    Great job on the build. They say that a Boat is a Hole in the Water That You Throw Money Into, and that the two happiest days in a boat owners life is when he buys it and then sells it. I've had my 16' Lowe Big Jon with a 40 HP Mercury for 35 years. My boat and trailer in 1986 was $1,000.00. The motor was a 1992 model I paid $2,000.00 for it. We put a floor and pedestal seats in it, two trolling motors and a bilge pump. It's garage kept and looks new. With the price of Jon boats today, I'm so glad I bought it when I did.

    i appreciate your videos on the boat build.. i ended up just doing a lot of FB market shopping.. alot of driving to find the boat i wanted .. and ended with a boston whaler with 30hp outboard.. center console.. spent 140 to get the outboard tuned up.. added a used helix 7SI FF (400.00), and an anchor lock 55lb thrust remote controlled trolling motor..85ah battery and a power switch, lights and bilge total just under 5100.00

    I think part of the idea is to take your total and then compare it to the MSRP of those companies that are sells Jon Boats that are already tricked out in a similar fashion as what you have created. The question is, if someone decides they like the job you did on yours, would you be willing to build one for them?

    You did a great job and I love the color. I was looking for a boat last summer and struggled to find even a project boat for a decent price. Like you said everyone wanted new price for their old beat up 50 year old boat. I ended up settling for something smaller and in the process of fixing it up with basic necessities to suit my needs. Again great job 👍

    I bought a brand new 2020 xpress 14 ft boat and 15hp yamaha motor and 2020 trailer for 7200...i have turned it into a mini bass boat now lol...i have a 45lb thrust minn kota with pronav on it. 2 batteries with guest procharger battery charger attached..all my power connection are in a secured waterproof box with the switches on the side...along with the fuse box and etc in it.it has casting deck built in with storage cabinets underneath...all carpeted.I would say you did great to keep it under 6k...i have close to 10k tied in mine. Luckily all I have left carpeted. a fish finder and im all done. even though I spent more there is nothing like knowing I did all the work myself and it came out perfect

    Bro, you did not overspend! Every piece of your boat is high end quality. If you had bought that boat like it sits...it would've cost you a lot more! Lol I mean you have more fish finder than most of us have actual fishing equipment!

  • @beebob1279

    You get what you pay for. If you're happy with it then good. Remember, if you had someone else do the work for you it would cost at least 4-5 times the amount you paid. Plus, you have the satisfaction of doing yourself. And most importantly, you know where everything is and how to fix it.
    I see set ups not close to yours for sale in my area for a lot more that what you paid for it.
    Now use it and enjoy it.

  • @mumbles1justin
    @mumbles1justin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The build was great. I think the total cost was reasonable for the features and function your build ended up with. With a little more research on where to source all the equipment I think a person could shave a thousand off the total. But I know sometimes you just have to go with what you can find right when your looking for it or projects never get finished.
    The one thing I don’t remember you listing in the cost of butane. I watched your time lapse of this build and I chocked when I saw all the wire terminations and shrink you were having todo and did all of it with a butane torch. Im curious how many cans or did you spend on butane. lol Im sure that would have paid for multiple heat guns and soldering irons. :-)
    Congrats on the awesome build!

    Wow that was quite a bit! When it comes down to thinking about what we spend on boats, I remind myself that it's a hobby. If your hobby was golf, it would cost you $$ every time you went to the driving range - let alone the gear, clothing and accessories! It is weird to really look at it all spelled out. When you're ready to buy another one, you'll easily spot the items that will "save" you money in the future!

    Key words, did it the way I wanted it. I spent quite a bit on mine also but not that much. My outboard was 75$. Didn't run. Put about 150 in it and now it runs like a top. 20hp johnson. Sad part is the money spent on a build like yours. For that price. Probably could've bought a new bass tracker (panfish type). That's alright though. You'll get many of years of satisfaction fishing out of a boat you made your way. Fish on dude. You forgot registration fees, tags, license on trailer if you have to tag in texas

    Really u just need to compare what u paid total to build the bass boat u want how u want it, to what a bass boat equal in size and specs to urs and if its equal or less than u made out cuz u got something that u want how u want with the satisfaction of having had the vision, know-how, and capability of building it urself.

      If you just want a boat for every once in a while then I would say it’s totally fine but if you wanna fish more often and maybe do some Jon boat tournaments then I would say get a bigger motor and beed up the transom
