I really love Yundi's interpretation. Some say he has an exaggerated face. But i think this reveals that he can feel much more from a piece of music than others.Sometimes he draw something in the air while pondering, it just like he is able to draw the shape of the notes!
6:20 "How I should live my life, what to eat, what to wear are my own business. I won't allow myself being forced not following my heart. It would be tiring to live such a life." 7:23 "Chongqing is my home town. I grew up there. I'm very glad to perform for my people there. I miss my grandparents and other relatives. I haven't seen them for long."
I try to translate some of his narratives: 1:48 "Normally I won't try to fulfill the requests of audience. How to present my music, how to perform and how to touch my audience is what I think most important." 2:12 "I don't feel lonely. I'm pursing what I truly love; art, music and piano. I keep performing at various places." 2:26 "All things follow such a process; nothing goes straight to the goal."
5:32 "I only want to be the best. That's my faith. Of course, failures can happen, but I will try my best." 6:07 "No matter how people admire me or what kind of opinions they have on me, I feel all I need to do is to present myself."
3:11 "I participated a few competitions before (the Chopin one) and failed to get the first awards, but I have been optimistic and always self-confident. During these performance after competitions, I probably performed better than those No.1s."
Yes, he recorded the Fourth Ballade from the Chopin Competition under the Maxell japanese label. I bought it from a chinese website after he won the competition. And yes, he got the boot from DG because he kept on playing the same program; he was scheduled to play Beethoven but instead played some pieces he had already played from the year before. His repertoire is limited. Maybe he needs some time off to learn more music.
i've been to lang lang's concerts, he's full on nuts when he's playing...O__O" his face was really exaggerating... i don't think it's necessary to exaggerate THAT much in order to express ur feelings..well i suppose he's just trying to entertain the audience..

Music needs no words, it is universally understandable if one has motion senses.

Nobody played Mr. Chopin with soulful feelings as Yundi Li.

I've always wanted to know what he thinks, especially about that competition.

think he's parents are pretty strict O.O probably that's why he's great today.
I reckon Yundi Li is more of a professional musician, while Lang Lang is more of the commercial musician type
he also played scarlatti an prokovief...
true point tough

他是我们中国人 就算玩的是西洋乐 流的也是华夏血!
You forgot about Rubinstein, Zimerman and Chopin himself?
@hoiningt just commercial..he's(lang lang) not a musician at all... more of a stage drama artist...
