    I don't know what I watched to have you come into my recommendations. I have no fish tanks, and while I have house plants I have no researched anything about them. Yet, I still enjoyed your video and wrote down two tips to give to my son's GF!! So thank you for the information and happy growing!!

      my story with the aquarium began like this, first YT started showing me videos and I watched them with pleasure because it's all nice and it lasted for some time. A few months ago, I was driving my car past a dumpster in my neighborhood and there was a 60 liter tank, I didn't think much about it, I put it in the car. then I cleaned it thoroughly, found a place and started with water and plants that can have a root in the water and leaves on the outside, because I had such at home, monstera, peace lily etc. I had plants but they lacked light, so I started to combine old LED strips, different settings, installation methods, etc. All in all, I didn't even spend too much money, I try to buy in garden centers, online sales and of course DIY. My green TV :)

    Just even scaping with lava rock is extremely helpful to any tank as well as having it in the filter. It such a wide surface area and nice big porous holes. Its prefect home for bacteria.

    In my 20 long I used a long caddy I found somewhere in the bath dept. (similar to a kitchen sponge caddy that suctions to the sink). The one I found was about 2”x15”. I found smaller ones to use on the sides. I drilled holes for for water flow and used heavy duty suction hooks and they worked a treat. I filled with hydro balls topped with pebbles. My plant roots grew out the bottom holes and were very happy.

    If you really wanna save money, put that tank near a window , no filter , no heater no, no lighting, local fish in your area or fish that are hardy to temp, grab dirt and rocks and put it on the bottom. Hang the plants on the edge just sitting there(you can use a strip of tape it’ll still look good) no electricity needed, fish fertilize the plants and your good, just feed them every now and then
    [edit] lots and lots of shrimp and nerite snails for algea

    So i have a 70 gallon.
    No chemical filtration, use a double sided HOB filter with a course and fine filter(bought in bulk) and some bio rings, also with a sponge on the intake. Havnt done any water changes. Would it be smart to leave it as is or make one side filter material and the other side lava rock.

    • @felipesanchez1764
      @felipesanchez1764 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The set up is 3 layers coarse,fine then a small baggie of bio rings where the spinning bio wheels used to be at

    • @plantlifeproject
      @plantlifeproject  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think either way would be fine. If you want more debris filtered from the water, use the sponges, if you want more bio filtration, add the media. It’s hard to say if one way would work better than the other, maybe experiment with each and see if there’s a difference over time.

    so all these plants in the tanks wit the roots in the water do they not drown the plants? they thrive in the water like this? im interested in making a blackwater tank with the plants hanging off the back like you have

    • @plantlifeproject
      @plantlifeproject  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The roots stil have oxygen in the water so they can live and thrive. They adapt to the water and grow new roots. Of course not all plants can grow like this, but many can.
