    I did the old, 1 gallon betta bowl + peace lily combo for 15 years & the fish lived between 2-4 years each. I only had one that didn't make it 3 months because he'd been struggling since I got him from the store. I interacted with my fish every other day or so in order that they didn't end up neglected. The peace lilies exploded with growth - no substrate except smooth stone & glass pebbles. They just love the fish water.
    The bettas would swim up in my hand & gently nibble & play around my fingers. They loved their flaring mirror too for exercise. I recently upgraded to a 9 gallon tank & the current guy (no experience in the bowl for him) just hangs around in a 1 gallon area anyway. /shrug He's got some snail & shrimp buddies hanging out in the rest of the tank that he doesn't bother. ^^

    Fact: A peace lily fully emerged and planted into the substrate will live and thrive, grow, pearl, and be an amazing filtration source for several months before wilting. Just replace the plant every few months if you don't want all that foliage growing out of the back and interfering with the light source

    • @plantlifeproject

      Sometimes trimming may be needed but I try to keep it to a minimum, only trimming roots that are actually in the way. This will not hurt the plants, just avoid heavy root pruning .

      It's not unusual for them to go through a transition time as they adapt to water. during which time the leaves may wilt, some may die off as well as some roots but you should start seeing new roots and leaves beginning to grow after a few weeks

    • @plantlifeproject
      @plantlifeproject  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      When roots “drown” it’s because of a lack of oxygen. When peace Lily is growing in the water, the roots can grow down into the substrate and still get the oxygen they need in the water. And will not grow into areas of substrate where no oxygen is available

      It can be helpful but not absolutely necessary. If the room temperature stays above 65F, it should be fine. I have heaters in some peace lily tanks but not in all and the plants are growing well in both.

      These are good growing conditions. You may consider experimenting with Peace lily in smaller jars, each one being in a different part of the building, maybe use fertilizer in one , different light levels, etc.
      Try to vary the conditions with each jar. Over time this may give you more information about what your plants need in your specific location.
