Basically the way to write "America" in Japanese kanji is "亜米利加" however as time has gone on this has been simplified down to just 米, or they just use katakana "アメリカ". The article is basically asking why we use the second kanji and not the first, and the general sentiment among people is because they use 亜 for Asia as a whole.
(Also Australia is stockpiling toilet paper because of panic over the coronavirus.)

IIRC its because there were rumors circulating that because of the coronavirus the Chinese factories that make toilet paper would all get shut down and there wouldn't be any left after that. (Even though there are a bunch of countries that make toilet paper).
And while toilet paper is one of the big famous ones there's been plenty of people stocking up on masks, bottled water, hand sanitizer, gasoline, canned foods...

Adding to that sweden-norway search: Since Norway is so mountainous, you would expect them to excel at alpine skiing, not cross country. However, Sweden, a much flatter country, generally place higher in alpine skiing competitions and lower in cross country ones (even though we are bloody good at it)

For an explanation on the "why is America called 'beikoku'" search in Japan. So in Japanese American can be called アメリカ (amerika) or 米国 (beikoku). アメリカ is a loan word from the English word "America" and is way more commonly used today. 米国 is an older and more formal version that you will see in Government documents and more formal writing. The kanji for this is 米 "rice" and 国 "country" which is a little confusing since most people don't think of America as "rice country." Since it's not as commonly used but well known that it can be used I'm sure many Japanese people wonder why and/or when the older/more formal version was created and why it's used in formal/government related documents/settings.

The English Google searches of non English speaking countries aren't really representative, as most people Google in their mother tongue. I checked it for Germany, the searches are entirely different, for example, when you type in "why is America..." the fifth entry is "why is American beer so bad", so you know what those Germans really care about

I think countries with primary languages other than english is generaly going to have more "dumb" searches (concerning things they should know), considering that most people would use their own languages first and non native people therefore make a greater part of the searches.

If anyone actually wonders, the reason why the flag on uniforms are mirrored is because it's supposed to visualise the soldier marching forwards holding a flag. This would result in the flag being mirrored. It's very common for nations who have left-right asymmetrical flags. Germany however does not have a left-right asymmetrical flag, so even if it was to be mirrored it would look the same.

The more intelligent google searches from non-English speaking countries are because google searches there are usually not in English, so the ones that are tend to be from people that speak multiple languages (which probably correlates with being smarter).

I’m employed at American Eagle in the US and they actually are putting every employee on “temporary leave” and every store is shut down and being evaluated. They have to sort a lot out and all online orders are being delayed or refunded since items are sent out from stores. Asian American Eagle locations were the first to shut down and they had to fire a lot of people due to lack of profit because of the virus.

Canada was in English, but you should also have seen that Italian Google said "Italia" and not "Italy". But I guess "Deutschland" was much different from "Germany" so you at least noticed it.

Google shows results based on your location, yes (as this video shows). But it doesn't just depend on the country - I see autocomplete results from my city too. I typed the letters "pl" and the third thing was a place from my area, for example.
