Iloilo was the original queen city of the south it is next to manila before, ( then took over by cebu) dyan po matatagpuan ang first deparrment store sa bansa yung ino occupy n ng washington supermart sa ngayon... Yung lumang gusali po ng bpi dyan ay ang first bpi branch sa pilipinas... May hsbc dn dati sa iloilo noong maunlad p ang kalakal ng asukal dati... Bago ang cebu pacific at pal may iloilo-negros air na
May malaking contribution dn ang iloilo at panay sa kasarinlan ng bansa ang plaza libertad ay isa sa mga lugar kong saan kaunaunahang iniwagayway ang watawat ng pilipinas with sta. Barbara outside luzon. Dahil sa contribution ng panay ang 3 star po sa watawat ng pilipinas ay Luzon, Panay, Mindanao base po sa Philippine Constitution if e research po ninyo ganon po nakasabi. Ang panay din po ay tinatawag dn na visayas dati. Dahil noong spanish time yung visayas ay tinutukoy lng sa isla ng panay ( may patungkol ito sa 10 datus na napadpad sa isla ng panay at nanirahan doon kasama n si datu puti na nagsabi n sila ay galing sa sri vijaya dn naging visaya) ang tawag sa cebu dati ay pintados while ang eastern visayas tawag sa kanila waray... Noong american era lng napasama sila sa visayas group of islands... Then na overtake pa ng cebu ang iloilo so akala ng iba sa ngayon n ang sentro ng kabisay an ay cebu...

Plaza Libertad or formerly Plaza Alfonso XII ay ang lugar kung saan ang Spanish Colonial Government under Gov. Gen. Diego de los Rios formally surrenders ending the 333 years of colonial government sa Pilipinas. Iloilo City being the last capital of Spanish colonial gov. Sadly, hindi rin yan itinuturo sa mga paaralan.. since Phil. history ay mostly Manila and Luzon based pa rin.

Hi Fern, the Iloilo-Acacia Lodge No. 11 is a Masonic lodge and that old building being renovated is their temple. The Ilo-ilo Acacia Masonic Lodge No. 11 is one of the oldest lodges of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines. The symbol you saw is the Masonic Square and Compass symbol with the letter G in the center, not letter C. The next time you see this symbol displayed in a building it means that that building is a Masonic temple where Masonic lodges meet.

Yung Aduana bldg po (Bureau of Customs office) maganda din po sya tingnan sa likod nya facing Iloilo River. Ma appreciate mo talaga yung building. Yan siguro isa sa favorites ko. ❤
This Aduana Building was designed in 1916 by Tomas Mapua, the first Philippine architect.
very distinct ang design ng masonic temples/lodges. i'm surprised you're not familiar with them. it can vary din depende sa lugar but you can still tell most of the time; but the one here is very masonic-looking not to mention the insignia. finally nirestore din. i sometimes see it from other ilo vids and it's very eye-catching kahit ganyan ang estado.
Parang hindi po yan ang old Iloilo City hall.. pero dating may mga offices ang city hall dyan. May panahon kasi na walang iisang building ang mga opisina ng city hall.. The OLD ILOILO CITY HALL is inside the city campus ng UP VISAYAS. Dating main library and building at ngayon ay isa ng musuem.
Kaaliw aliw ang paglilibot mo sa lugar, kay gandang pagmasdan na marami pa ring natitirang historical places or houses. Nabitin nga lang kami pero may karugtong pala sya. Sir, pwede pahingi ng ice cream?😋😅 Thanksss Sir Fern!👍🥰👏
Sir Fern kung dumiretso lang kayo papuntang dulo ng Plaza Libertad sa may GSIS building ay dulo ng Calle Sto. Rosario.. ang pinakalumang kalye sa Iloilo City. Doon mo makikita ang napakaraming mga old houses and buildings... sadly marami sa kanila ay hindi pa restored. At parallel sa kanya along that old building na may Landbank is Gen. Hughes St.. Maraming old houses and buildings din ang makikita.
They restored a long lost park which is now the Sunburst park, named after the US Army 40th Infantry "Sunburst" Division, which helped free Panay from Japanese control at the close of WW2
Sir Fern, sarap panoorin yong mga pinasyalan mong lugar sa Iloilo. During 70's ay diyan kami ng family ko sa Plaza Libertad nagpupunta tuwing Dinagyang Festival para sa event na merrymaking sa gabi. High school pa lang ako noon. Doon ko nakita ang napakasayang celebration. Walang gulo. Sarap balikan. Thank you.
The front of the Aduana is the Sunburst Park. This is where the Freedom Grandstand used to be until they moved it over to Muelle Loney just recently. They restored Sunbùrst Park to its rightful place. I remembered it was Sunburst Park when I was in HS in the early 60s.

Aduana is the Spanish for customs. That customs house is also called "Aduana building". I think there the 3 Aduana buildings built on the 3 most important ports in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial era: Manila, Iloilo, Cebu

The Masonic Lodge, Plaza Libertad and the monument of Philippine national hero Jose Rizal facing the lodge. It was in this place that on December 1898, the last of the Spanish admin surrendered.

On February 4, 1916, Public Act 2612 was passed by Philippine legislature providing for the establishment of the Philippine National Bank (PNB) to replace the small P1 million government-owned Agricultural Bank.
The Philippine National Bank was established as a government-owned banking institution on July 22, 1916. PNB's first head office was the Masonic Temple along Escolta, considered during that period as the "Wall Street of the Philippines", in the bustling district of Sta. Cruz in Manila. An American, H. Parker Willis, was its first president.
On July 24, 1916, PNB established its first branch in Iloilo.
after the Regent theater was restored during early 2010's, it was operating cinema showcasing some vintage adult films. It was stopped during the start of pandemic I think

Oh my, the Kerr & Co Bldg was never the Iloilo City Hall. It was bought and restored by the City Hall and made into a Gallery roughly a decade ago
