I know this is an older tutorial and I made a couple of these when I saw it a year ago...but it just popped up again and I thought it might encourage you to know I made 48 of these bags for Rock Lake Christian Assembly, a summer camp in Michigan. My sister did a girls camp for pre-teens and wanted each of her girls to have one for their Bible and goodies. 💜 thanks for the tutorial, they were a huge success🙂

    Such a useful project bag
Super cheap vinyl if you use shower curtains from the dollar store. Print and/or frosted clear, sews like butter 🧈 ❤

I attach the binding to the back side first, the wrap to the front and sew it down. that way the front is neat. Great tutorial. I'll be making these. thank you!!!!

Erica, I just wanted to tell you I've watched a handful of your tutorials so far &, as a 100% sewing newbie, I feel like I can actually tackle these projects & do well. I appreciate your thoroughness & attention to details. The fact that you give measurements & such in your description box, as well as actually show everything (& closeup!) is just so awesome & super helpful. I subbed to you a few days ago. Honestly, I just think you're a rockstar!

I love this project bag idea. It's a step up from what I really do because you add the binding. I'm going to try this and then hopefully I won't be scared to bind a quilt. You are great at tutorials and inspiring people!

Your instructions were absolutely sooo clear, and made this look so easy!!! Now let me tell ya **my** reality... LOL! First, I'm confined to bed and I'm using a mini sewing machine. I'm also brand new to sewing. I've made one project bag with vinyl and... well, I knew I could do better! So I found your tutorial, got everything ready, did all my cutting and got the pieces ready. I made the back of the pouch with no problem at all, in fact I was quite proud of my nearly perfect little sewn squares all across the fabric (I didn't just stop at sewing lines one way, I did them cross ways too). It looked awesome, so I was ready to move on. I got the zipper and sewed on the 3.5" strips, again... no problem. I sewed the strip on to the top of the vinyl after pressing all the creases in it...again, no problem. I got that sewn to the zipper... not perfectly straight, but good enough for a "second try". Now it was time to clip everything together and run that basting stitch all around. I even made absolutely sure when I trimmed off the excess zipper that the pull was well inside. I was proud of myself for remembering that. So I'm clipping everything together and as I turned my half-clipped piece to clip up the other side... there it was. Walking toward me. All eight ...long... furry.... legs... on the VINYL. There was screaming. Things went flying (including the 8-legged one-inch monster)... clips, scissors, binding strip, blankets, yep... everything. Husband in tarnished armor came riding in on his white sneakers, and stomped that monster into the ground... picked up all my tossed items and helped me catch my breath and put my heart back into normal rhythm. After about 20 minutes, it was time to get this project bag/pouch done. Absolutely NOTHING went right from this moment on. The vinyl slid all over the place when I was trying to baste it on (I ended up having to seam rip the bottom of the bag and then actually cut down the bottom of the bag because as I'm sure YOU know... you just can't "seam rip" vinyl. So I shrugged it off and carried on, determined that Mr. Hairy EightLegs wasn't going to spoil my fun (much). Then it was time for the binding. Everything really went to ...the bad place way down South.... I had somehow missed the part where you had apparently folded the binding strip, and I just started to sew it on and thought, "gee this strip seems so much wider than hers... did I cut it right? THEN I realized yours was folded (duh!). So I stopped sewing it on, pulled out my little mini iron and went to putting a center crease all the way down the binding. Got it sewn on (not very straight and more like 1/8 inch seam). Did the corners like you said, and met the ends up, sewed those together, got that sewn down and flipped it over. Now I gotta say, I'm super impressed how you can just sew right down those sides with those perfectly straight lines, fold those corners in and putter on. Mine...nupe. Didn't work out like that at all (remember: I'm using a MINI sewing machine that pretty much hates anything thicker than about 3-4 fabric thick). Along the sides was "okay"; I kind of sewed a straight line, but those corners... nupe nupe NUPE! I had to do some... let's just say, "creative" fidgetry and a little magic in the corners. But I did it... it actually doesn't look half-bad and I'll be using it for my cross stitch! I really want to thank you Erica... I couldn't have done this without you. This was such a simple way of making one of these bags (believe me, I've watched DOZENS of other tutorials on making zippered pouches with/without vinyl), and with a little more experience, I'm sure I'll be making them as pretty as yours is!!! Well, maybe! LOL!!

Looking forward to making this. Thanks for a great tutorial. I have seen other seamstresses use a piece of tissue paper over the vinyl seam area when sewing and then rip it off. This supposedly helps keep things line up / prevents slipping around.
