If everyone always picks distinct choices each round, then the solo player has about a 57% chance of winning. If you only needed 2 correct guesses to win, they'd only have about a 44% chance of winning. So they balanced it pretty well, with the solo player getting a slight advantage for being 1v3, but neither side has insanely better odds than the other. That ending felt like the game saying, "I've been listening through the microphone, and there is far too much support happening here. I need to make sure the friendships are all ruined before the game ends! Here, Wario, have three stars!"
Spoilers for game results! Nobody has mentioned that if Sam didn't hit that Star from the hidden block in the last second, Ash would've won by a single coin. The bonus stars didn't even matter. Truly a Mario Party experience.
