On today’s podcast I had Cuts CEO and founder Steven Borrelli on, and we talked about how he’s built the brand to a nine figure company with a potential billion dollar evaluation in the near future. I’m really excited about this because not only do I get to talk business with someone who is killing it, but I actually love the Cuts brand. Right now, I’m wearing Cuts sweater and pants! It was really cool picking his brain because now he’s making me think about what is possible in such a short amount of time, especially when talking about their billion dollar evaluation. Along with that, we talk about how he spends millions per month in marketing in order to get in front of people and create those sales! He talks about how he creates products, the R&D that goes into it, and also one big step that all entrepreneurs need to take whenever they’re looking at a new business. In 2015, Steven was working at an advertising agency and was the low man on the totem pole. At some point, he wore a lululemon shirt in a board meeting because it was hot outside, but was kicked out! He released he needed a wardrobe that was comfortable like casual clothes, but still looked professional. He moved home to Washington state and worked to say money. From 2015 to 2017, he hunched down and learned all about e-commerce and how to develop the fabric he wanted. The company has evolved tremendously over the past few years since it’s development. I used to be very cheap, but decided to buy a Cuts Clothing shirt a few years ago and it was a total game changer.
The company has been through a few variations but will never be a fast fashion company. Steven Borrelli sold shoes at Nordstrom, but other than that has no fashion background. Steven decided to fund the company with the $100,000 he saved and through Kickstarter. Steven Borrelli describes how his team is constantly testing new strategies and clothing. He then describes how the brand has been able to grow because the customers allowed them to.
Steven Borrelli even had to contact Jay Cutler’s team to make sure there were not any issues with the similar clothing brand names, and thankfully all agreed! Jay Cutler, four time Mr. Olympia and recent guest on my podcast, has a clothing brand Cuts Apparel.
Steven Borrelli and I discuss the Cuts Clothing marketing. Cuts has advertising on various podcasts, like The Joe Rogan Show, and on TH-cam TV, as well as Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. The Cuts Clothing demographic is males from 25 to 40 years old and are working on some women’s clothing!
