HOA hasn’t said anything about them, but my HOA at my old house was really upset in June when I had a bunch of tumbleweed bluebonnets that had gone to seed in front of my house
I did not even plant them, they just showed up and took over my yard lol yours are gorgeous!
They are always a welcome addition, when I was a boy we had some primrose that invaded our yard this way. My dad would always mow around them
Thank you for the video! My husband and I want to plant bluebonnets in our front yard when we own a home.
Thanks for watching! It’s fun and easy to do, I’ve found that tractor supply will sometimes have 1oz bluebonnet seed bags stocked for around $20
I loved this video, you really show that it’s pretty easy to grow bluebonnets with a few important tips. I’d love to see more blue in the suburban lawns. Plus it’s so much better for the bees than just boring grass everywhere 🐝🐝🐝
it was a fun video to make, thanks for watching it :)
Wow your bluebonnet meadow is THICC! 😮 I didn't realize how many seeds are required. So thanks for that info. Mine are in the lawn and forming seed pods. Some of mine died before making a pod though. I'm not sure why. 😢😮
Are they crowded out by grass/other weeds? Did you spray your lawn with anything? Did you put down grass seed? Some grass seed is a “3 in 1” seed, fertilizer, and weed killer that will kill the bluebonnets too
Please show a video of the dead bluebonnet meadow this year with all the seed pods please! 🙏🏿If you video the mowing process as well, I'd be so curious.
Will do! I’ll feature them in one of my summer garden tours this year. When I was editing this video, I was also wishing that I had some better footage of the bluebonnet husks
If anyone has audio issues, back out and restart the video. 😂 And to my fellow Texan - the bluebonnets are lovely. ❤ 🪴
Thanks for the technical troubleshooting and affirmation neighbor!
Not sure why there were audio issues, I think occasionally when I publish a video, it takes an hour or so to start working normally.
