There was a guy who worked at a clothing store at the Bristol Mall in Bristol Va. in the 80's. This dude looked like Rods twin brother. Same hair cut and all. We called him Rod Stewart.
Great movie Innerspace! Hilarious line where Martin says "Help me doctor I'm possessed"! LOL! What a fun song! Rod and Martin must have had fun doing the video together. Wonder why they didn't get Dan and Meg in it too?
The dictionary definition of "gay" is lighthearted and carefree, which is what he means In the song. Now it is commonly used in defining homosexual men (sometimes women). I searched this song out from watching Innerspace, as it was featured in Jack's drunk moment, and at the end of the movie.
I hate to sound blasphemous, but I actually Like Rod's version better than Sam Cooke's. Not to take anything away from Sam(his version is great),but Rod's cover just has a "fun" air to it that sticks in your head. That, and the girl at 40 seconds is just too adorable ! ;) lol
I wanted to get a copy of this version in mp3 for my iPhone - can only find the older versions :( This one has so much more energy! The soundtrack cost is WAY out there (over $50Cnd) ... guess I'll have to keep my enjoyment to TH-cam & Sam Cooke!
@blueballsredhair I think was the version used at the end of the movie Inner Space with Martin Short (which you can obviously see in this video). While I agree re the music track, I reckon Rods vocal on this is a little better than his first attempt.
@happymeal159 - I guess the answer as to "Why the second cover" lies with copyright and recording issues plus the need to produce a 'poppy' video to keep the record label happy....PS Ron Wood's guitar work on Faces and early Rod albums is amazing - no wonder Micky Jagger dangled a Rolling Stone medal in his face.
@blueballsredhair The reason is it was the THEME SONG for the movie InnerSpace with Martin Short, and it was released to PROMOTE the MOVIE! I personally like both Rod's and the Faces versions equally. IMHO
I can't figure out what's better this song, or Forever Young or Young Turks. Please comment. I love all 3 of those songs and it's tough as hell for me to choose. UGH
@blueballsredhair I think was the version used at the end of the movie Inner space with Martin Short. While I agree re the music track, I reckon Rods vocal on this is a little better than his first attempt.
@blueballsredhair I saw Rod last night in Philly so I looked this up. I love this song. I couldn't agree with you more.. Who the hell is backing him on this song? Partridge Family!!! This is a washed out pop version. Ronnie Wood smokes on the orginal version. This verison sucks. But still love ya Rod...Great show last night.
open a new window, copy the link from the you tube video, on the new window type in youtube to mp3 and find a program that does that, paste the link on the program download the song, it should go to your windows media player, burn it to a cd and your done, i know pain in the butt but if you want it bad enough youll do it, i do it all the time, theres a lot of awesome songs on youtube that are certain versions of the originals that you will never find on a cd
13 people prefer the original by Sam Cooke. I can't say if I prefer one over the other. Personally, I'm not a big fan of remakes, it causes people to forget who the original singer was. However, as long as they don't completely butcher the original, I say let the music play on.
"innerspace", one of the most underrated movies of the 1980s... and of all-time. it's really funny.
"JACK PUTTER TO THE RESCUE!"
"That was the cowboy!!!" JACK PUTTER TO THE RESCUE!!!!!"
Just got done watching "Innerspace" I like the scene where they dance to this song!
Thanks Rod, for remember me my early years in the 80's. Your voice is the british pop!
The 1972 version was nice but this 80s version is my favorite. He recorded it for the movie "Innerspace" and included it in his Storyteller album.
a very good song which we didn't hear much in the radio. Why??? well, simply because the 80's were full of great songs.... couldn't play them all !
Innerspace brought me here too

Great movie Innerspace! Hilarious line where Martin says "Help me doctor I'm possessed"! LOL! What a fun song! Rod and Martin must have had fun doing the video together. Wonder why they didn't get Dan and Meg in it too?

HAPPY 65TH BIRTHDAY ROD
The dictionary definition of "gay" is lighthearted and carefree, which is what he means In the song. Now it is commonly used in defining homosexual men (sometimes women). I searched this song out from watching Innerspace, as it was featured in Jack's drunk moment, and at the end of the movie.

Is this avalable on any album? i realllllly want to get hold of this version!
I gonna get so much hate for saying this, but I prefer this version over the original.
I like Sam Cooke's better.
But Rod has a very nice voice!
I agree.
Love it! *****
This actually isn't a bad cover:)
GREAT ROD!!!
I'm possessed!!!
@blueballsredhair I think was the version used at the end of the movie Inner Space with Martin Short (which you can obviously see in this video). While I agree re the music track, I reckon Rods vocal on this is a little better than his first attempt.
Just a great song and Rod does a great version of it.
Rod Stewart must've got Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" leather tuxedo from a garage sale for his video.
@tsjrlover - he wouldn't have been 66 when he made this promo video but he does look and move very good for his age.
This sounds better at speed 1.25 :)
I know! i can't find it anywhere. CD, download.... It's driving , me mad!!
gay means happy as well
Anyone know where I can find this version?
@blueballsredhair The reason is it was the THEME SONG for the movie InnerSpace with Martin Short,
and it was released to PROMOTE the MOVIE! I personally like both Rod's and the Faces versions equally. IMHO
Chubby Checker would jump right out of 1960 if he ever heard this cover.
♥♥♥
@Tokopol Just watched it. Good movie, good song.
HOLA ALGUIEN ME PUEDE DECIR COMO SE LLAMA EL ACTOR QUE ES COMICO......DE TANTAS PELICULAS......LOS DOS GROSOS!!!
I can't figure out what's better this song, or Forever Young or Young Turks. Please comment. I love all 3 of those songs and it's tough as hell for me to choose. UGH
yes!!!! i twist!!!!
@blueballsredhair I think was the version used at the end of the movie Inner space with Martin Short. While I agree re the music track, I reckon Rods vocal on this is a little better than his first attempt.
maybe he was Rod in disguise, and on vacation. LOL! :)
Rod Stewart ando Dudley Moore... in some ways, they were look alikes.

@nadenka64 - your comment made me laugh.
@Butterfly1Blue 42 or 43 when he made this video
I don't think I saw anyone actually doing the twist in that clip.
imho, his first version of this was much stronger. I believe it was on Never A Dull Moment.
rod makes it better
@blueballsredhair Actually Sam Cooke did the original.......

@blueballsredhair - maybe you could try that comment again without the bad language !
@blueballsredhair
I think it's kinda obvious why this guy's got "blue balls"....
This isn't his best song ever. I liked the version off "Never a dull moment"
