    The rest of this patch was an absolute banger. Chain blades are honestly just terrible. As someone who has historically been generally positive about some of the most controversial things in the game, including the initial round of omnicell testing, it feels like the ball has been massively dropped with this one. In our first test of this a month ago, the devs received rather negative feedback from not only myself on many of the points of this refresh, but there was barely any progress made in terms of how they feel. And that heavy attack animation. [ I literally could have animated that myself. ]

    I want it to be clear, as I didn't make it quite so in the video itself:
    There are positives to the design of the rework. A reason to use more than one combo, a reason to use more than one special.
    But, my main negativity stems from:
    -Dev Laziness throughout the testing process/rushing out the final product - Pretty much nothing substantial changed since the very first testing stage
    -The design/bugs with the Heavy combo
    -Lack of any ways to meaningfully capitalize on your actually good dps tools. This will effect you most in Hesca, Trials, and the Early game (pre-reforge)
    -The hypocrisy. LLHL spam becomes either LLLHL spam (very easy with skullforge or endurance) or LLLLL spam to get your special fast. The reaper's dance Light attack spam/momentum blades playstyle, just became special spam on cruel riftstrike instead.

      I myself will be considering other games after they did the only weapon I used so dirty. I hope you find some other entertaining games out there to make content on, I do not blame you in the slightest

      I think that the chainblades mechanic was so confusing that not even PNL knew how to make it work as well as other weapons

    This is simply heartbreaking….it’s everything I feared when they put Chainblades rework on the roadmap.

      what i find stupid is how the heavy no longer has its range and is replaced by a chain pull that puts you in the center for taking damage but not only that but it feels less like chain blades and more like dual wielding daggers

    I recently came back to the game. Was a great experience. Tried sword, axe, hammer. No problem with them. But ultimately fell in love with chain blades. Was nice to bounce around dodging with some varying degree of success and hitting them with some slams. Found I was able to solo most if not all content with it too. Now, They go and ruin it for what feels like no reason at all. Shame, I was really starting to enjoy this game again.

      Update: Mrtails is correct. All if not most of his points are valid. Chain blades are a dead weapon for me now. Fun fact, the description for serrated blades hasn't changed in the slayers path. Still claims to on chance, cause critical strikes. Developers of this game are lazy and quite frankly (my opinion) incompetent. Great game, great idea. poorly executed. GG Phoenix labs.

      @@samuelgoforth1188 If you're this salty over one weapon out of six others, then maybe try something different and/or new. The game is not built around the chainblades- it is not the center of the game's existence. It's not dying- just weeding out the one-trick ponies that won't try to improvise.

      @@lolzism1 Btw, almost every weapon mainly utilizes one combo with an occasional second combo excluding sword and strikers. Hammer and Repeaters both have 1 "combo", and a most of the weapons have 1 amazing special followed by garbage as well as 1-2 mods useful out of the many options.

    Also, just realized they kinda dropped the "chain" part of chainblades by removing the longer range heavy attack that actually uses the chains. Besides the chainpull and spin your chains are almost unused.

      Chain pull, blade spin (1 attack in a 5-hit combo), and the dance attacks. That's literally the whole list. Before, there was a 3 hit combo using the chains, definitely weird losing that.
      I'm a new player and I don't hate the new chain blades as much as more experienced people, but they really feel ike they should be doing more to earn the "chain" in their name.

    As a monster hunter fan, and player returning to dauntless seeing the devs ignore community feedback makes me like the monster hunter devs more....
    The devs fixed the chain blades now how about them hitboxes

      @@Going1outof10 that's the thing monster hunter games have never been live service games and each game is incredibly different to play. Monster hunter 3 ultimate and TRI had underwater, 4u had mounting and massive monster fights, gen and gen u had basically anime super moves, in rise your spider man.....but in world basically just had "better visual"

      They probably wanted Monster Hunter players to return to Nintendo devices (The Switch) by releasing Rise on said device while leaving World, so if those who want more content have to buy a Switch to do so. Kind of a gateway drug for those who never got a Nintendo device and first played a Monster Hunter game through MHW on Gamepass or purchased it, now got hooked and maybe thought of getting a Switch.
      That's just a theory though...

    TBH, I woudln't really be that upset with them removing LLHL combo from Chainblades ASSUMING they added some extra combos that fit the weapon. Going off of the Sword Rework, I honestly thought they'd do something like Air Combos or more energetic gameplay mechanics (cause honestly, who wouldn't want to dart around hitting a behemoth from literally everywhere). UNFORTUNATELY, it looks they what they actually did was obliterate a lot of the energy that chainblades had for not much of a good reason. Something along the lines of a combo like this; LL(F)HHL which I was thinking would look something like two normal light attacks followed by jumping (so you're in the air now) then two air chain attacks followed by a light slam. TLDR; thought they'd make it cooler

    "We've been through most of the weapons in the game now, refreshing them to feel more fun. But we know that axe players were feeling left out.
    To make the axe a more fun and tactical weapon, we've made it so that you can only attack once every 3 minutes, making gameplay more interesting as you really have to choose just the right moment to use your attack. And I know what you're thinking, will your attack do more damage? Well here's our answer: barely.
    Oh, what's that? What about the specials?
    Oh yeah we made it so that you axe throw only does wound damage, about 300 per throw.
    Anyway have fun fighting the new behemoth we added that we failed to mention until now!"

      @@raphael2407 I love axe so I hope they don't nerf it into the ground, it's already not doing well on the leaderboards. All they need to do is rework the combos so you have a reason to use them instead of just using charge attack.

Since actually balancing them properly would take time, effort, skill, patience, foresight, basically all the words that have literally never been used to describe the Dauntless devs

    The Chain Blades being the most used weapons, I thought they would be more careful when reworking it.
    This weapon was also in a great spot, being the best weapon for casual players to pretty much clear every content, but not strong enough to compete for the very top spots in the only competitive mode Dauntless offers. I know some hardcore elitist will say that the weapon was doing way too good compared to how easy it was to use, but in a casual PvE game like Dauntless, it's not bad to let a part of ur playerbase just go bash behemoths for fun without thinking much.

    Apparently the devs only idea how to get players to use another cell, combo or build or whatever, is to make the existing thing trash or remove it altogether leaving us with the stuff no one used before and having to make something out of it. I really hate this approach. It‘s not that hard putting some thought into reworks and they turn out great (sword for example) but recently they performed quite poorly at this task.
    Imo a rework should incentivise us to use other combos instead of forcing it by removing the old one

    The twin suns thing pisses me of so much. I literally spoke to a dev in a Q&E about buffing twins suns and they respond with : Our data shows they are outperforming regular repeaters. And i was like what data there are literally videos on youtube comparing twin suns in the best possible environment and they are still 30s behind regular repeaters pre buff. Not to mention the regular bugs to the dodge/counter mechanic not working at all.
    do they even look at the community post or even their own content creators posts and videos. the answer was no they just look at data without realizing the damage was from a bug.

    As a day 1 CB main , I agree with TheMrTrails 100% on all the good and the bad in this video. Chain Blades have been turned from an evasive-and-versatile feeling weapon, to a clunky and less evasive weapon with no real purpose or utility. It all feels like it has been wrapped up with flimsy tape, and now truly feels like a one-button combo spam weapon. The feeling of speed is gone while retaining what used to be the only con of this weapon, pure damage and stagger damage.
    I can''t stand PL's decisions anymore, and the lack of real content, ie: more then one monster every 3 to 6 months, has made me heavily disdain this game's current state of affairs. Extremely similar to the 3 months I played Destiny 2.. Dauntless has nothing new and ,most importantly, substantial when it comes to offering and releasing content whatsoever. Repeat the same nightfall maps that have appeared since the launch of the game. Repeat trials and escalations for endgame. Take on GM Nightfalls and raids. Tackle HeRoIC Escalations and MORE trials of the same behemoths we mastered a million times over. Don't forget to keep doing this for snazzy new outfits and emotes. YaAAaYy, big fucking whoop. New insect monster pops out. BAM, dead in 3 minutes due to the builds I have from when I quit months ago due to burnout... at least Dauntless doesn't charge us to access new areas and fight locals, I guess.
    I'm just gonna use my secondary as a main until I complete my hunt pass, and make my new CB skins + platinum purchase count. Buyer's remorse is in full effect, and my patience and trust is expended harder then my burnout. So, Imma do what I am currently doing with Destiny 2 and see you all in 10 years when this game has some fucking content. Best of luck and all the love slayer community and Phoenix Labs.

    What Im seeing is something heavy and slow for a weapon that is meant to be light and evasive and since it doesnt scale with AS like you said it really wont feel bad, like sword's animations are really jumpy chainblade's animation on heavy feels the same.. basically, MAYBE we need a reanimation in the future for the heavies to make it feel and look like well... chainblades and not a heavy weapon

      Yeah, I was hopeful after reading the information they posted on the 30th and seeing the combo demos. It looked like the new HHH replaced LLHL in a good way. Looking at the demo it seemed pretty fast and added wound damage as a perk. Then I played and it is as slow as the old HHH but without the range. Just why?

      Have it make sens the slow animation 🤣, becus you cant do wonds if you just spin you chains around like the old heavy did you haft to but foce in to you attack to make sure that you do a deep wond. If you just spin yo wepon aroun lika a mad man it dosent to damige becus the sharp point of you wepon is not goin to hit every time and you cant wond becus the bleds just going to cut the skin not do a deep wond that effekt the enime.
      So in a sens this refres is more off a real life thing, becus a chin blad wold work like ti in real life you do light attack to do more slash damige and do more off a have and put foce in you attack to do a more deep cut

      I find it fine tbh, Sure Chainblades are Light weapons more suitable for quick and low attack, But Lets be honest Its the Animation for its HEAVY ATTACK, of course the animation is meant to look heavier than the Light attack

    Chainblade main here. Took a break from the game because of the many bugs and the need for weapon reworks, including chain blades. I was excited when i heard they did a rework, thought to myself "might be time to return". Nope. This is 2 steps back from how chainblades were previously, despite the few positives.

      I took a break from the game because I was too busy with university, and while there are other weapons I don't mind using I've been a chainblades main since I picked up the weapon, because it fits the way I like to play best - sacrificing damage for speed and a bit of midrange ability and dodge. Every other weapon feels slow to me. And now I'll need to either completely relearn the weapon and change my builds, or switch to another weapon. Either way I'll be starting from scratch.

    I've been a chain blades main since my first day in the game, after what they did to my babies, I might consider uninstalling, unless they fix this godawful abomination of a "rework"

    The biggest problems though
    it's that we don't have any actual combos now
    we just have LLLH(hold) L
    and the rest is just full light/full heavy/dash (which I wouldn't consider a combo tbh)
    I mean every other weapon has at least 2 combos ffs (excluding pewpews, cuz they're guns)

    Wow, this must have been SO hard to keep to yourself. I appreciate your unfiltered blast on this "upgrade", and I hope your input and others can be heard by the developers.
    EDIT: I finally got to play, and I'll just say that hundreds of hours of muscle memory will be hard to retrain. I'd much rather do LLHL than spamming L; and to be clear, that is the one combo that I used the least. The never ending heavy slam spin is still there (fix what is broken first please). Oh, and a brand new big bug I've never experienced: 90% of the screen turned black intermittently on the first 10-50 escalation I ran, and went completely black much more frequently on the second. Hopefully things will get ironed out soon. Back to the testing!

    I started the game on previous june and i fell in love with it first when i choose the chainblades(i tried all the weapons and i loved the chainblades the most)i masterd them and i learn the combos perks and i unlocked all the perks of chainblades on the note path and mods i spend like 2 months to farm the materials to reach the legendary (torgadoro,urska and more) when i reach it i was so happy and i much them all withe legendarys perks too.About 6 months of playing it i was bored and bored and was like played 1 escalation and then close it.When i decided to play the game again and farm more(now).I was playing an escalation and i was trying to do the spin blade(right,right,left,right)I was like wtf my game bugged I search the keybinds to see if i changed them by false and they all were correct i change the element to see if the update change the moves on different elements and nothing.I search it on the MrTrials and i saw it happen.I was very sad.I never change the blades with some else weapon.I decided to change my main weapon to something else and then i realise the time,the materials,the perks and points to farm.This was my only change to return to the game and the phoenix labs just throw it in the trash like its notning.Phoenix labs I don't have a word to say(I WILL MISS THE GAME AND THE CHAIN BLADES) ):

    I feel like they took the literal chain blade part out of the chain blades. This whole rework needs to give the weapon a whole ass new name. fuck, my favorite weapon, ruined.
    Edit: This rework is just dog shit really. As a chain blade main, they could have just made more combos that outdone or were better than LLHL. I hardly use LLLHL cause It just felt too slow for me. This might actually make me quit the game altogether. I had loved this game cause everything else was fine till not. I feel i'll hardly be able to play the game cause again, chain blades were my main weapon of choice, and I actually carried friends through the game cause of my dps XD
    I really hope they at least revert the chain blades rework due to all the feedback.

    this "rework" turned out exactly how I thouht. It totaly destroyed chainblades and made it as unfun as possible

    Thank God pulling now is a separate move and walking with spinning blades is nice, but dammit, why couldn't they just leave the movelist alone and just add wound to the regular heavy attack?! How am I supposed to clear trash mobs now that every attack is single target and has no range?
    Build diversity is about options, not restrictions. Let's say you have a light attack combo that deals break DMG and heavy that deals wound, plus 2 mods/specials that encourage using them. Would be enough to make at least 2 builds and playstyles viable. Add in a third combo that does something else and a mod/special to go along with it and there you go. There's always going to be a best DPS build and that will be the one with the stronger perks/mods/specials and that scales with attack speed, base DMG and crits

    welp, I'm uninstalling, CB was my go to weapon when I wanted to have fun and mindlessly play, they feel so sooo bad now.
    Hopefully PHL listens to their players for once, idk how they thought all these changes were good.

    i was thinking the whole time i was watching this that this would only help newer players cause you just have to mainly spam light attack, then you said it to and i was dying. I main chainblades and they ruined it for me fr. Which really sucks cause i love chainblade. I really hope they do some good on the next updates or atleast bring back LLHL combo. The timing to reapers dance dodge after using LLLH combo is off and its harder to keep Adrenaline builds constant. Its really aggravating.

    I find it interesting PHXL talk about just doing the same thing over and over again with the Chain Blades when the Hammer exists. That is a weapon that is built around a single combo and nothing else.

      However that one combo feels more fun than the one combo of chain blades.
      Same thing with axe, you usually only do one combo but feels more rewarding than the llhl attack of the chain blades

    I hope they adjust the heavy attack animation.. it has massiv endlag after each animation so you cant really dodge effectively.
    And its supposed to be „chain“-blades, not pickaxes.. give the weapon some reach while comboing lol

    I always wanted to reforge all the weapons and get all the reforge buff from the node
    and just keep leveling up my CB and feel great cuz its easy fun and makes u feel good.. it was was my dream to get some 100 reforges in CB and look cool feel like God..the feeling of being god is just what we wanted
    but then they remade the CB and i dont feel like playing at allll..... all these time i spent on the game just to become god level in CB is just dead now.. i would but the purpose of it is destroyed.. it won't be fun ..just pain.. u could have not touched CB ..sometimes its ok to not have things balanced.. a little chaos always feels good

    My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. They made the repetitive nature of CB worse. Now I am 100% going to use cruel rift strike and light attack only, since it is legit the best way I can see of using the CBs now. Sure the regular special's light attack could be used to reposition yourself when you pull off of a behemoth, but like...I can literally make myself invulnerable while using this special, so I guess it's good now or something. I'm not sure, though since I some times spent a lot of time while on the air, so I would have to use it myself to see if it really is just not worth it anymore to use the regular special, but oh well. For me, at least, the CBs are effectively ruined now and I will have to move over to use either warpike or strikers as my main weapon now. :(((

    So in my house all three of us play dauntless, I main sword but flex all because revvy taught me how to play long ago and my housemates play pike and CB. They're alot newer to the game and I try to coach them but pike still likes to "spin to win" and CB only did light attacks and rarely reapers dance to avoid not slam. I've shown CB about the stacks to slam damage but for a new player it was distracting and got them rolled a few times. The rework looks like it's going to help with a better visual for slam damage and easier combos for newer players. For trials players it's definitely a nerf to optimal CB but if I'm honest optimal was barely situational. Blade spin then slam could hardly be called a play style

    These are my opinions on the refresh:
    I don't really have much to say other than this basic summary: to me, it's enjoyable, but they aren't nearly as strong as they used to be. Though I am kind of satisfied with the big hits you can deal with reapers dance. I'm sorry I couldn't say much, but I couldn't think of anything. I'm just that stupid.
    Fun fact, this is my third edit.
    These are a few ideas I have:
    Firstly, I would like to see them incorporate blade spin as an alternative meter game move, while bladed edge could be used as an attack to use while your stamina regenerates. Secondly, I have no clue why they implemented the punishment for stalling with reaper's dance, so I suggest that they remove it. Lastly, please correct me if this seems imbalanced, one way they could bring viability to the light attack for reaper's dance is that every time you land a hit with it, it adds a charge to your heavy attack, with a cap of, let's say around 6 to 10. The more stacks you have, the more damage the heavy attack would deal. One more additional thing it's that they could lower the heavy attack's cost back down to one. These are just some ideas I wanted to post without actually watching the video. There might be some typos.

    I am playing this game not always paying full attention to DPS and such, but it's saddening that such knowledgeable partner as you who took the time to test, evaluate and give extensive feedback to the development team has been ignored. I hope this game stays around for a long time as I love playing this game, but when changes come that turn players off then I always worry about how long such a game will stay around.

    I wish they would release more content instead of constantly putting out remakes. The amount of customization options is surprisingly barren for a game that was released years ago. A lot of veteran players are returning to find their preferred playstyles changed drastically or nonexistent.

    honestly weapons in this game just feel lackluster. no combos over lapping, no unique animations, some weapons only using one combo, and not enough specials. it's hard to come back and grind the passes out when the weapons feel just so clunky and leave me wanting

    The biggest positive that NOBODY is mentioning (it's not actually a big positive and doesn't really fix much) is the combo interaction where blade spin leads into the 3rd light attack, not a new light combo. So when you go LLL(H)L you _don't_ have to go LLL(H)L-LLL(H)L to get 2 blade spins, you just go LLL(H)LL(H)L and you can extend any blade spin combo into (H)LLLL to get a reasionable bit of extra meter off the back of the combo.
    It really doesn't fix the problems, but I find it fun, and I'm a little surprised that nobody's mentioning it. And it relies on the enemy getting staggered, which, as you mentioned in the videom you can't really do for yourself with chain blades now.

    It would be cool if, when u pressed heavy attack, the chainblades entered a mode where all ur attacks become like the old heavy attacks. Ranged swings. Same attack speed, same animations, just ranged swings that deal a bit more damage on top of the base damage, similar to sword powered mode.

      It would begin to drain ur meter, and after ur meter is drained, it'll consume a pip. And then begin to drain until u turn it off, or all ur pips are consumed. It would be fun to manage meter and pips, juggling through regular mode and kratos mode, while consuming pips to use ur special

      Wound damage is fine. Normal mode would do a lot of wound damage. U wound the part, while generating pips. Then after its wounded and u have full pips. Go kratos mode, that just does a whole bunch of damage, and focus that wounded part. It fits the name CHAIN blades. We should be swinging them around like kratos. Fun. Balanced.

    The Blade spin combo was actually my go to combo when using CB. The light light heavy light was good only for gaining meter for the momentum, for me. Idk it seems promising. I can see this fitting into my play style especially with the Cruel Riftstrike. Gives me more diversity in gameplay

    I was so excited for the chain blades to become more complex, I used to main them because they were such a forgiving weapon. Now they feel really sluggish and the ability to walk whilst spinning your poy is a joke, you barely make a meter and you stop, it's hardly any chance to move in a game where a lot of behemoths have lunging attacks. You are now stuck with what feels more like a heavy weapon because you have to position perfectly before attacking and it doesn't have the damage of a heavy weapon. It sucks but they have become mastery fodder in my eyes, reforge rank 10 and move along. RIP chain blades

    Lets get things straight, the reason why chainblade mains were playing chainblades is their speed, fluidity, that feel of well timed q's and stacked slams overall felling like a badass ninja. But our lovely devs that dont even play the game decided to remove a combo to force us to play differently instead of not being lazy and adding new things to give us possiblites, they were bassicaly like "ok you seem to keep doing this little combo that you like the most so lets just remove that to force you to play chainblades like a sword you ninja wannabe". I prolly sound mad and I am mad because my favourite aspect of a game has just been removed forever, I spent 800 hours flying around behemoths to master their movesets and be able to q perfectly and now im forced to spam left click and wait for my "momentum" to go up to do a slam. It's just a game but I had a lot of fun during those 800 hours and the fact that I will most likely never experience that again makes me sad.

    At this point I’m starting to think they’re going down the same way Outriders did and its sad. I hate when devs sit there and only try to make the so plain out balanced other than giving players fun. I can see that a lot of CB mains are going to leave the game, players that were just now coming back or even think about coming back is never gonna happen, and most player will rely on other weapons. I feel bad for CB mains they really didn’t deserve this. Even though I’m a sword main I can still hardly see improvement towards this game.

    The chain blades were doing little to no sagger damage using them for staggering was like giving the behemoths a minor headache.

    Trevor, can you comment on whether Adrenaline is worthwhile with the CBs? On the surface, with LLLHL being non-functional once one gets down to zero stamina, and LLLLL not using stamina at all, Adrenaline should suck for damage now. But Toadyy had a pretty good CB trials run using +6 Adrenaline and Endurance. What's your take?

      It will be good against behemoths you can get on the ground easily. Koshai has interrupts and you're getting shock procs, very much worth it

    I do remember using the old chain blades on a Behemoth. Like they're easy to do but hard to master. When i got back to the game, i tried the Chain Blades and I gotta say.. THEY MESSED WITH THE NATURAL ORDER. But other than that I got used it. I just wish they give us the option to switch between Old and new combos with the weapons.

    The new chainblades aren't inherently bad. It just takes getting used to the new playtime. I loved CB before the rework and was very upset when I heard about the changes. But after playing with them and using a new playstyle, I think they might be better then they were before. The dps is lower and the survivability is worse, but the new capabilities with wounding make it better in many ways imo. Just try them for yourself. Asian robot made an amazing video detailing the new playstyle. Enjoy slaying 👍🏽

      The goals of the rework only worsened some of the problems. Before, there was only one meta combo. Now, there's only one meta playstyle (blade spin to win), which has the same one meta combo issue, just being a different combo, and the other two playstyles can't compete (wounding & riftstrike). And not even the meta playstyle can compete with the other weapons, which chain blades were previously near the top with the right conditions. Having an internal view of the situation, the devs were also very lazy about the release of this rework, for how high their ambitions for it were.
      These changes are not as detrimental to casual leveling, as they are to pre-reforge gameplay, heroic escalation, and trials play.
      Having blade spin being meta is refreshing, sure, but that doesn't mean the rework is good long term. The ideas of the rework were good, but the execution of it was terrible. There are several improvements that need to be made in several areas for the changes to be considered general improvements.

If the main issues are fixed CB, imo, will be better than they were before because of the wounding capabilities and, what I feel like, is a balance in damage over all the combos. These are just my thoughts. I am definitely not am expert and understand why many people find CB to be completely terrible now.

    So I just tried out my chain blades as a CB main. Man... that was boring as hell. The constant Light attack was a slow burn, blade spin is only ever good when they're staggered cuz I gotta end it early to dodge. And my goodness- does that meter charge up BURN- I miss using the leap special every 3 seconds (like my fingers arent even positioned on the dodge button anymore) and mygoodness is it painful to watch myself perform HHH-
    I just... can we not take it back? Ik they spent time on it but c'mon... if their concern is the new players I'll tell you what everything I fell in love with as a new player is just gone.

    This rework should have only consisted of the chain pull change and the cruel riftstrike change, if they only implemented those two changes to chainblades it would have been great, maybe adding some wound damage to your Right click/triangle button attacks

    I had stopped playing the game a couple months ago but not because i didn’t like it, just because I was starting to go for esports in rocket league. I was gonna start coming back to this game then they went and messed it up again, I think I’m gone for good until they change this.     I am mostly a new player (my higher ranked weapon being the chainblade at lvl 14 or 16, not reached 20 once yet on any weapon) and I still didn't test out the changes in game (my exam start tomorrow) but I'm pretty sad about what have been done to the weapin I enjoyed the most ;_; even tho it didn't feel that powerfull, the former heavy attacks were still quite fun unlike the new one which seems very very clancky... I also quite liked the spining attack but I guess it's now gone too :\ I'm not sure about the changes on the specials since I didn't test them out but well, it's already pretty sad as it is. I guess I'll main the punching weapon or the sword now '-'
