How To Fish a Fluke - Bass Fishing

  • How to fish with a fluke, or soft plastic jerk bait, like a pro to catch more Bass. And, how to rig a Fluke for Bass fishing. What’s the best hook for a fluke, what rod and reel, and which techniques work best. The Zoom Super Fluke started it all, but now there are many different colors and brands to choose from. My favorite color fluke for bass fishing , as you’ll see in this video, is watermelon red.
    In this video, you’ll learn my most productive technique called “dead sticking”. It’s best used in open/deep water for suspended Bass.
    I hope you enjoy my how to videos. Let me know what you’d like to see in the future!
    Please like, comment, and subscribe!
    Thanks for watching,

    What I like the most about the videos, is that you explain things in a way that anybody, at any level of fishing walks away with useful information. Since I started watching your videos, it has change my whole way of fishing, and I'm starting to actually CATCH fish, rather than just going fishing.

    Thanks Chuck. Ever since the first time that I watched this video, I've become addicted to fishing with nothing but Watermelon Red Flukes. I just caught a bass that was ABOUT 9 pounds. My biggest bass ever. I couldn't have caught that bass if I had never watched your video.

    This is almost exactly how I stumbled upon doing this. It’s been one of the best baits for me this year. If you work this thing the right way past a bass, he’ll almost certainly hit it. Even bluegills smaller than the bait itself go “whoa!” and start chasing as it goes by. Fish brains just can’t handle it. The trick, like any other bait, is to make sure they have it then get a good hook set. But with this, it’s almost like a top water frog. The hook has some material to get through so you gotta give it a nice little jerk to pin em.

    Very help, this is the one lure I bought a whole bag of because they were cheap, I had no clue how to fish it. I thought it was all about the long plastic straight tail in the back wiggling so I would reel it in fast as possible. This method here works! Thanks.

    This is my go to bait, great instructional video I normally only use it in shallow water 8 ft. and under. After watching you letting sink I`ll try it out. I use 4/0-5/0 Owner twistLOCK light wire hooks. They keep the head of the bait in place so it doesn’t wad up on the hook.. I throw them weightless on 12-15lb fluorocarbon, medium heavy casting or medium spinning with 15lb braid to leader. For colors I like green pumpkin magic, watermelon magic and ham bone.. that’s how I do it! 🤷‍♂️😆

      Flo Rida Glad you like the video. 👍🏻. I’m not sure why everyone has written off mono. It definitely has it’s place. It sinks a lot slower than other lines, and that’s why I like it for dead-sticking.

    Gonna try that way to rig it next time out. I always used the hook thru the belly and out the top. If it was rigged right it gave me the walk the dog action but if it got the slightest bit out of whack it would twirl back to the boat. Can't wait to try your method.

    First off, I gotta say I like your style man. You're humble and can make fun of yourself. That's a very rare and admirable quality these days. I also really like your approach of "this is how I do it" vs "this is THE way to do it". Is the main difference behind "dead sticking" and the "surface lure action" simply the wait time immediately after cast and during retrieval? I just want to make sure I learn your technique and don't miss a nuance. Is the main mentality to just chill and wait more frequently during retrieve?

    • @ChuckPippinBassFishing
      @ChuckPippinBassFishing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Russ Schampers Thanks! Glad you like the video. Yep, rigging it with the slight downward arch in it allows it to have its own swimming action as it free falling down. Just let it sink on slack line and let the fish come to it. 👍🏻

    How often do you upload chuck just wondering because i can take pointers on fishing bass. I need channels to be frequent with content. Im from Northwestern illinois and i fish around chicago when it gets to hot the fish just dont bite and i dont know how to catch them when they aren't biting any tips?

      Canni Plays I hope to put videos out every 4 - 5 days. I'm out there almost everyday, but don't always film. When it's hot, find their food. They don't like to work for it too much. So, they'll be close to their food sources. Where do the baitfish go when it gets hot on your waters?

    How does the hook not completely go through the soft plastic after your first fish you catch on it or am I misunderstanding how you're hooking the fluke on

    • @ChuckPippinBassFishing
      @ChuckPippinBassFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Larry Rotz Sometimes it does damage the fluke and you’re unable to set it back properly. In this case, you have to rig a new fluke. Most of the time, however, you can reset the hook by slightly adjusting it to set into a part of the fluke that is not torn.

    Is that a bulk box or just a bunch of bags combined?

    • @ChuckPippinBassFishing
      @ChuckPippinBassFishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chris Gonzalez It's a bunch that were given to me, straight from the molds. They're not Zoom - an off brand that I like. It always helps to know the right ppl.

    When you leave the hook in the flute or any plastic bait you miss more fish. What I do is the same rig but I grasp the hook with my needle nose and bend it up just a bit so that the sharp point is barely sticking out of the bait by just a hair and you will catch more fish. Now you will get snagged up every now and then, when you do don't try and horse it out. Just be patience and troll back untill you get over the bait and just lift it out. 90 recent of the time you will not lose your rig. Thats part of fishing period.

    what size hook for 7" fluke?

    • @ChuckPippinBassFishing
      @ChuckPippinBassFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Barrett Bivens I usually use a 4/0 offset wide gap hook. I’ll use a light wire hook if I want it to sink slowly, and a heavier wire hook if it’s windy, or I want it to sink faster. If you’re using a magnum-sized fluke, I’d go with a 5/0 hook.
