Self-Directed Learning Research Focus Area

Self-Directed Learning (SDL) is aimed at developing self-directed learners who can adapt to new situations, and are equipped with the necessary skills and abilities to take responsibility for their own learning for life. SDL involves new ways of teaching, learning and discovery which enable students to approach learning on an active and creative way which fosters lifelong learning. The North-West University is the only institution in South Africa with a Research Focus Area (RFA) focusing specifically on SDL research in order to advise on ways in which learners can be assisted to take more responsibility for their own learning.
