Played at the last night of the Promenade Concerts in the UK every year! Performed with a full orchestra, but there is a very fine organ in the venue, the Royal Albert Hall. Anton Bruckner, Charles-Marie Widor, & Camille Saint-Saens have all played it. The original organ was built by Henry Willis & Sons in 1871. It has four manuals, 9,997 pipes and 147 stops.
How many times did I listen to this majestic piece, my three daughter’s different Graduations, from Kindergarden to University….. It will never get old. Played by such a capacity as Gert is, it makes all the difference.
Bravo! Bravo! Elgar would stand up and cheer. Don't know about Nederland, but here in the US every graduation, especially college and graduate school, medical school, etc., play this as a processional. Lots of flowing robes and all the professors donning the most amazing array of their own university's robes and hats, followed by the students. Lots of "Pomp and Circumstance." Beautifully done. Wonderful to see Marjolein handling the critical registrant job and also enjoying it all.

Oh wow! I can't explain but I'm smiling and crying at the same time. So powerful. So moving. Gert you seem to get right inside the music so that we feel every nuance of emotion intended. Loved watching the footwork too!!

How very appropriate in this the weekend that marks Queen Elizabeth II 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne 🇬🇧 Although the organ is not as powerful as Liverpool cathedral's. 👏👏👏
Nostalgia -- with a capital "N" !!! Here in the USA the middle portion is often used for commencement processionals, and the more bombastic end portion for recessionals (including mine over 60 years ago!). Thanks for capturing and portraying all of the pomp, circumstance, and energy of this wonderful piece on that magnificent instrument !!!

je bent echt een hele goeie organist gert van hoef. ben in mijn leven ook vaak met orgel bezig geweest , maar denk dat jij wel een stuk beter in orgel spel ben dan ik , jammer genoeg heb ik al een tijd geen orgel gespeelt/ beoefend. maar mooi man. mvg.

I grew up listening to this on 78 rpm records. And at my graduation in 1970 . I admire your talent very much. Our organist at our church taught many like you and started lessons at 9 years old her self . She was our organist for 31 years. No matter how many times I have listened to your rendition of this piece I get goose bumps and tears all at the same time, simply magnificent!
Thank you Gert! This work means so much to people born in England. And it is so gracious of you - a magnanimous Dutchman - to play it with such commitment, verve and splendour. It brought tears to my eyes, and will make many others weep to hear "Land of Hope and Glory" so gloriously played by one of the great organists of our time. Gert, I haven't been able to focus on any screens through watery Covid eyes for the last couple of weeks, so this is a wonderful gift as the fog clears. I well remember this recital, your best ever at the time. Glad you saved this one for later.

Thanks Terry. All good, and thankfully I’d already been triple vaxxed, but my doctor sent me to hospital as a precaution as I’m over 70 and the symptoms were lingering. Omicron might be mild but it can still pack a punch. My advice to all is get vaxxed.

Today marks ten years since my high school graduation. I myself can play this song on my own organ at home, which I’m currently sitting at. I only know movement two, but that’s the most familiar part of the song, used in high school graduation ceremonies across America.

Gert. May I suggest that in your listing of concerts and CD's you have produced you put English titels. Not everyone speaks Dutch, unfortunately, but there are many who speak English who might like to know the titles and locations of your works, of which there appear to be so many. Just a thought, Nice recital though the organ doesn't have the bass line to support the Pomp in this piece.

Interesting comparisons of Gert's playing superbly this same piece of music on different instruments: 2015 Hervormde kerk, Enter; 2017 Hooglandse kerk Leiden and Victoria Hall Hanley; 2018 here in Belgium, 2020 Ichthuskerk Urk. Always superb.
I thought Gert was going to ignite for a moment there. And Marjolein was close behind.
What would he do without Marj turning the pages. He would be lost without her. She is just great. As usual though, Gert is just the best.
