That may be true but the Republicans don’t have a silver bullet either!
Addiction is a social issue… government doesn’t create them, people do!

How I like this kind of America! This is exactly how it is... These are the real Americans. They don’t need the global problems that their government creates.

Bad choices have consequences and unfortunately mental health isn’t a priority to these people’s families. We want the best for people that struggle but they first must take the steps to want better for themselves.

I agree to a point, but to say addiction is a choice over simplifies a serious disease! The illness is so multi layered, it affects the mind, body and soul of a person and to truly understand its complexity it must be experienced first hand! Certainly choice is a part of it but circumstance and social environment plays a much larger role!
Like you said, mental health is a contributing factor as is physical and sexual abuse….
If these issues aren’t medically addressed then some individuals will seek out alternative drugs and self medicate!
I agree, you can’t help someone who won’t help themselves, then so be it! But it’s important to remember these people are so drug dependent, their bodies need the drugs to function. Just the thought of withdrawal and the pain and suffering that comes with it keeps them from getting clean. Also many of them are generational addicts, their parents were addict, so they lack basic life skills.
As I said earlier, l agree, you can’t help someone who won’t help themselves but there are some, can’t help themselves, so they need our help and support!
