Rahul Varshney- Thom Thai in Odissi

Thom Thai is a pure nritta, performed on the rhythmic piece of mridangam and kartala and the mellifluous sound of veena and the flute which is accompanied with the dancer's coordinated steps. Movements are strong and crisp and redolent with sculpturesque poses.There is no song accompanying this dance, in this dance only one sthayi ukuta of the taal is repeated in rhythm. The dancer begins in the chowka position slow tempo and through a series of intricate movements gathers momentum.
