One of the best ARPGs; has so many elements that make D4 look like a joke
Yeah, I'm hopping back into Grim Dawn for a bit while I wait for PoE 2. Very well made game.

to be fair grim dawn has had many years to improve its systems,and its not even done yett,the next major patch is going to bring in insane QoL changes,stuff that diablo 3 had since day 1 btw,i rly wish grim dawn looked and played like d4,its so tragic we need to compromise on both ends...where is the arpg equivalent of witcher 3?

A fun little thing about this game's two class mechanic is that *every* combination has a unique name. Soldier/Demolitionist is called Commando, Soldier/Necromancer is called Death Knight, Inquisitor/Necromancer is called Apostate, Necromancer/Occultist is called Cabalist, etc...
Yea hybrid classes which has existed in rpgs since they existed really.

I've been playing ARPGs consistently since 2004. I have 10 000+ hours on D2 and about 2000 hours on Titan Quest. Once I decided to do a challenge and play 10 ARPGs for an hour back to back so I can compare them and decide which one is the best. Grim Dawn was hands down the best IMO. It's the perfect ARPG and have yet to do a deep dive into it!
Don't even think I have 10k hours in games and I have like hundreds of games, 10k is wild asf.
@@DsgSleazy well I played D2 almost consistently since 2004. 10k hours is just an assumption, but that's 19 years. It is a lot nevertheless

I played Grim Dawn a couple years ago, was my first ARPG I played in a very long time. Got me back into ARPGs.
This is my favourite ARPG. It's never been uninstalled since the day I first downloaded it. Plenty of build variety, great loot to farm, lots of ways to get said loot, and metal AF.
It's one of my best hack and slash too, but the only thing I don't like in Grim Dawn, is the loot/items systems. We don't have a infinity of possibility of rolls and everything like PoE or even Borderlands. The items are all the same and you always drop the same item if you stay in the same zone. So if you drop a good item you like at level 60, you just have to return in that zone every 10 levels to get that same items, but better... It take 5 minutes, we don't need to farm... Even for the exp, I played normally, really not a lot. And my main is already level 96 (hardcore). So yeah... The loot/items system and because we don't need to farm, it's not my top ARPG, but it's so good.
I have ony been playing for a couple months. I see me playing Grim Dawn 2-3 years from now!! My most favorite ARPG. Blasts D4 into oblivion 😀 Most incredible ARPG!! Well made and SOLID!

"Sacrifice" (2000) pretty much does exactly what you are describing with regards to creating an in-depth RTS/action hybrid game.

Great video!! love it! btw you forgot to mention Devotion points which you can use to customize and perfect your build even more! :) and for those reading this... you can also use a mod called Dawn of Masteries or Grimmarilion which adds over 40 classes... yes you read that right lol
well since I have like 10 unique characters in this game, I can safely say that yes, this RPG can really pull you back many times :D
My only issue with grim dawm is tjay i can never make it to endgame since i get distracted by an exciting new build. I have like 20 characters
I can relate, I had like 15 before one of them reached level 100. But then I realized that making an endgame build is just as fun as leveling up, now 5 years later I have over 70 endgame characters and counting.
@@KelmutHool I reset my characters like a month ago and now am.going to try working at least 1 of them up to level 100. I usually dip out and try something new after act 1 on elite but I wanna make it to ultimate and max level at some point.

No, it does not.
Devs had said the engine has basically reached it's limit. New engine in development with plans for 2 games in the future. One is a RTS the other is a sequel to Grim Dawn.

My jam is either a Warlord (Soldier/Oathkeeper) and Warder (Shaman/Soldier.) Sword and Board Warlord is insane, I love it.
Grim Dawn is fantastic. A hidden gem. It's a different take on the genre and done well. Crate does a great job in supporting the game long after release.
Different from what exactly and how? It's literally closer to Diablo 2 than Path of Exile (or Diablo 4 for that matter).
Not gonna lie, to me it's pretty wild to see a love-letter to old-school ARPG design be called "a different take on the genre".
@@tukkek It is a different take on the genre. It followed up to titan quest and even that wasn´t the same as Diablo 2. The skill / class system works differently. The whole gearing up stuff works differently.

Gearing is exactly a copy-paste from Diablo 1. You have to be completely insane to claim it's any different, let alone "wholly different".

I probably had 15 characters at level 40 (deleted a few of them) because i just wanna see different early builds that i could take to the late game.
@@Freedom-kl8rt Grim Dawn is designed as a singleplayer game, it doesn't have seasons (although there are community-made season mods) so you haven't missed anything and never will. It's never too late to start playing. btw they just announced a 3rd expansion due for release sometime next year so there is plenty of content already and more on the horizon.
What the guy above said about the video is true, I've been playing the game since early access and still coming back every few months to try a new build or two.

I really gotta try this as a big Titan Quest fan. Especially now that TQ2 is one the way.
Cpt Shack fix the bridge near the water tank for fun loot plus look for roguelike dungeons for hard content , And break everything for new paths look closely at the map for hints if you can see it you can go there
i hate moving with left click. Holding down that shit kill my hands, thank for the video shack brought me back to this wonderful gem.
If you're already familiar with the game or looking for a reason to come back, highly encourage checking out the community run seasons. (grim league) New areas, items, quests, story, bosses that are high quality.

I’ve played a ton of Diablo 2 & 4 in the last several months & Grim Dawn is where it’s at it’s a great game
Occultist pairs REALLY well with Necro since it has a group heal with some regen and more pet buffs.
I just started that game. I've never heard of it before. Definitely worth. It's sad that I didn't follow that game from the start
The game launched in Early Access in 2013 and had it's full 1.0 launch Feb 2016. Just yesterday it was announced that Grim Dawn will be getting a THIRD expansion set to launch next year.
We need a Grim Dawn 2 with better engine and updated game systems. The game is great don't get me wrong, and one of my all-time favorites, but it's starting to show its age nonetheless.
From the notifications list I only made out the word Grim which made me think it would be some kind of 40K game. I guess it just isn't that particular case of grim dark this time.
Just got the base game and it absolutely worth picking up.
WOW! I just started playing this game again to. For people who love classes with pet builds that also have big selection of Debuff spells, combine the classes Occultist and Necromancer as it get really fun. Also combing the Soldier class with either of those two classes can also be really strong to
i love the game, but i cant help but wonder if theres like a big conversion mod that adds new locations, enemys, loot and what not for this game. something akin to calamity in terraria in its magnitude
If mods are your thing, they are here. Someone redid damn diablo2 with all the dual classing intact.
Look up grim league. It's basically multiple expansions worth in a free mod run by people in the community
I just picked this up last weekend. I already have 23 hours 😂 i have a feeling that this game is going to put a hold on me. So many options, and it looks and plays so well.
This game is what Diablo 4 should have been (with better graphics obviously).
However, Grim Dawn 2 will happen sooner or later ;)
ps. there is even a mod for Grim Dawn which recreates Diablo 2!
That mod also recreates Diablo 1 with Grim Dawn's systems.

i have started playing GD again since the past week and yeah it gets much better if you didn't get hooked in the first play. I am playing Warder class (Shaman + Soldier) face tanking everything LOL fun times!
I had not been able to appreciate ARPG a lot, much prefer CRPG like Pillars of Eternity or Pathfinder...but with Grim Dawn I do enjoy it plenty!
You should check out the Dawn of Masteries (DoM) mod for your next playthrough its actually insane! 1,275 possible masteries, increase hero and mob density to your liking and more!!
I see you're not picking up crafting components. There's an autoloot setting in options if you want the game to do it for ya. 2 pages are probably enough for all the components in the game - alteast I still havent filled them while farming for belgothian set on my blademaster.

The Arpg that I measure all others against. Just too many ways to build a character, no guides needed just go. Mind your defensive and you can take a character far. My most recent I just went cave man mind and said fire, burn everything with fireballs and meteor showers, I named him napalm. It’s been a blast.

If it’s such a great game and so well supported by the community and devs, why do they make way less money than diablo games ? Even tho players complaining all day long about it, why Grim dawn have not release GR2 ? Exactly, they don’t have the capital to invest, and why is that ? Diablo4's developer is worth billions so they can advertise their games as much as they want.
Honeslty, the leveling is super enjoyable, not complete like poe and is just a nice smoothe experience

I want to love this game so much, but i feel the vuild variety is so tiny. Theres like 5-6 active skills per character to pick from to build around. I have over a thousand of hours into poe though, and its in the best state its ever been as a base game. And there is soooo much depth of building and variety that giving me like 10 choices feels lame after having hundreds

I mean, all the expansion content is very much worth it. New maps, monsters, classes. The type of stuff that’s worth it if you like the game. However, no reason one couldn’t get full enjoyment for themselves out of the base game.
And if you don't know, they just announced the THIRD expansion for Grim Dawn.

Me being a classic guy. I'm 36. I don't like transmog. I liked when u could look at another player in game and know what gear they are wearing.
Grim dawn has spoiled it for me with any other ARPG. I get so bored in D4 and PoE and so I come back to Grim Dawn and try a new class combination and it's so much fun!
I really like GDs story, I think it's my favourite ARPG world. I hope they make another one as I'd love to encounter more of its eldritch gods and monsters.
They will most certainly make another GD but you'll have to wait another decade for a potential release. They are currently working on 3 other games, one of which is a RTS in the GD world (set before the events of GD)
I like the story cause it's not the generic racing to stop the antagonists plans, the antagonists already enacted their plan and Won. Humanity now has to fight to save what is left of the world that has been radically altered in many places.
@@KelmutHoolWell, it was just announced yesterday that Grim Dawn will be getting a third expansion next year.
Shouldn't expect ANY news about a Grim Dawn 2 til late next year at the earliest, they decided to build a brand-new in-house engine for it rather then reuse the current one.
@@Rokabur yeah they announced working on their own new engine sometime last year, it will be used for their RTS as well. Rumors of a new GD addon popped up 2 or 3 years ago when they asked the community where the world should be expanded, and many players said Asterkarn since it's just a small transit area but has much potential. But Crate also said that the game is content complete and that a 10th mastery is just too much to handle, probably only to not stir more rumors. So glad they lied 😄
I played lots of D1 and D2 and its mods. D3 was just okay. Never played D4. I've played hundreds of hours of Grim Dawn. They'd be foolish not to be developing Grim Dawn 2 at this point. Especially since there are so many disenchanted D4 fans right now and PoE 2 is looking really tight and getting lots of people excited.
Finally someone sayin d3 was okay I felt the same now I’m bored of d4..so I bought Poe and I’m having a hard time. so I’m lookin towards this till POE2
I read that some of this dev are from Blizzard, the original of course, almost all of them leave during the last phase of WoW developing, just before the re-worked warcraft3 (that we know was shitty). They should be the "good" part of them, the ones that create Hellgate London and Mythos as FlagshipStudios. Only two dev remained after they leave, and at today they also go away.....then we can say that diablo 4 (and the 3) is not made by Blizzard, while this is the last new gamevfrom the creator of Diablo.
I played this for some dozens of hour, i consider it the best 'point e click' rpg of all (Dungeon Siege, diablo, Titan quest, and many other i played) but is not at the level of Hellgate London, with the community mod that fix and expand it, that is more action based and innovative, this is to much old school for veterans.
I want to start playing this game, but i'm afraid of becoming addicted.

@@giorgosX38 imho Path of exile has a more polished style. But the perfect example I guess is the Diablo Franchise, really beautiful games in terms of graphics even when gameplay mechanics are not superior than other arpgs
