In this video we show how to make a Chess from Oak and Epoxy Resin with a floating effect and light. This chess is completely handcrafted .Chessboard made from oak and epoxy with pearl and green pigment with pine cones added and LED. Chess pieces are also made from epoxy. DIY.

Yeah I wasn't sure about the pinecones at first but at the end it all made sense
My father in law is an amazing wood worker. He also uses resins and stuff doing his art. Recently made me a guitar out of a jack Daniels barrel and it is amazing... I will definitely be sharing this with him. Every time he sees something new he ends up incorporating ideas into his next projects.

I wondered a bit about that cloudy layer at first, but now I see it was a sort of Diffusion layer! Took a look at another chess board that didn't have that, and the difference is pretty big for the lighting effects. Impressive work!
This particular one would look amazing with a deep space background instead of acorns.
impecable design. As someone whop grew up around pine forests, i gotta say I love the pinecones around the edges with the dark green around them. fits the vibes of home for me, and the pieces came out so clean looking too. i thought the clear pieces would look lame but whe you pulled em out I realized how clean the glassy look is. nothing has ever made me want to get into wood working more than this. keep up the awesome work, cause im subbing and I wanna see more

Oh! Get yourself a nonslip pad to sand on, piece won’t slip around and won’t scratch 1 side while sanding the other.

Thank you. Yes, the colors are different, because there is pearl and colorless resin in the squares, and green and pearl resin on the outside. When mixed with LED colors, you see this effect.

I’m not sure if I understand how he got two different LED colors at the same time? Was it just how the epoxy reflected the light when it was pink/or light green?

Very nice piece.
Best recommendation when doing the edges of your sides like that is to have two scrap pieces of the same width on the outsides of your 4 main pieces. It will help prevent the orbital from rounding over your outter most pieces and throwing everything out of alignment. I also noticed you didn't use a blow torch or vacume chamber to extrcate the bubbles out of the epoxy and the bubbling was very apparent at different points. Also did you Oribtal sand a poly coat before you buffed it? Best way for Polycoats is to hand sand them with a block to prevent swirl marks. Also curious as to why you didn't show your setting of the second LED strip in the bottom for the two color effect.
I'm pretty sure that there is only 1 LED strip.
The 2nd colour comes from the green epoxy section, u can notice it better in the demo at the end.

I am in love with your work. I used to Love playing chess. When i was a kid i was lucky enough to get to travel to Italy, and my grandmother bought me a Green & White Alabaster Chess set while we were there. I spent so many hours in front of that chess set with my family. The stories and games will always be with me but sadly that board was smashed by someone and i haven't played in years (not because of that but it didn't help) I saw your video and That Green led kicked on and it took me right back to those days. I don't know when i can afford to buy one from you but I'd very much like to get one some day. It feels weird to say thank you but this random chess board video made my week. Thank you.

What would be insane is if you were able to make it so the colour would switch to red in check then white at checkmate ofc idk how because you can’t track the pieces without it looking odd as they are translucent 😅 great stuff either way.

That board is gorgeous and the skills involved are impressive. 2 things, however: First, those solid pieces are an OCD nightmare... gotta get 'em aligned. Secondly, extra credit will be awarded if the next board has pieces with wireless LEDs so that when they are on the board, the pieces glow. (Search youtube and adafruit for wireless leds, you'll see what I mean) - NEXT LEVEL!

While I respect your hard work but personally I don't understand why should it glow? I don't know Is it just me but it is glaring, especially blue lights. I would probably turn it off while playing this chess.... Now a chess board made out of stained glass(or tinted epoxy) or colourful marble or some other material... Now that I would definitely want! You can even fake marble effect with paint. Or maybe chess where tiles are decorated? If you really want glow, why not glow-in-the-dark material perhaps? I just don't understand the latest trend of LED lights everywhere. It is just just tacky and especially childish if it is like full on rainbow lights

your miters could be better if you make the angle a little more sharp than 90 degrees, when you put them together. keep space on the inside so the outsides won't have a gap

Nice work but the white squares create a psychologican element with the 3d way they look like they're lower and the white pawns with how
indiscernible they are, i wouldn't enjoy playing with a set like that, lol, but as a decoration it's great.
