    6:30 ''...not pretty and not worthy of tumbling...''
    They will look better after a couple of beers, trust me

    Hi Mike, 2 1/2 months crunched into 38 minutes - good job!! Lots of great info for rockhounds. Thumbs up! Jim

    Old disabled house bound dusty rusty rockhound here: First-time viewer here. Really enjoyed your video! I rockhunt chat and gravel piles to this day. That's how I got started in the hobby... in the feldspar and quartz gravel pile in our backyard . By the time I was 3 years old, I had quite a collection... my parents had pictures of me showing them off to anyone who listen. LoL!!😅

    Another great video. Some of those turned out exceptional! My thought on the 2nd pile, tumble them some more. Is it possible that they just need more time due to hardness being different than pile one that took the nice polish quicker? Looking forward to seeing the batch you teased that was in the other tumbler! Thank you!

      I put most of the rocks in the second pile in with some other rocks I had that needed to go back to pre-polish. I think a lot of them were a bit softer than the ones that took a good polish. Not sure if they'll do any better second time around.

    I may try and take some of the softer rejects and do a smaller test with them to see if they polish down. Just to see

    • @MikesLapidaryFossils
      @MikesLapidaryFossils  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not the heavier grits. They break down in use. In theory the polish could be reused, but it would take some effort to clean it up. Generally I just use new at each stage.

    Can I ask what you do with these things you tumble after they are finished do you sell them or just have thousands of rocks sitting around?

    • @MikesLapidaryFossils
      @MikesLapidaryFossils  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Mostly just thousands of rocks laying around. LOL. Never considered that anyone might like to buy them. Maybe I will start packaging them up to give away in contests on my channel.

      Started collecting cool and different looking rocks a few years ago and a neighbor gave me a 1950 paint can tumbler that was hardly used. Grit and all. Experimenting with it but keep asking myself, what I'm going to do with them. Thanks for your honest answer.

      I have an artist friend who does that. I'll probably be sending her some stuff to wire wrap. Unfortunately I don't have an artistic bone in my body (I'm an engineer). I'm trying to overcome that though.

    Why would you pay money for ugly rocks when you can just walk outside and pick up the first rocks you see without any sort of discrimination? You have to carry them home anyway , whether from the store or from the side of the road.

    • @paintedcrow
      @paintedcrow 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      He's in Florida, which doesn't have many great rocks for tumbling. It's not like Minnesota or Nevada where you can just go find a creek bed or a canyon and pick up all kinds of agate and jasper. They do have lots of fossils though.
      Up north, you'd consider doing this when there's snow on the ground. Hard to rockhound then.
