    This is a Catholic hymn that I am intimately familiar with; my heart smiles whenever that song is played. I like this mellowed, slowed down version of the song. Greetings to my Mormon brothers and sisters from this Catholic!

      I’ve heard it in Catholic Churches but I believe the hymn actually has Quaker roots, so it reaches across many faiths.

      @@Shadowfax-1980 Neither Catholic nor Quaker in origin. Written by a Baptist in 1860.

      That's correct, it is a Baptist hymn, written by Robert Lowrey at the time of the Civil War who was trying to find something positive to uplift his parishoners who were weary of all the bad news of a lengthy war.

    "What though my joys and comforts die, the Lord my Savior liveth! What though the darkness gather 'round, songs in the night He giveth... since Christ is Lord o'er heaven and earth, how can I keep from singing?"

    A truly amazing arrangement of a glorious hymn. The men start with an almost lonely lament. The women answer with the same emotion. They join together in a tide of praise infinitely greater than either could do alone. Just the way it was meant to be.

    For me, there is an added element of what I can only call "the sacred" that comes from listening to this utterly beautiful piece of music while watching human beings engaged in making these sounds together.

    My life flows on in endless song;
    Above earth's lamentation,
    I hear the sweet , tho' far-off hymn
    That hails a new creation;
    Thro' all the tumult and the strife
    I hear the music ringing;
    It finds an echo in my soul-
    How can I keep from singing?
    What tho' my joys and comforts die?
    The Lord my Saviour liveth;
    What tho' the darkness gather round?
    Songs in the night he giveth.
    No storm can shake my inmost calm
    While to that refuge clinging;
    Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth,
    How can I keep from singing?
    I lift my eyes; the cloud grows thin;
    I see the blue above it;
    And day by day this pathway smooths,
    Since first I learned to love it,
    The peace of Christ makes fresh my heart,
    A fountain ever springing;
    All things are mine since I am his-
    How can I keep from singing?

    As a gay Quaker, this hits so hard for me. Might play this at my wedding once I find my other half.

    I'm not generally a fan of Mack Wilberg arrangements, but this is a very nice piece.
