The mind boggles when I think of the sheer scale of planning you had to undertake for this fabulous layout!

Hi Barry - Glad to see we have an update. Wow the shed certainly has been transformed and how worrying that 2 years has gone so quickly.
Goes to show you that if you put time and effort into laying track you are well rewarded. Your rolling stock just glides over the pointwork, you would not even realise pointwork was there.
    Regards Chris

Hi Chris. Careful baseboard building and tracklaying is the real key. Not something to rush. The layout uses Peco Code 75 60" radius points wherever possible - they are really lovely units.

Hi Barry. Thanks for your kind comments. Good to have the chance to say hello at the show last month. We are up and running again Tuesday evenings if you fancy a dose of "trains" on a regular basis!!!

@@yarslowmodelrailway1 Thanks Barry but can’t commit to a regular club visit at the moment but maybe in the new year I might pop down.

Thanks Colin. I really must tidy up my wiring before the Digital boys start using me as an advert for DCC!!!

Hi Barry, As a new subscriber I have spent a very enjoyable couple of weeks working through all the Yarslow videos. I think your philosophy is great and I admire your work ethic - you have accomplished a huge amount over the last two years.
I am currently looking at designing a layout for an area of 25' by 11' (similar to Yarslow). I have arrived at similar conclusion to you with a looped 8 shaped mainline going twice around the room with a junction station and yard above the storage sidings with a branch looping up and down a central peninsula and terminating above the mainline on the far side of the room I am considering a short industrial branch from the junction the across the bottom of the room. I am looking at the same maximum train lengths of 8 coaches/25 wagons on the mainline and 4 or 5 coaches/15 wagons on the branch.
Have you done any testing of loco haulage on gradients with this sort of train length? I think I can get away with a 1 in 60 grade and minimum radius of 4' on the mainline and still have enough clearance over the storage roads. McKinley seems to indicate that this is practical.
I will pinch your Idea of storage cartridges for a quarry on the branch taking empties into the off scene quarry and swapping the cartridge for one with loads in the storage area - thanks for a neat solution to what had been an awkward problem in my planning.
How do you plan to operate the layout single handedly - to a sequence that represents a timetable or just to operate a portion of the layout - say the branch or Trinity Square while a couple of nonstop trains circle the mainline? I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Like you I will work single handed most of the time with occasional visits from the model railway club where I would accomodate 4 or 5 operators. Up main, Down main, Junction yard shunter, Branch and Quarry and industry shunter.
Cheers. Keep up the good work.
    Jonathan

HI Jonathon. Thanks for your kind comments. I am in the throes of putting a Bite Size video together on operation - how the Master Cab Control Panel works, timetables, etc so stay tuned! Very interested to hear about your layout. Re the cartridges - glad you found a solution that fits. Very little we do is "new" - its all borrowed from someone else and modified to suit our own tastes. Happy to share my "big layout" experiences (good and bad) - EM me if you want to chat.

That's a pretty impressive sight. Puts my 1st radius oval to shame 😂 just found your channel, I'm just thinking... A) how cool is that cabin b) how much wire was used in the making of this c) I hope there are tutorials 😂

Hi. To answer your points - a) dead cool b) about a mile and c) I don't really do tutorials because there are plenty of better modellers out there so I chat about WHY I do stuff rather than HOW. The shed is 28 feet x 13 feet so nice and big - and now (Mar 23) full of lovely trains!!!
