That second return from Sock was nothing short of 150km/hr and to even think of returning that monster of a shot, so close to the base line, let alone pulling it off in the most badass manner is why Dimitrov got that fist bump from Sock in the end.
Sock remembers me Agassi, that return after opponent's service is perfect
Seeing Agassi smile was cool, because you could tell he wasn’t just impressed with the shot, but was also excited to see that next gen of players excel. Needless to say, I’m sure Andre is happy with how they turned out

Agassi won in Wimbledon playing on the baseline. THAT Wimbledon, not the current one which looks like clay.
He won on clay, which was even slower than now.
He won on hard courts, which were way faster than now.
All of this with those tiny and rigid rackets of the time, smaller balls, without any special treatments, recovery, phisios, training and all of those things that any pro player has now.
Monfils and Djokovic are the BEST at giving their opponents gestures of appreciation. True Gentlemen of the Sport.

This goes on for quite some time
Those two shots from Dimitrov (which were back to back!) are the stuff of legend. Particularly because the second one was off one of the fastest returns I've seen.
Exactly I would like to know at what speed sock returned that serve!
I was thinking the same thing! the clock actually goes off there in the background, if you look closely. I'm pretty sure from the timing and the number that it can't have been clocking the serve, either, because the clock was reading 177-- but what are the units? if that's kph I feel like that's too slow (only ~110mph), and if it's mph it must have been the second serve b/c that's a good 20 mph faster than the fastest recorded serve *ever*. seems believable to me, honestly-- that is the loudest *bang* I've ever heard from a tennis shot, and the server was nowhere *near* ready for that kind of heat, and 100% lucked it in with that behind the back shot haha.
@@MVPhurricane The fastest groundstrokes ever recorded are in the 120 mph range, so those have got to be kph readouts, probably for Dimitrov's serves (they were second serves). But if they were for Sock's returns, 110 mph is still blazing fast

Dimitrov has the touch no doubt, but applauds for Sock for letting the second one be a winner because he could've easily kept on going in this point. That's the highest form of respect
Probably won't happen, but I really hope Monfils wins a major. One of the most entertaining players on tour, and also just a nice guy. I spoke with him for a minute at the 2019 US Open, very humble and gracious dude.
I hope the same for gasquet and monfils. If only gasquet becomes confident and ditches that weird forehand for the 2005 forehand.
The way he was playing before corona cancelled everything made it look very possible
Monfils, Gasquet and Tsonga would probably have a few Grand Slams between the three of them if they had been born 10 years earlier and had mostly avoided Rafa, Roger, Novak and Andy

Funny how Djokovic has been on the receiving end of a lot of these shots but he ends up winning most of those matches anyway so it doesn't really matter.
He enjoys on court more than anyone I can think of. He appreciates opponent, Cheer fans and importantly Wins titles doing all this. one of the best to ever play any sport.

It just goes to show the level of shots needed to take points from Djokovic, but also shows that he appreciates great shots too!

It's not that he's been on the receiving end of most of these shots. Other players have had such shots hit against them as well, Djokovic applauds good shots always thus it is his reactions that are here.
One of my favorite things about Novak Djokovic is him applauding when an opponent makes great shot. Not only is he a fierce competitor but has the good sportsmanship to acknowledge excellence in others. And you'll note he is in more of these clips than anyone else. I was over joyed seeing Roger and Rafael doing it to. A real rarity indeed. Thanks for the clips.
I'm not a Djokovic fan but he does always give it up when his opponent hits a high-class shot.
yeah Djoko does it often, even in important match (grand chelem semi or final) when he is cornered in very tense moment, he's stil has great sportsmanship. amazing champion
He even did it in RG when he was losing 2-0 to Tsitsipas before turning the match. What a legend, others would prefer to eat their racket than applaud the opponent in that kind of moment.
@@zofilep3612 And then he went to the locker room for ten minutes, then came back, yelled at a ball girl, then at a line judge, then at the roof that was creating a shadow over the court, then at the ref for turning the lights of the stadium on, just an overall great guy really.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to be so honest but psychologically it's more about his character of wanting to be a core part of the fun, like he usually is a front person in acts, he enjoys that. You can see that in the way he applauded from young age. It's cool to applaud in any case!

What I love about tennis is that, whenever I'm depressed, I see these guys achieve the impossible and my hope is renewed.

I was once standing behind RF on a line at a stadium food stand when he was trying to buy a chocolate bar before one of his matches but his credit card kept getting rejected. So I told him I'll pay for it when, all of a sudden, he pulled his tennis racket out of his back pocket and applauded me with it. I felt so honored!
The last two are by far the best ones. Amazing!!

I think he means it when he applauds other opponents shots, but his “respect” when he says it, doesn’t feel genuine. He’s the best in the world right now and he knows it. I love Djokovic and Monfils on both sides of the court.
Τhis list is one of the reasons Nole is my all time favourite player. He applauses his opponent every given chance because that's the kind of person he is... Kind and respectful besides an out of this world tennis player...
Monfils is one of those players who really should have achieved a higher ranking. extraordinary talent.

You used to be able to beat Djokovic mentally. His improvement in that area is absolutely stunning. Now when he smiles and applauds a shot, he's thinking, "OK, so you want to play, huh?" When he reacts like that, it's about to get real.

Djokovic was one of the first players I notice doing it. It impressed me a lot. He was World number 3 at the time and still very young. But the maturity you have to have to acknowledge greatness being inflicted on you. Was for me, a sign he would achieve great things.
