  • Lisanne Prooij suffered with Emetophobia, anxiety and depression for 11 years and has joined us on the Emetophobia-Free podcast to share her unique and insightful story. Lisanne is now over all of her mental health symptoms and passionate about helping others.
    Lisanne’s shares her experience of overcoming Emetophobia whilst still believing that she was suffering with it. The podcast highlights the importance of the story that you tell yourself when you are working to overcome your phobia and how a perfectionist thinking style plays a bit part in keeping you stuck.
    Lisanne’s message to anyone struggling with Emetophobia, anxiety or depression (or any other mental health symptom) is to focus on creating good mental health in all areas of life not just zoning in on your specific symptoms. Learning to thrive is the easiest way to feel powerful and get yourself over any mental health symptom including Emetophobia.
    The podcast also covers why thriving isn’t just being happy all of the time. Inevitably in life there are difficult and sometimes traumatic events that happen and thriving is having the belief in yourself that you can cope with and get through those difficult times. It is not believing that you will feel great and happy all of the time - no toxic positivity here please!
    Going through the Thrive Programme was so life-changing for Lisanne that she trained to become a Thrive Programme Coach and is now fully qualified and helping others to overcome their mental health issues. Lisanne is based in the Netherlands but is able to work with people worldwide online.

    Emetophobia is the fear of vomiting/sickness: either yourself, other people, or both. Research suggests 0.1 to 8.8% percent of the population have a fear of being sick (Hout & Bouman, 2011).
