I agree with the bit about having an ice ax too except that as a hiker (who occasionally encounters snow), not an alpinist/climber, a commercial ice ax is overkill (and over budget) for me. Seems to be a dillemma, but it was solved by making my own lightweight slide arrester which I have tested in real mountain conditions. I must add that my first recourse is to avoid serious snow hazards as best as practicable, and to Never let an artificially imposed schedule (or lack of food supplies) to create a situation where HASTE creates the primary danger. - Cold Kills - Nature is Neutral, and - Mountains Don't Care
Am supporting some friends / family, and will hike sections on local permits as work allows. If work goes quiet then may be there all the way again. Are you hiking this year ?
@@lothar8194 yes! I have fallen in love with hiking and it makes my dog very happy too. I am hiking locally while studying for the NCLEX. Just finished nursing school. I discovered All Trails and hike new trails and go further on former trails- working on getting in shape. I plan to hike the AT next year. I am glad you are able to help your friends. That is important since the good you do tends to come full circle. I trust your work will be profitable and allow you to hike the PCT when you can. Thanks and God bless.
@@LionessHiker What is the NCLEX? (North Carolina Limping Exercise😂?) I'm in the Pacific Time Zone and was not a recreational hiker during my limited (military) East Coast area experiences. I do know about the ticks and prickly heat however.
@@treebeardtheent2200 Oh is that a riot! The director of our nursing program is a hiker as well. He will love that! NCLEX stands for National Council Licensure Examination. Is is the exam I must pass in order to work as a nurse.
