I WAS THERE!!!!!!!! Atlanta Pop, July 4th, 1970. THE MASTER!!!!!! Look at the guitar strap he is wearing. David Gilmour of Pink Floyd has worn that very same strap since around 2006 for most of his performances. His wife bought it for him as a birthday present. Imagine what that strap is worth today! A month and a half after I was graced to be in his presence, he left us behind forever.
Just found out that Jimi Hendrix always played his right-handed guitar UPSIDE because he was left handed and early in his days he couldn’t find a left-handed guitar…he was ambidextrous too so he could play guitar with either hand…he’s a true Guitar Legend who inspired millions…great reaction video!✌️🎤🔥🎸
No baby, you're not dumb, jus young. At 22,(right?) you are smart enough to check out Jimi Hendrix. He is the original GOAT. This Superstar with the long slim fingers was born for the guitar. Brilliant composer, ethereal poet and musical genius, he single left-handedly changed the face of music forever. In his short 27 year old life he became a Legend, and quite possibly the first name you think of when you think 'electric guitar'. Nice, impressed reaction, but you need to hear a whole lot more. RIP, Jimi. Still loving you.
Some of the most talented guitarists around the world hold Jimi Hendrix in the highest regard! An unparalleled talent and artist. Welcome to a great journey into his music. 😽💋🎶💕
Machine Gun (Live), Wind Cries Mary, Castles Made of Sand, Rainy Day, Dream Away + Still Raining, Still Dreaming [listen to these back to back] and finally 1983… (A Mermaid I Should Turn to Be) and Moon, Turn the Tides… Gently Gently Away [again, back to back] are some of the best from Hendrix's unfortunately short career that we were blessed with. (Also, if you really vibed with the guitar playing, Pali Gap is an underrated instrumental released towards the end of his life, it's really good and a unique introspective into the direction he may have went as an artist had he lived)
Saw Jimi live when I was 14, in 1968. He's my favorite guitarist, hands down. He only had a few short years, but put out quite an impressive musical legacy. One of his best songs, imo, is "Voodoo Chile", the long studio version on the Electric Ladyland album. Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/yNC0sF9KgM4/w-d-xo.html
Absolutely right, bro. This is no way near Jimmy's best performance as crazy as this was. You got a deep rabbit hole to go down when it comes to Jimi's music. Pause. This dude was like the mystical magician of electric guitarist. The Grand Wizard Alchemist. There's so much music I can recommend but I'm going to start you off slow before we get to the heavy ish. Check out Jimi Hendrix Experience Wild Thing at the Monterey Pop Festival. That was his introduction to the US. That is a good point to pick up from here for you. Great reaction. th-cam.com/video/D4LnpDj24hI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=akPoJSvySCaAIoOX
Perhaps my personal fave performance of 'Purple Haze' is this one from Woodstock, in 1969, following his legendary reimagining of 'The Star-Spangled Banner', segueing into this gorgeous, funky and fluid instrumental solo. 💜 😊 th-cam.com/video/uiyihIjEuq0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=7uY8ThF3Fq-USvM_ Unfortunately, it's not a performance video, but the music stands up. Check out his whole set from Woodstock, or from his return to the US breakthrough at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967. Other tracks well worth a listen to gain some insight into his versatility, his importance as a musical and studio innovator are: 'Wind Cries Mary', 'Third Stone From the Sun', 'May This Be Love', and 'Are You Experienced', from his first album of the same name, 'Little Wing', 'If 6 Was 9', and 'Axis: Bold As Love', all from his 2nd album, the last one the title track, and 'Still Raining Still Dreaming', 'Burning of the Midnight Lamp', 'Voodoo Child (Slight Return)', '1983: A Merman I Should Turn to Be', and the title track from his 3rd and last studio album released during his lifetime, 'Electric Ladyland'. From the live 'Band of Gypsys' album, released owing to unwise business decision, a contractual obligation dating from before his breakthrough, 'Them Changes', 'Message of Love' and probably the most incredible guitar performance, cutting through everything else for decades and still lauded to this day, 'Machine Gun'. From 'Rainbow Bridge', I'd say listen to the whole damn thing, or not, but 'Dolly Dagger', 'Earth Blues', 'Pali Gap', 'Look Over Yonder', 'Hear My Train A-Comin' ', and 'Hey Baby(New Rising Sun) ought to be required listening, imo. For an early mind-f**ker, give an ear (and your skull) over to 'The Stars That Play with Laughing Sam's Dice'. Enjoy your trip. 😉🤙🏼🎶❤️✨️🕊
Yep. That's Jimi alright! Some others of his to check out are "Red House", "Pali Gap", "Crosstown Traffic", "Hey Joe" and "Dolly Dagger". Nice reaction. Enjoy your journey!
Nobody plays like Jimi but everybody sure wished they could. I go to see him live once, shortly before he passed away. I won tickets on the radio, I think I was about 14 at the time. Angel and Little Wing are also beautiful songs from Jimi.
Wild Thing, or Like a Rolling Stone at Monterey Pop Festival are amazing, and you truly haven't lived til you hear his epic Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock 1969.
He may have played with the strings upside down on a few occasions, I used to hear that, and believe it, be puzzled at what I was seeing, but generally he's playing the right-handed guitar restrung so that heavy strings are on top, light strings on the bottom as per usual.
He is the greatest rock guitarist of all time. For all the great guitarists in the last 60 years no one else comes anywhere near him. His concert tunes are at least as good as his studio versions which are outstanding. Check out Hey Joe, All Along the Watchtower, and Machine Gun for great examples of his work! Great Reaction by the way!
Something unusual about Jimi is that he was self taught and held the guitar upside down. He was also an army veteran and was from Seattle. We will get to Bob Marley later but don't feel bad about getting your legends mixed up. This is how you learn this stuff. As far as performances go jimi had many that were better.
You had asked for the guitar GOAT and a many do consider Hendrix to be the best. You will be seeing requests for Stevie Ray Vaughan (SRV) next because he was among the few at Jimi's level. Specifically, SRV Texas Flood live at El Mocambo is often suggested as one of most amazing performances ever recorded. Vaughan is pronounced "von". After SRV there is also Eddie Van Halen snd Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin to be amazed by before deciding who was thevGOAT
One of my 16 favorite guitar gods….well the list keeps growing! I’m GenX…of course Prince is one of them And Slash And the Young brothers And Kirk Hammett ❤❤❤
To make this even more interesting. Jimi Hendrix had synaesthesia - that means he literally could see the music in colors. Which, if he was tripping on LSD, meant that his visuals were something else. I wonder if "purple haze" was actually him experiencing this song.
There’s only one Jimi Hendrix… You should react to Stevie Ray Vahn (another exceptional guitarist) do his cover of Jimi’s, Voodoo Child. It’s pretty amazing…👍🏼
By 1970 he was tired of Playing this song & Many Songs from his 1st two Albums. I've yet to see someone React to WHO KNOWS From the Band of the Gypsy Album.
How hard is it...note he is left handed and is playing a right handed guitar upside down !!! You need to check out "Hey Joe" live at Monterey Pop Festival like your sub Mike-kv below suggests.
It may be a good idea to watch a few studio versions then live versions - the vocal is better balanced on the studio . 'Also unmissable are All along the watchtower ( Bob Dylan cover which he made his own ) Hey Joe , and the wind cries Mary , short career died 1970 and is part of the awful 27 club , those muscians who died way too young mostly of drugs overdoses- i don't want to be negative but it is important to have balance. What a waste of a talent. For rock connections it would ineterest you to check out The Animals - House of the rising sun 1964. This is an iconic track and they were the band that discovered Jimi Hendrix as a session musician when they were touring in the states and bought him back to England and promoted him. He was an instant success in Londonat the centre of the music scene and was friends with the Beatles, the rolling stones, the Who. Eric Clapton( Yardbirds and Cream) is supposed to have cried when he first heard him play. He is the Mr Jimi mentioned in the Rolling stones song - You can't always get what you want .
Singing and playing is not that hard. The more you practice, the better you get. You learn to put part of your brain on auto pilot--sometimes playing, sometimes singing, and multitask. Plus, the more you practice your instrument, the more you become like Matt Murdock. You can feel subtle differences, even through your calluces and stay where you want to be without looking at your instrument. Muscle memory also starts to happen, and you can focus where you want. I can actually play a guitar solo and sing at the same time because my body can take over responsibility from my brain. You just have to practice..ten minutes or more a day. BUT, it has to be EVERY day. Jimi LIVED with his guitar. He never married or had truly steady girlfriends because his strat was his true lover.
Jimi was lefthande plays his guitar upside down as backnin the 60's you coukdnt get left handed guitars . He playsctge guitar with his teeth.and behind his head and back. Stevie ray Vaughan copied jimi playing guitar behind his head . "HEY JOE should be your next song by jimi got to be live though to see those moves 😃🤘🤘🤘🤘🎸💖
Hey brother, I love Jimi. But this was not one of his great performances. This was toward the end of this time. He was burnt, he was bored, and he was just going through the motions. Some of his other earlier performaces was completely brilliant. This one was a downer. May he rest in peace.
This song by Jimi Hendrix is the reason that Prince uses the word purple in his music and lifestyle. He was Prince's greatest influence
I WAS THERE!!!!!!!! Atlanta Pop, July 4th, 1970. THE MASTER!!!!!! Look at the guitar strap he is wearing. Purple Haze was Acid 😁 Excuse me while I kiss the sky!!! Good times! 🇬🇧
My favorite along with "window pain", saw many of concerts with both of them 🤘🎶

Stop calling yourself dumb. Mistakes happen. You're opening yourself to some of the best music ever put on this planet! Enjoy!!!
Star Spangled Banner, Woodstock, 1969. Will blow your mind.
Band of Gypsies my friend - Jimi's special project
Check out his great performance of HEY JOE - LIVE AT MONTEREY POP FESTIVAL.
That show had a ending worth seeing too.
YOU FOUND THE GOAT!!!!..Welcome to the real world son!
Jimi Hendrix is a legend for a reason. ✌️

Never mind EVH this is the best guitarist the world has ever seen and always will be. RIP Jimi ❤
@ciderman 1950: 🎯... nuff said!!!
Legit one of the best guitarists to ever live! Some would even say THE best! AND he played left handed
Jimmy was king in the day. American icon still

I saw him in concert in Kansas City in 1968. Try the song “All Along The Watch Tower”
Wild Thing, or Like a Rolling Stone at Monterey Pop Festival are amazing, and you truly haven't lived til you hear his epic Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock 1969.

Crosstown Traffic is a great song too!
Welcome to your grandparent's music!! The MUSIC GENERATION!!
The greatest of all time...
Smiling. Yup. Keep up the great work! Well done.
You must hear Jimi in the recording studio and for that you absolutely must listen to “House Burning Down” and remember that it was recorded in 1967!
Note that he's playing a right handed guitar thats also strung for the right hand !!...just to make things a bit more interesting.
He may have played with the strings upside down on a few occasions, I used to hear that, and believe it, be puzzled at what I was seeing, but generally he's playing the right-handed guitar restrung so that heavy strings are on top, light strings on the bottom as per usual.
💜JIMI!!!!

Ex-paratroop Hendrix was playing around with the fact that popping purple smoke is US Army speak for "help me!".
He came hard with that beat lol
To make this even more interesting. Jimi Hendrix had synaesthesia - that means he literally could see the music in colors. Which, if he was tripping on LSD, meant that his visuals were something else. I wonder if "purple haze" was actually him experiencing this song.
The greatest. Peace out.
Listen to hey joe live at Monterey you will not believe what u see. This is why he is the best guitarist off all time

This is what we grew up with back in the day. So the next time you say "hey boomer"...
its hard believe me
You say it sounds like a type of weed. You are close - it was a type of Acid (LSD) back in the day...a strong one!

You need to listen to the studio recording. It's more polished. 😊
Hey Joe Monterey… it’s worth it babe!
React to Clint Eastwood by gorillaz or holy war by thy art is murder next please

Good old Jimi! Not the best singer bless him.
no education
How? My kids are your age and know him. Not sure you’re being 100% abt this.
I have no reason to lie my mom didn’t listen to rock growing up so I don’t know a lot of rock songs
