    The 5010, 5020 and 6030's were the best tractors built from the late 60's and 70's Peroid!!!! Huge lugging Horsepower and such heavy, heavy front ends!!!! My family still has a 5010, the thing just won't quit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    yes that is such a beautiful sound I love the sound of Detroit power
    my grandfather had an oliver from the late 50s that had a 671 Detroit
    I still use it today and to my knowledge it has never yet been overhauled in the 50 years we have had it

    Man I'm a Ford Tractor fan but I don't care, this thing is awsome, I can see why He is wearing head phones. That constant noise level wouyld give you a head ache and put you to sleep. Love the sound of that power.

    We had a 318 conversion when I was a kid.On a still evening you could hear it 2 miles away with the straight pipes.Nice to hear one sing again!!

    the fucking video is rated 5 star because that deere would pull the ass off any zetor shit you throw at it. That is one of the best tractors ever made, with one of the best diesels ever made.

    @65JD5010 Back in those days the 5010, 5020, and 6030 were actually referred to as dogs even by Deere men. My neighbor had a 5020 that he blew the engine up on and he ripped the front axle right off of it once. My old 220 Allis I used to have would walk circles around it. That was back in the 70's.

  • @Shooter-rk2tf
    @Shooter-rk2tf 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    We had neighbors that had the 318 Detroit and the vibration from the engine was nasty. We repowered as 5020 with a 903 Cummins (320 hp) and pulled the doors off the 318 (8V71) Had more torque but the vibration was still a killer with it as well.

    • @dawsonmccain9371
      @dawsonmccain9371 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      had a 903 cummins and a v8 detroit. the v8 detroit would walk all over that 903

    • @Shooter-rk2tf
      @Shooter-rk2tf 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's fine, was just our experience We later stuck a 375hp Cat 1693TA in a 6030 that a guy dropped the engine in and we got cheap. Amazing engine and in the day, nothing EVER came close to touching it.
      Glad you had good luck with the 318.

    They say you couldn't listen to that all day. I was sad when your vid stopped. If I lived closer I'd come and plough you paddock for nothing just to get more of it. Lovely and crisp on the governor. But then, with that sort of power, is there any wonder? At least you know you won't wreck the rear end even with an 8/71. Sweet as!

      Not as bad as they would, if they lived directly from where my brother built up the air on his Freightliner, that had an 8v-92 Detroit. He used to piss me off at times with it. What is the real difference between this, and a Cummins or Cat with straight pipes on it?

  • @lingenfeltera
    @lingenfeltera 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    How big of a fuel tank do you have and how long does it take to burn through it? We had a 4620 and whenever we pulled with it, we couldn't fill it up fast enough!

    He could do something weird like putting some mufflers on it. Those Detroit 8V-71's with no turbos are really loud. I have one in my bus, but with turbo and a big turbo muffler

    It's not an 8V53, it;s an 8V71, and this baby has BALLS! It reminds me of a '73 GMC short-nosed tandem dump truck I drove whenI was just 17 that our neighbor had, hauling concrete (18 tons average a load) to the landfill, and this yahoo who had Cat tattooed on his underpants had a new (at the time) Peterbilt 357 with a hopped-up 4-and-a-quarter Cat he CALIMED made nearly 600 HP, and asked me why I wanted to drive "That chain-saw engine powered cave-tool" and I replied "because I can't stand 4-stroke diesels, and barely tolerate 4-stroke gas engines, as they all suck, and by the way, I also HATE with a PASSION anything Cat ever made, ever WILL make, especially their worthless 4-stroke diesels that fall apart--like your engine that has a ZINC casting as a timing gear cover--and they literally rot off the engines in a year, IF that hunk of 4-joke SHIT doesn't blow a head gasket or the bottom-end before that, is that a good enough answer?" He said "It's 8 degrees F. this morning, you have NO block heater on that antique, so have fun starting it! I made sure it was in neutral, stood alongside it, reached up and twisted the key and hit the starter button, and in Detroit fashion, she went rrrrrrrrrruuf! and was idling! NO stupid skipping and backfiring like a 4 stroke does, NO grey smoke like a 4 stroke does--it just started! That Cat had a block heater, thrned over for 65 seconds before it fired, skiped and popped, stalled 4 times, and nearly didn't start as it flooded out on the last start attempt, and took over 3 minutes before it really ran decent and wasn't smoking grey! Embarrassment number 1 for "Cat-boy"! We got loaded up, with pretty much the same weight on each truck and off we went. I let him go first, and I drove easy, to make him think it has no balls (tach never went above 1400) 'till we started up the long, nasty hill leading up to the dump, about a half mile long, and he hit it at 55, but started down shifting immediately as he started up, I kept the same gear. I stayed behind him 'till he really started working for it, then I pulled into the regular lane, out of the "slow truck lnane", kicked my little "318" DD in the ass, and started up-shifting and passed him at 45, topped the hill at 65! With NO black smoke as that Cat hunk of 4-stroke crap was doing profusely, and no having to top the hill at 25 in granny like he had to--this went on load after load, and I actually not only got to the dump some 8 minutes ahead of him, but after lunch I managed to do 2 loads to one of his! He used up about 3/4 of the fuel in both saddle tanks, same size as mine, in one 12 hour day, I used less than half! And everybody LOVED the sound of that little "318" and HATED the roar and the going thru the gears sound of the cat that I likened to "the sound of a seriously injured cow bloating repeatedly for help", which is the only analogy I could use to describe the awful sound of that Cat! We nick-named his truck the "injured cow" and mine the "buzzin' Cat killer" and this dude finally admitted than 2 stroke diesels are superior to 4 strokes! O--and 2 weeks later--guess what? lots of grey smoke, knocking and the unmistakeable smell of coolant--YEP--that damned Cat coundn't hold up to the extra boost, fuel, and heat from hot-rodding it, and blew a head gasket, grooved the block and cleeves betweem 3 and 4 cylinders, and cracked the head! Coolant got in the oil and seized the ceank at a center main as well! So much for "4 strokes are better!" All I had to do was maintain my oil level (and no it didn't use much at all!), check my other fluids, and fuel 'er up! I looked forward to every 12-hour day in bitter cold weather of pure V-8 Detroit "stack music" and the awesome driveability of these amazing engines! YEAH!!! Great memories!

    lots better than the 80-100 horse on before.. you could deff pull lots more if u could get it heavy enough.. the new big john deere row crops bearly push 315, but they got more lugging power

  • @SilverGleaner
    @SilverGleaner 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    kdowning08, the turbo actually made them pull. Without a turbo they were dogs and either with or without a turbo they had plenty of engine troubles. That's why back in the day a 4020 would bring as much or probably more at an auction. Roday it's collectors that drive the price and not it's usefulness.

    • @Shooter-rk2tf
      @Shooter-rk2tf 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Had several 318's and yes they died in the hills. And in really strong winds. They wound up fast, but a 350 Cummins would walk away from them all day long. We went to the1693 425 Cat TA series for over the road and the mountains. The 318's were great in the upper midwest as the guys could beat them to death and all they did was run better. 411 gears, 13 speed and 20 inch rubber back then too.

    Sounds more like a 71 than a 53. Deeper note and less revs. This one sounds no faster than 1500 revs if that. Besides, I doubt a regular 8v53 would put out 318hp without some substantial tweaking.

      Byron Cutshaw if that was a repower done in the 60s and 70s (which it probably was,) it’s worth quite a bit of money the way it is
