    I have the same tool. On page 8 of the instruction manual, under General Operating Instructions, it says "WARNING. Do not use sand for blasting." Further down, it states that compressor pressure should not exceed 90 psi. I had no problems, after reading the manual. That's what it's for.

    • @5thGenNativeTexan

      Not sure which manual you're looking at, but that's not what it says. The warning is specifically regarding using sand with silica, and it's NOT that the unit can't use sand, the warning is specifically about breathing silicosis and aluminum oxide.

    Thanks for this mod video and sizing on bits/holes. I know this is 2 1/2 years old, but for folks that are coming here later, it does indeed say not to use sand. However, I found a decent work around to get consistent media size from Home Depot sandbox sand. I first put the sand out on a tarp to dry in the sun - Then use a mesh strainer you can get from Walmart/Target and filter into a milk jug/soda bottle through a funnel. It takes out the largest pebbles and gives a generally consistent media without clogging.

I drilled a piece once like you did. Held the piece to be drilled in one hand while drilling with the other. The bit snapped and I drilled right through my thumb with the broken bit that was left in the drill. What a bloody mess .

    Holy Cow! Some hobbies should not be tried without researching the danger or hazards! When I saw you hold the metal with a bare hand and I was already concerned when you stated going to home depot for a bag of sand... If you accidentally pass that over your bare hand it can take off flesh. Sand is risky, even with a dust filter, when you take it off the dangerous dust is lingering in the air. Yes some sands are safer than others but why mess around, get some blast media.

Cut a stencil on my Cricut, stuck it on a glass I wanted to test on and it was fantastic. I live in SW Florida so humidity is a way of life here. It does work out of the box if you use the proper media. Home Depot sand is made for a child's sandbox. It does not have a consistent grit size. I've used glass bead & aluminum oxide with great success. Moisture will clump the media and clog the gun, you need a water separator right at the gun.

    I followed this recommendations and the blasting improved a lot, but still was not good for the task at hand. I was trying to remove old paint from a porch light and it failed miserably. My compressor does not hold 90 psi for more than a second or two, it drops to 60 very quickly, so that might be my problem and not the improved modified gun. Thank you.

    The most important factor in any media blasting is having the proper media. Home Depot sand is not made for sandblasting. It has tiny rocks, pebbles, and debris in the bag. You need either sand made for sandblasting, or you can filter your own sand through a screen to remove the larger particles that are clogging the valve and the tip on the gun.

    • @LatinDanceVideos
      @LatinDanceVideos 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      "silica dust is very hazardous to inhale."
      silica dust is really bad, it lingers in their air and doesn't settle, then becomes airborn. most states have banned it's use. it's worth the spend to go to a tool shop and buy the proper sandblasting media, plus get advice on the right material to use for your job.

    • @Ezekiel-OffRoad
      @Ezekiel-OffRoad 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LatinDanceVideos Blasting media is quite expensive especially if you don’t have a way to recover and recycle it I don’t agree with banning the use of silica sand just saying it’s dangerous or hazardous isn’t the best warning either they should put the definition of silicosis then people could make an educated decision to use a respirator or not

    Get a hood. Keep the media out of your face and hair.
    Also filter your media with a 5gallon bucket and window screen. You can figure out how. I used the bucket lid to hold the screen with about an 8 inch hole in it to hold the screen. I use play sand and filter (screen) it.
