@@charlesmaurer6214I'm not sure where you got that information from but it's incorrect. It was a Jeep Grand Cherokee, it didn't have AI or self driving features.
It was recalled because of a badly designed gear shifter, basically drivers incorrectly thought they had put their cars in Park but they were still in gear. It was linked to 40+ injuries and dozens of other accidents.
He thought he had parked his car on his sloped driveway. He hadn't. He got out of his car, it rolled backwards down the driveway and killed him.

That's not what happened. Per the NYT:
The 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee that rolled backward down a driveway and killed the actor Anton Yelchin early Sunday was a model that Fiat Chrysler has recalled for a gearshift issue that has confused drivers, leading them to accidentally leave the car in neutral when they think it is safely in park.

I remember taking my mother (who is a huge fan of the original series) to see the first movie in this trilogy. After seeing it, I asked what she thought about Chris Pine as Kirk. Her exact words were, "he has just a bit of the devil in his smile, like Shatner did. They really found the perfect man to take up the mantle." Honestly, it's rare to see so many iconic characters so perfectly cast for a reboot.

    • @tedkord1968
      @tedkord1968 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I could not disagree more. Chris Pine is nothing like Shatner. He's the exact same as in every other movie. Karl Urban is amazing as Bones, Simon Pegg is very good ss Scotty. Other than that, the rest of the cast is middling to poor. They're good actors, but they're not capturing the original characters. Pine is by far the worst.
Of course they're not helped by the poor scripts. That's not their fault.

    • @glenngalloway6191
      @glenngalloway6191 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@tedkord1968 I agree that Karl Urban does the best. I'd say Zachary Quinto gets screwed by the script in the sequels because of the 'bringing out his human side' point they fall back on. Never go full human. Of course, my mom hated TNG because she found it too sedate.

As an older generation (Gen X) fan who grew up with TNG as “my” Star Trek, I really like these newer movies (& most of the new shows, too). In part, because of folks like you, Jen: the newer movies hooked you because they were tailored to your sensibilities, but were still recognizable as Star Trek at their core. The Kelvin movies minted a new Star Trek fan in you, & you are not alone.
I defend the new movies & shows to older fans for exactly that reason. They have attracted tons of new fans to one of the best franchises in the world. We should all be happy about that.

He narrated, and maybe hosted, the original "In Search Of..." and his successor here hosts the revival version. In the original series version of "Mission: Impossible" he was also a secret agent. He was a great person to meet and chat with! Including being with William Shatner. My favorite encounter was not at an autograph table or in a Q&A line, but when my best friend and I randomly encountered them, as we and they were just walking. Probably my three most favorite episode from TOS that you have not already watched are:
Gamesters of Triskelion: My favorite overacting by William Shatner
Day of the Dove: Has my favorite line in all of the shows and movies
Patterns of Force: A great commentary on the dangers of trying to use evil for good.
I think you will really enjoy those three. If you have already seen any of these, I missed it.

I know this was a while ago, but I just want to say, my Mom is a die-hard Trek fan, and watched the original series as it aired when she was in high school. And she's loved the reboots. They aren't trying to replace anything. Like most of Trek they're just adding more.
I also really like these, and especially love how good the casting was. (Spock has always been my favorite character in all of Trek, and I think Zachary Quinto really nailed the character.)
I'm glad Jen enjoyed them and is enjoying the rest of Star Trek.

Thanks jen. On kirk and spock as a great team . There is a deleted scene from the first movie 09 . Where kirk is speaking to spock prime about how they are not friends and hate each other. Shock says they will be friends and a great team , that they will have a famous partnership. Like lennon and Mccarthy ( the beatles) .

40:21 Mark! No, they aren't rebuilding the wrecked ship. They built a replacement ship. Knowing what I now know about the "Enterprise-D" I see no reason now to repair and/or rebuild the wrecked one, though. In the Prime Timeline, she exploded because of the self-destruct and then experienced atmospheric entry burning and then impacting on the planet's surface, and then the planet exploded! There's no coming back from that! 😮

I've been watching Trek TOS since the early 70s in syndication as a kid after school, then later in the evenings after the local nightly news (it bounced around over the years). Even so, I enjoyed the 2009 Star Trek. I did not care for "Into Darkness" all that much, but I loved "Beyond". I really do want another movie with this cast. Just a shame that Anton is not with us - that was heartbreaking.

    43:51 Mark! 1.6K Thumbs Up + Mine! 👍 You're welcome, and thanks! ☺️
Notes: "Netflix" somehow got to show "Star Trek: Prodigy" and so I viewed it! I appreciate these three live-action movies now even more so after seeing that series made for children or young people. 🤔 By that I mean, that I'm disappointed that by the 24th Century in that series and the 23rd Century in this movie trilogy, that more relevance is given to Slanguage than proper grammar! 😳
Bless you Jen Murray for being not just pretty, but also smart and intelligent enough to understand this trilogy as well as the older shows and movies!
I'm 59 and I have no problems with the canon (not "cannon") status of them! "Apocrypha" is applied to non-canon stuff like fan-made productions. I can accept alternate timelines and realities and a Multiverse! It is easy for me because I accept the phenomenon known as "The Tommy Westphall Universe"! As anything goes in the imagination of an autistic boy! 🧐

Best line of the movie comes early on when Kirk is complaining about how routine everything has become, and says that "things have become...episodic." That was such a great call-back to TOS. The most heart-breaking moment of course was the reveal of the death of Ambassador Spock. Fans were still mourning the loss of Leonard Nimoy. It was a respectful tribute.

One of the great things about _Star Trek_ is that it reinvents itself for different generations. My mom was a fan of the Original Series, while I grew up with _The Next Generation._ Though the different groups of fans may squabble amongst themselves about the pros and cons of their eras, it is smart to never let the IP stagnate.
This is my favorite of the Kelvin timeline movies. It's sad that tragedy bookended the production of this film. Leonard Nimoy passed a little before production began, and only weeks before the release of the movie, Anton Yelchin died in a freak accident. If production of a fourth Kelvin _Trek_ ever gets off the ground, the writers must address the problem of Anton's Chekov. While there is no perfect solution, an in-universe explanation exists. They can say Chekov left the _Enterprise_ to serve aboard the _Reliant,_ just as the character did in _The Wrath of Khan._

yeah... uhmm.... trying to un-complicate the complicated here... Sulu's _daughter_ shows up in ST 7 at the the helm of the Enterprise-B, before the encounter with the Nexus.
that on-screen event then triggered a fan production called Star Trek Phase II to show an episode where then-Ensign Sulu is time-shifted in a transporter accident and fathers a daughter called Alara. That daughter is killed off, and Sulu is reverted to his younger self. George Takei guest stars as old man Sulu.
_off_ that plot point, years later we get another production set in the prime timeline where old Sulu (Takei) talks to his ST7-established daughter Demora about that Phase2-established daughter Alara, which we never saw.
since we never saw neither Demora's nor Alara's mother/s (tho they are mentioned in various books), and having Takei coming out as gay after the end of Star Trek, they decided to make _this_ Sulu (alternate) gay.
_this_ daughter we see here could either be Demora, OR Alara... fans widely consider her to be Demora since it's the one we've seen in the movie.
    it's a retroactively-referenced spin-off reference.
    bordering causality loop.
yeah.... Trek is full of those.
    5:55
and that officer is Commodore (Admiral?) Paris, which is a reference to Tom Paris from Voyager.
this would be this timeline's great-grandmother to Tom, 100 years down the line.
her first name is never mentioned, but it would be cool if she was named Miral, after Tom's daughter, which would make her a retroactive reference to _this_ Miral, and ... you get the point.

This is my favorite of the trilogy. It really feels like classic Star Trek, in multiple ways, while being it's own thing. And all of the actors feel like they fully become the characters in this one. The fact that an actual Star Trek fan Directed this one is very obvious. I also loved all of the references to Star Trek: Enterprise, the most underrated of the classic Star Trek shows.
**Also Kirk learning, this early in his career that he doesn't want the Admiral position, that he's a captain that needs a ship. Instead of having to go through 4 whole movies to get there. Is awesome.**
